Libraries

School libraries are definitely very good places to study for a test before the lesson because it is quiet there and one can use books as a helping hand. Our school library is very nice in my opinion. It is also good compared to other school libraries in our country, even one of the best. It has many good books and it's good to spend time there, laying on a couch and reading a magazine. There are about 16000 books there and you can use them there or take them home with you. If you want to borrow a book, you must take it to the librarian and she will write up your name to the database, the name of the book and the date of borrowing. Elementary school pupils can take book home for two weeks to one month. High school pupils can borrow the books for one month but they can prolong the time. If you lose your book you have to compensate for the loss. You can either buy

Merde Actually

"Merde Actually" has one main character whose name is Paul West, but there are also many other significant characters, that come from the previous book "A Year in the Merde". I can say that it would be better to read the first book of this series first, other wise some jokes and thoughts might stay incomprehensible. This novel starts with a description of how and where Paul West is going with his girlfriend Florence. As known, in France, the summer holidays are quite long for working class; therefore a lot can be done. Anyway, Paul and Florence start their holiday by going to stay in Florence's mother's country cottage, which is in Corrèze, almost exactly in the centre of France. Their journey to there is not quite without interruptions. In France, people do not really care about road regulations and they do not recognise the rule of the right hand. Anyway, they have to pass a roundabout and of course get into a car accident, where they are not to blame

religion. American Enlightenment a gradual but powerful awakening that established the ideals of democracy, liberty, and religious tolerance in the people of America. If there were just one development that directly caused the American Revolution and uplifted the intellectual culture of the continent while it was only a British colony, it would be the American Enlightenment. Broadly, the Enlightenment was an intellectual movement that changed the fundamental perspective of the masses, urging them to foster skepticism and apply scientific principles in matters of religion and morality. Its chief values were: Liberty, Democracy, Republicanism, Religious Tolerance. The movement gained momentum with the publication of landmark texts like Thomas Paine's The Age of Reason, and the Jefferson Bible, but the most influential thinker was undoubtedly John Locke, whose ideas spread to the colonies and across Europe

Pilgrim. The weakness of the book was that it was a little too easy to read. Usually I notice the hidden message but I did not found it this time. Some places were also a little boring to read when the author was describing places too long. But in the end I was truly surprised after reading the book because as I don't like horses a lot I just thought that it is a stupid book about a horse. But it was not bad at all. Actually it was quite interesting and I am thinking about watching the movie also. But still it was not so good that I would like to read it over and over like some books. But when people are interested in fiction book it is a great book to read.

gradual deformation of his soul. One of the themes in this book was probably Basil's love to Dorian. He told Harry that he can't be happy without seeing Dorian and later on confessed that he also worshipped Dorian. Beside this, the purpose of art is largely discussed about. The action takes place in the late 19th century in England, London. A lot of action took place at Dorian's and Basil's home. The story is mostly told from Dorian's point of view by a third person, but there was a part where it seemed like Wilde himself was retelling the story. The tone of the book is shocking and immoral and it made the overall mood of the story a little bit revolting and dark. The main charachter in this book is of course Dorian Gray. The mysterious affair at styles

In her first novel, The Mysterious Affair at Styles(1920), she created the now-famous Belgian detective Hercule Poirot, the most popular sleuth in fiction since Sherlock Holmes. Poirot and Marple have also been portrayed in the many films, radio programmes and stage plays based on her books. It is Christie's first published novel, and introduces Hercule Poirot, Inspector Japp and Lieutenant Hastings (later, Captain) The story is told in first person by Hastings, and features many of the elements that, thanks to Christie, have become icons of the Golden Age of Detective Fiction. It is set in a large, isolated country manor. There are a half-dozen suspects, most of whom are hiding facts about themselves. The book includes maps of the house, the murder scene, and a drawing of a fragment of a will. The Mysterious Affair at Styles was adapted as a 103-minute drama and transmitted on ITV in

Eros, built by the buggers, is not much better: the low ceilings, narrow passages, downward-sloping floor and lower gravity. The focus of activity here is in the simulation rooms, where, it turns out, Ender is actually commanding the real fleets. When he leaves Eros, it is not for Earth, but for the first human colony, on a former bugger world, which will become known as Ender's World. While looking for a location for another group of colonists, Ender discovers a landscape mimicking that in the fantasy game he played at Battle School. Meena idolizes Anita for her looks and free spirit, and in many ways wants to be very much like her, but the reality of her life keeps putting Meena back in her place, a place she desperately seeks a way out of. As the book progresses, Meena seems to fit in quite well with the other children and the family are certainly accepted, admired even, by the community. This all begins to fall apart though as ignorance and racism clash as Meena encounters first hand how hurtful racism and ignorance can be and she struggles to understand the relationships between people and their ideas. accelerate existing processes. For the "message" of any medium or technology is the change of scale or pace or pattern that it introduces into human affairs. The railway did not introduce movement or transportation or wheel or road into human society, but it accelerated and enlarged the scale of previous human functions, creating totally new kinds of cities and new kinds of work and leisure. This happened whether the railway functioned in a tropical or a northern environment, and is quite independent of the freight or content of the railway medium. The airplane, on the other hand, by accelerating the rate of transportation, tends to dissolve the railway form of city, politics, and association, quite independently of what the airplane is used for. Let us return to the electric light. Whether the light is being used for brain surgery or night baseball is a matter of indifference. It could be argued that these activities are in some way the

The Death of the Author

Probably this has always been the case: once an action is recounted, for intransitive ends, and no longer in order to act directly upon reality — that is, finally external to any function but the very exercise of the symbol — this disjunction occurs, the voice loses its origin, the author enters his own death, writing begins. Nevertheless, the feeling about this phenomenon has been variable; in primitive societies, narrative is never undertaken by a person, but by a mediator, shaman or speaker, whose “perfor- mance” may be admired (that is, his mastery of the narrative code), but not his “ge- nius” The author is a modern figure, produced no doubt by our society insofar as, at the end of the middle ages, with English empiricism, French rationalism and the per- sonal faith of the Reformation, it discovered the prestige of the individual, or, to put it

Veslovsky immediately goes to stay with Anna and Vronsky, whose estate is close by. Dolly also pays a short visit to Anna at Vronsky's estate. The difference between the Levins' aristocratic but simple home life and Vronsky's overtly luxurious and lavish country home strikes Dolly, who is unable to keep pace with Anna's fashionable dresses or Vronsky's extravagant spending on the hospital he is building. However, all is not quite well with Anna and Vronsky. Dolly is also struck by Anna's anxious behaviour and new habit of screwing up her eyes when she alludes to her difficult position. When Veslovsky flirts openly with Anna, she plays along with him even though she clearly feels uncomfortable. Vronsky makes an emotional request to Dolly, asking her to convince Anna to divorce her husband so that the two might marry and live normally. Dolly broaches the subject with Anna, who appears not to be convinced.

Also, he often drifts away from the topic on hand and starts to speak about what is on his mind at the moment. This often irritates many of the other characters (Quote 3). He is absolutely possessed with his garden and the farm animals and products that might win him prizes. Because of that, he spends much time with them and worries about them. This is probably because he still has the old nobility manners and thus tries to spend his free time this way. Many of his ancestors took part in these contests and many of them won there. So, he does not want to be worse than his ancestors were and uses a lot of time and care on these things. His main obsessions are the Empress of Blandings and the great pumpkin. (Quotes 3,4,10). Early Life Rudyard Kipling was born Joseph Rudyard Kipling on 30 December 1865 in Bombay, in British India. Some of Kipling's earliest and fondest memories are of his and sister Alice's trips to the bustling fruit market with their ayah or nanny, or her telling them Indian nursery rhymes and stories before their nap in the tropical afternoon heat. His father's art studio provided many creative outlets with clay and paints. Often the family took evening walks along the Bombay Esplanade beside the Arabian Sea, the dhows bobbing on the glittering waters. “we are reading Larkin”? The main purpose of the volume may be discussing and assessing Larkin’s poetry, but there are at least as many references to his letters (mainly published in SL) and to his life as to the poems themselves. If we think that Larkin is known as a legend we shouldn’t be surprised about the importance his life takes as a part of his work. His work, balancing on the borderline between “Life” and “Art”, will probably always is interesting not only for critics, but also for a wider reading public. There is every chance that this interest will be further increased by the publication of Larkin’s letters to Monica Jones in 2010. The private letters draw one’s attention not merely to the poet’s life, but also to the romantic aspect of his personality: the author who first builds up his life, then projects it into poetry. Although I will keep references to Larkin’s life in this study to a minimum, I am

Furthermore, I really like reading. Sometimes I think that I read too much because I often mix fiction up with reality and in some cases it does not do me any good. As novels have such a great influence on me, I often misunderstand people in reality. Also, I quite often jump into conclusions.
