Titanic Lord Pirrie kutsus 1907. aastal enda juurde kohvi jooma White Star´i peadirektori Bruce Ismay. Sellega seoses pandi alus kolme suurlaeva ehitusele - Olympic, Titanic ja Gigantic. Peale Titanicu uppumist muudeti Giganticu nimi Britannicuks. Aastatel 1902 12 oli White Star teenindanud koguni 2 179 594 inimest, kellest hukkus vaid kaks. Ükski elling ega dokk polnud gigantsete sõsarlaevade jaoks piisavalt suur, kuid lord Pirrie ei lasknud end sellest heidutada, ning ta andis korralduse üks ellingutest ümber ehitada. Suurriikide sooviks oli teiste nõrgestamine ning oma mõju tugevdamine. Eriti tugevad vastuolud olid Inglismaa ning Saksamaa vahel. Titanic, selle uppumise põhjused ja tagajärjed Ehitus algas 31. märtsil 1909. aastal. Laev kuulus firmale White Star Line. Laev ehitati Harlandi ja Wolffi laevaehitustehases Belfastis, selle olid projekteerinud lord Pirrie, Thomas Andrews ja Alexander Carlisle. Laeval oli 29 aurukatelt, mis tagasid kiiruse 43 km/h. Titanic oli 269 meetrit pikk ja 28 meetrit kõrge ning kaalus 46 328 tonni. Laev mahutas 3547 inimest. Oma aja kohta oli Titanic väga luksuslik. Laeval oli võimla, bassein, türgi saun, raamatukogu ja seinatenniseväljak. Laevas oli kokku 4 lifti, neist kolm esimese klassi ning üks teise klassi reisjatele. Titanicu esmareis algas kolmapäeval, 10. aprillil 1912. Kapten oli Edward John Smith. Algas Southamptonist Inglismaal ning pidi lõppema New Yorkis. Esimene reis jäi kahjuks ka viimaseks.
