The Garden Party Katherine Mansfield Character Analysis: Laura The character that won my favor is Laura, the protagonist of the story, who comes across as a fragile and insecure young woman. All at once she starts to perceive her role in this complex world. Moreover, she begins to wonder over the values and delusions, which are of great importance in life. Throughout the story it stands to reason that she is trying to establish her
Probleemid, mis on aegade jooksul olnud seotud ühiskondlike väärtushinnangutega, on inimestele enamasti teada, kuid pidevates täiuslikkuse otsingutes võivad mõned asjad jääda märkamatuks. Sageli on nendeks just igavest väärtust omavad aspektid. Peaaegu igas 19. või 20. sajandi suures romaanis võid leida ühiskondliku hierarhia probleemi. Jane Austeni romaan ,,Mansfield Park" räägib Fanny Price'ist, vaesest tütarlapsest, kelle plutokraatidest sugulased paluvad tal enda juurde elama tulla.

The Girl in Pink Tights (which was never filmed), The Girl in the Red Velvet Swing, and How to Be Very, Very Popular. Marilyn Monroe Productions Main article: Marilyn Monroe filmography Once in New York Monroe set up her own production company, Marilyn Monroe Productions, with fashion photographer Milton H. Greene. As The Seven Year Itch raced to the top of the box office in the summer of 1955, and with Fox starlets Jayne Mansfield and Sheree North failing to click with audiences, Zanuck admitted defeat and Monroe returned to Hollywood. A new contract was drawn up, giving Monroe approval of the director as well as the option to act in other studios' projects. The first film to be made under the contract and production company was Bus Stop, directed by Joshua Logan. She played Chérie,[29] a saloon bar singer who falls in love with a cowboy. Monroe deliberately appeared badly made-up and unglamorous
Maria Edgeworth, Mary Hays and Jane Austen portrayed the lack of intelligence and moral virtue of both men and women; dangers of romantic love and failures of traditional marriages. Jane Austen (1775–1817) – best known for Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice and Mansfield Park. Writes much about marriage and families; sisterhood. Women did not have the right to inherit; problems of traditional marriages. To her, the ideal marriage is based on rational love, mutual understanding and respect.

Instead of "I" the speaker may use: "one", "you"; which reveals him as a reserved person (e.g. "One never knows."). The same "you" and "one" create a close contact with the reader or listener. In colloquial speech the same effect is achieved by "man", "girl", "chap", "fellow". The speaker may use pronouns "he", "she" meaning himself as if viewing himself from the distance and this is a means of focusing more attention on the speaker (e.g. K. Mansfield: "I do not want to write; I want to live. What does she mean by that?" ). The archaic second personal pronoun "thou" ("thee thy thyself") and its forms may be used nowadays to create an elevated mood in poetry. In prose they may convey geographical or historical background (e.g. E. Hemingway rendered the speech of a Spanish person by using "thou"; or W. Scott in his historical novels used "thou" for ancient colouring).
and influential Romantic writers. By 1770 abolitionism was no longer confined to isolated literary individuals or radical Quakers who for decades had denounced the British slave trade and slavery itself. Thomas Chatterton expressed his disgust for slavery in his 1770 African Eclogues, poems that condemned the inhumanity of English slavers and stressed the innocence of Africans. Two years later, Lord Mansfield ruled that liberty was a hallmark of the British Constitution and that any slave brought to England would automatically be freed. In 1787 the Society for the Abolition of the Slave Trade was established with the express goal of gaining popular acceptance and political legislation for the abolition of the British slave trade, which by the end of the eighteenth century was responsible for supplying nearly 50,000 slaves annually to British, French, Spanish, and Portuguese
Populaarkultuur ka uurimise alla: kaubavormi tõttu on eesmgiks lai levik, ning on tihti ühiskonnas valitsevatele arusaamadele/ideoloogiatele lähemal, kergemini nähtavalt seotud kui kõrge kunst. Seepoolest huvitavam/viljakam uurimusaines kui eesmärgiks on mõista ühiskonda laiemalt, mitte ainult individuaalselt kunstiteost ennast. * üheks uurimise teemaks ongi nende kolme (subkult, popkult, kõrgkultuuri kaanon) vah. suhe ning suhe n-ö. valitseva ideoloogiaga (Patrick Fuery & Nick Mansfield (2000): Cultural Studies and Critical Theory. Oxford: Oxford UP, lk. 24-35).
Järgmiseks suri üks LaVey kõige pühendunum nõid Jayne Mansfield needuse tõttu, mille LaVey oli pannud Jayne'i tööandja, advokaat Sam Brody perekonnale erinevatel põhjuste, millest ma kirjutasin raamatus Saatana kättemaksja.

I lay on my stomach, crossing my ankles in the air, flipping through the different novels in the book, trying to decide which would occupy my mind the most thoroughly. My favorites were Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility. I'd read the first most recently, so I started into Sense and Sensibility, only to remember after I began three that the hero of the story happened to be named Edward. Angrily, I turned to Mansfield Park, but the hero of that piece was named Edmund, and that was just too close. Weren't there any other names available in the late eighteenth century? I snapped the book shut, annoyed, and rolled over onto my back. I pushed my sleeves up as high as they would go, and closed my eyes. I would think of nothing but the warmth on my skin, I told myself severely. The breeze was still light, but it blew tendrils of my hair around my face, and that tickled a bit. I pulled all my hair over my head,
