Sports. Sports has a very old history. The ancient Olympic Games were the first big sports competitions. The history of the Olympic Games is linked with many myths referred to in ancient sources, but in the historic years their founder is said to be Oxylos whose descendant Ifitos later rejuvenated the Games. According to the tradition, the Olympic Games began in 776 B.C. when Ifitos made a treaty with Lycourgos the king and famous legislator of Sparta and Cleisthenes the king of Pissa. interests of students. But certainly the most numerous is the Scout Association, founded in 1908 for boys and in 1910 for girls by Lord Baden-Powel. The Scout movement is to encourage a sense of adventure and of responsibility for others among young people. The programme of training is planned to develop intelligence and practical skills, to promote health and a sense of service. Scout training is complementary to the ordinary education. Scouts train in mapping, signalling, first aid and all the skills that arise from camping and similar outdoor activities. British scouts take part in international scout meetings, which are held approximately every four years. The membership in this or that youth organization is not compulsory in Great Britain. But everyone can find the activity he likes most. Climate in Great Britain The British Isles which are surrounded by the ocean have an insular climate.

varied. Theatre The British have a tradition of theatre. Long, long time ago the culture of theatre was introduced from Europe to the British by the Romans. Many auditoriums were constructed across the country. The most famous British playwright is obviously William Shakespeare. He lived from 1564 to 1616. During that time he wrote about 40 plays, which are still played and used in today's theatre. His plays are performed more often than those of any other playwright. The first professional woman playwright was Aphra Behn. Nowadays there are not so many world famous dramatists in England but the memory of William Shakespeare and many others has preserved until today. Important modern playwrights include Alan Ayckbourn, John Osborne, Harold Pinter, Tom Stoppard, and Arnold Wesker. Music Many British music composers have made major contributions to world's music, and are known internationally. They also have many orchestras including BBC Symphony

Australia Topic

First people in Australia were the ancestors of the current Aborigenes, who arrived from present-day Southeast Asia over 40,000 years ago. Most of these people were hunter-gatherers, with their own oral culture and spiritual values. They had a great respect of the land and a belief in the Dreamtime. As the population grew and new areas were explored, five largely self-governing Crown Colonies were established over the course of the 19th century. On the 1 January 1901, the colonies became states linked by one federal government the Commonwealth of Australia. Settlers came from Britain and Ireland, and the people of Australia are still mainly of British or Irish origin, with a culture and outlook similar to that of the United Kingdom and the United States. After World War II , Australia encouraged mass immigration from Europe

History of Football

History of Football Forerunners of football The creation of football as we understand it today is geographically confined to British shores, but there is extensive evidence of ancient games with the same basic principles as the modern day incarnation. The first of these was identified as part of Shang Dynasty China in the 5th century BC, the game's objective being to kick a leather ball through a hole in a piece of cloth which between two 30 foot poles. The Tsu'Chu military exercise in 3rd century China was also an interesting elaboration on this theme; the premise once again being to kick a leather ball through a 30-40 centimetre opening. As the Tsu'Chu exercise lacked the central team element of today's football, attention has also been given to the Greek and Roman games of episkyros and Harpastum respectively

off drugs, physical education can also increase learning by getting the blood flowing and increasing oxygen levels, which promote concentration. Sports and PE help children build self esteem and help them learn important lessons in teamwork. Physical education is extremely important and should be protected in schools, despite budget cuts. Children who take PE classes at school may also be able to use those classes as a springboard to become interested in joining a team sport. Numerous studies have shown that children who participate in a team sport are less likely to become involved in drugs. Sports increases the awareness of health and the need to take care of the body. Sports also give kids a positive outlet for frustrations and energy, a place to make friends who are positive influences, and a place to be a leader so kids are less likely to succumb to peer pressure. Only about 1/3 of all Estonian children have regular physical exercises outside the school

The first Europeans to sight the Australian continent were the Dutch in 1606. They called what they had found New Holland, but made no attempt at settlement. Libraries. We know a lot of things thanks to books, but we do not know exactly when and where they originated, and what should be considered the first book in the world. Ancient document, written on parchment, papyri and vellum can hardly be qualified as books the way we understand the word today. Centuries went before paper replaced parchment and papyri. In the 15 th century Johann Gutenberg invented a mechanical process of duplicating texts, which we today call book printing. The first book was printed between 1444 and 1446, so these years can be considered as the beginning years of book printing. His most

Technology has dramatically changed leisure and hobbies

It is like that because the boundaries between work and play are blurred. Computing and communications technologies are destroying the idea of privacy and leisure. Nowadays some youngsters can say that their hobby is playing computer games or reading iBooks. Since computer came along teenager would rather spend their time on the computer or playstation than spending time outside. As time has changed, hobbies have changed, for example playing virtual tennis in Wii or watching sports from TV is considered as normal workout. Although photography is an old hobby, modern technology has changed the whole idea of it. In addition because of modern breakthrough blogging as a hobbie is also possible. It is actually writing but you can write anything you want and publish it to many blogging sites. A good writing skill may lead to fame for a blogger and become a major earning source. His actions almost ended with him being guillotined but fortunately he was only sentenced a time in prison. Thereupon, with the rise of Napoleon, David was released from the prison and became the Emperors new personal painter. (Graham-Dixon, 2008, p.268) With regard to the French artists in general, in the 18th century they were dependent on the Academy and therefore very restricted by formalities. King Louis XIV had forced painters to be extremely classical in their style and keep the paintings as clear and formal as possible. (Friedlaender, 1952, p.5) By the second half of the century political changes allowed art to be freer and therefore classicism started to bear a rather political note. Political art, various pamphlets, literature and the Enlightenment laid the foundations of the soon coming French

Lacrosse Lehesalu

Lehesalu Andres AT112 Lacrosse Lacrosse Lacrosse is a team sport of Native American origin played using a small rubber ball and a long-handled stick called a crosse or lacrosse stick, mainly played in the United States and Canada. It is a contact sport which requires padding such as shoulder pads, gloves, helmets, elbow pads, and sometimes even rib guards History Lacrosse, a relatively popular team sport in the Americas, may have developed as early as AD 1100. By the seventeenth century it was well- established and had been documented by Jesuit priests, although the game has undergone many modifications since that time. In the traditional aboriginal Canadian version, each team consisted of about 100 to 1,000 men on a field that stretched from about 500 meters to 3 kilometers long. These lacrosse games lasted from sunup to sundown for two to three days straight
