As a founding member of the United Nations, Belgium has always approached it as the effective tool for multilateralism in order to respond to the increasing number of challenges. It is a great privilege for us to serve our country and the international community along those lines. This we do with great dedication, conviction, honour and the help of our lovely colleagues. It is a great pleasure to take part in this conference and The Kingdom of Belgium really hopes that we all will find some solutions to critical issues, which we are facing today. Thank you. St. James's Park is surrounded by Buckingham Palace to the west, The Mall and St. James's Palace to the North, Horse Guards to the east, and Birdcage Walk to the south. Ghibellines. The Ghibellines were mostly supporters of the German emperor and at the time Dante was born, were relieved of their power. When this change took place, the Guelphs for whom Dante's family was associated took power. Although born into a Guelph family, Dante became more neutral later in life realizing that the church was corrupt, believing it should only be involved in spiritual affairs. At the turn of the century, Dante rose from city councilman to ambassador of Florence. His career ended in 1301 when the Black Guelph and their French allies seized control of the city. They took Dante's possessions and sentenced him to be permanently banished from Florence, threatening the death penalty upon him if he returned. Dante spent most of his time in exile writing new pieces of literature. Legend of Pocahontas Pocahontas is most famous for saving the life of John Smith, a leader among the English colonists. In 1607, Smith was captured by Powhatan warriors and held captive for four days. When two large rocks were brought in, the legend goes, Smith had a hunch his beheading was imminent. But Pocahontas begged Powhatan not to kill the Englishman and, being her father's favorite, the chief obeyed his daughter and spared Smith.
