The First Years of the School: Reval Gymnasium

The First Years of the School: Reval Gymnasium In the beginning the school was upheld by the city of Tallinn and it’s knighthood. The school was meant for the sons of the noblemen and citizens. There were 4 professors and 2 colleagues. Students studied reading, writing, maths, theology, music, Latin, Greek, Hebrew, law, poetry, speech, geography, history and philosophy. Older students studied in Latin. Music was very important. There were four classes: quarta, tertia, secunda and prima, prima being the last and quarta the lowest grade. The head of school was a rector. For the first 15 years the rector was Heinrich Vulpius whose Gymnasium Laws (show the picture) were used for more than a century. Comparison of Education in Britain and Estonia

Comparison of Education in Britain and Estonia When looking into the educational systems of Britain and Estonia, several differences appear. In this essay I am going to point out some of the most distinguish features in the education of both countries. Firstly, there are dissimilarities in the age at which children go to school. In Estonia the age is 7 whereas in Britain children start their educational journey already as young as 5 years old. Primary school lasts 6 years just like in Estonia but the pupils in Britain are 2 years younger when they finish primary school than the pupils in Estonia. However, students in Britain and Estonia finish secondary school at the same age because secondary school lasts 5 years in Britain instead of 3 like it is in Estonia. Altogether, compulsory school in Britain lasts 11 years which is 2 years more than in Estonia. Moreover, there are slight differences as for the compulsory ...

The family was extremely excited that day. My parents had taken me to the mandir the previous day and my bag was packed with great care. I was to go to School for the first time in my life.I was six years old and I still remember the day I first went to school. My aunt came to drop me to my classroom and helped me to get familiar with my teacher and class. I hated the thought of being away from home for so many hours. Tears rolled down my checks as I got off the house and held my aunt’s hand.My aunt could sense my fear and tried to cheer me up . I fet a little better as I saw many other boys and girls entering the class where I had to go.my aunt left me in the classroom and drove to the house. I felt my heart sink as I saw go but I soon began to feel better.the times passed quickly and I started making new friends so I began loving the school. She is leaving her mother and stepfather's home in Phoenix, Arizona to live with her father in Forks, Washington. She's apprehensive about moving in with her dad, Charlie, who is the town's sheriff. Up until now, they have only ever spent parts of summers together. Bella hasn't been to Forks in three years. Forks couldn't be more different than sunny, metropolitan Phoenix if it tried. The weather is cool, overcast, and clammy most days. My languages I love different languages. I mean, I really, really love different languages. I also believe and have been told that I pick them up rather easily. That might be true, although I did not pick any Greek up in Greece but that might have been because they spoke so damn fast that I could not tell if it was a word or an entire sentence. The first foreign language I learned was Russian. Considering I was ten when Estonia became a Republic, it makes sense. We began studying Russian in first grade, though it was simplified – "koška" instead of "kot", "medvešonok" instead of "medved", "saichik" etc. Did not make much sense and we mostly played some games in Russian (Tare-tareke etc). Learned as much playing outside, since we had Estonian-Russian kids around as well. Not that we played with them. It's sad to say but it was not a nice time to be a Russian kid. We were mean to them, and we...

The History of Flag Day

The History Of Flag Day The Fourth of July was traditionally celebrated as America's birthday, but the idea of an annual day specifically celebrating the Flag is believed to have first originated in 1885. BJ Cigrand, a schoolteacher, arranged for the pupils in the Fredonia, Wisconsin Public School, District 6, to observe June 14 (the 108th anniversary of the official adoption of The Stars and Stripes) as 'Flag Birthday'. In numerous magazines and newspaper articles and public addresses over the following years, Cigrand continued to enthusiastically advocate the observance of June 14 as 'Flag Birthday', or 'Flag Day'. On June 14, 1889, George Balch, a kindergarten teacher in New York City, planned appropriate ceremonies for the children of his school, and his idea of observing Flag Day was later adopted by the State Board of Education of New York. On June 14, 1891, the Betsy Ross House in Philadelphia held a Fla...

If I Were a Minister of Education

If I Were a Minister of Education In the last five years we have witnessed several changes in the education system. Although some people find it useful and needed, others find it tragic. What has changed and what would I do to make school a better place? Firstly, there are several things that has been changed in the last few years, such as financing vocational schools. Students of vocational schools get paid for good grades and in some schools even for attending school. Even dorms are paid for students. That is true, we have a chance of getting a little scholarship in high schools, if we graduate with a medal, but it is times and times harder to achieve. In fact government has started to close high schools because they think that there are too many of them. It looks like our country wants only graduates with vocational education, which I find really sad. If I were a minister of education I would do every...

In these moments i like to remember what Napoleon Hill once said: ,,If you can´t do great things, do small things in a great way." This musical was devoted to the 90th birthday of Georg Ots' Music school. Reet Toot has described her play as a ,,Musical history" in two surveys. Although everything in this play was really special, the most important thing was that all the actors were young people. Most of them are students in the birthday school. The play ,,Right from the tip" was played at the Estonian Puppet theater in February. The idea to make a musical out of the music school history came from one of the school's teatcher, Siim Aimla. He introduced his idea to the producer, Reet Toot. That's where the historical musical started. All the actors were really profeccional. It was a quit.e big suprise, because they were all very young. Like the huge stone statues of Easter Island and prehistoric cave paintings of Altamira and Lascaux, North American Indian rock art is surrounded by an atmosphere of mystery. Although examples of rock art exist at some 15000 sites in canyons, deserts, caves and river gorges. Nowadays, however, primitive rock art in the United States has become a new field of scientific study. Klaus F Wellmann wrote two books about rock art. He is a professor of medicine. Rock art represents the history of aboriginal Americans. In the most cases the art is an expression of ideas and way of life, ritual ceremonies, hunting, fighting. Ettekanne-business in estonia

Good morning ladies and gentlemen! Im going to talk about Business in Estonia. I`ve divided my talk into three parts. First Im going to give a short overview of the Estonian business. Second Im going to talk about studying business in Estonia and third Im going to talk about business in industrial sector. FIRST: Estonia is a relatively small country in the northern part of Europe. Estonia is strategically placed in the business corridor, between the Scandinavian countries (EU) and other eastern European countries, including Russia. Estonia has suffered from economic Chrisis as many ohter European countries and compared to ohter bigger countries like Spain and Greece, Estonia has managed to recover from the Chrisis quite well. The number of unemployed people has reduced, still many private companies have struggles due to the fact that the income of consumers has been low and the ability to consume products provided by the companies has...

Estonian and British Education System

Estonian and British Education System Estonian and British education system is not quite different. In Estonia, the education system is based on six levels which include the: kindergarten, primary school, basic school, secondary school and university or vocational school. In Britain, the education system is also based on six levels which include the: nursery school, infant school, junior school, secondary school, 6th form and university or college. What is similar for both systems is that the first level of education starts at age of three. While in Estonia this level is called Kindergarten, then in Britain it is called Nursery school. Differently from Estonian system, at age of five to seven, British children ´s go to Infant school. This is called year one, year two and year three and all these three...

Libraries

Libraries. We know a lot of things thanks to books, but we do not know exactly when and where they originated, and what should be considered the first book in the world. Ancient document, written on parchment, papyri and vellum can hardly be qualified as books the way we understand the word today. Centuries went before paper replaced parchment and papyri. In the 15 th century Johann Gutenberg invented a mechanical process of duplicating texts, which we today call book printing. The first book was printed between 1444 and 1446, so these years can be considered as the beginning years of book printing. His most important preserved printings are the 40 copies of the Bible. By the end of the 15 th century there were about 1000 print-shops in Europe already. The oldest Estonian book dates back to 1535. Libraries form a vital part of education. They make available-through books, f...

The Tudor Dynasty

THE TUDOR DYNASTY THE TUDOR DYNASTY The Tudor dynasty or House of Tudor was a European royal house of Welsh origin that ruled the Kingdom of England and its realms, including the Lordship of Ireland, later the Kingdom of Ireland. Its first monarch was Henry VII. Henry VII THE TUDOR DYNASTY The Tudors extended their power beyond modern England, achieving the full union of England and the Principality of Wales in 1542 and successfully asserting English authority over the Kingdom of Ireland. They also maintained the traditional claims to the Kingdom of France, but none of them tried to make substance of it, though Henry VIII fought wars with France to try to reclaim that title. After him, his daughter Mary I lost the claim on France forever with the Fall of Calais. ...

An Essay

An Essay There are many different education systems in the world. Basics are pretty much the same, but ofcourse depending of the culture, the differences and interests of educating people, are big. Children go to school at age five in Great Britain, which is too early in my opinion. Most children in Estonia start school at age seven, only some of them at age six. I think starting with school and competition, rivalry, witch always associates with schooling, too young, shortens the childhood and may affect negatively self-esteem, success and coping in the future. Children´s job is to play, it develops child the best, so I think anyone shouldn't forbit humans inherent needs. Children don´t have to become too fast to an adult. The high school in Great Britain starts at age eleven, but in Estonia at about age fifteen. Biggest difference is that in Great Britain they prepare young people to get a job ...

Childhood

My Children Deserve the Best Childhood Ever Hi! I am 35 years old. I live with my husband and we have two kids: Oliver and Merilin. Oliver is 10 years old and Merilin is 7 years old. Before getting these two kids, me and my husband used to live in a flat in the centre of the city. But when I get pregnant for the first time, we decided to move in a house in Nõmme. It's a beautiful place to live. My favourite, because I lived there when I was younger. It's also nice that we have a big backyard where our children can play and just spend time. Me and my husband can also spend good time there. We usually grill there or have parties with our friends. When Oliver and Merilin were young, about 2 years old, I never scream when they did something wrong because they're only children, they don't know anything about life and doing something right or wrong yet. When they grew up, went to school and sometimes got bad...
