The history of movies starts in early 1900s. American inventor Thomas Edison, began making short motion pictures at the turn of the century. In 1903, a movie called "The Great Train Robbery" was the first one to tell the whole story. Movies were silent at this time and orchestras played music in theathers, so movies would have sound. The Jazz Singer in 1927 was the first movie to have sound. A year later, 1928, a funny animation movie "Steamboat willie" was produced. 1920-s were also the rise of hollywood. The majority of film making took place in the hollywood area. Hollywood was the initial birth place of the studios. Studios there were separated into 3 different groups. The biggest one was the Big Five. It included studios like ee WB. 20th Century Fox and Paramount.

songs of her time. "I'm very shy, and I shy away from people," Ella once said. "But the moment I hit the stage, it's a different feeling. I get nerve from somewhere; maybe it's because it's something I love to do." More than anything, it is this love of performing that won her the hearts of millions throughout the world. By the 1970s, she was performing with a trio headed by pianist Tommy Flanagan, and regularly with dozens of different symphony orchestras. Though her voice was not what it had been, Fitzgerald's enthusiasm and charisma continued to excite crowds well into the 1980s. After a successful appearance in the United Kingdom in 1990, she retired due to ailing health. Two years later President Ronald Reagan awarded her the National Medal of Honor. Suffering continued health problems, Fitzgerald spent the last few years of her life in her Beverly Hills home. On June 15, 1996 she died at the age of seventyeight

The solidarity that the continued performance of the song festivals fostered, along with the logistics of moving large numbers of people around the country, served the Estonians well in their enormous demonstration for freedom in 1989, the Baltic Chain. ideas of the Enlightenment and idealised `ancient non-stratified' society. Patriotic poems and songs extolled the beauty of Estonian nature and expressed ardent love for the native soil. Inspired by the folklore of the neighbouring Finns, a `picture of the ancient Estonian world' was constructed. Historical fiction sang high praises of the times of past freedom, and an image of 700 hundred years of slavery was implanted in the nation's memory. Estonian societies, choirs and orchestras were established in parishes. The money-raising operation which began in Viljandimaa turned into an all-Estonian mass organisation with its own chief committee which arranged various cultural events and agitation activities. This collection was intended for the setting up of the first Estonian-language higher popular school (called Estonian Alexander School in honour of Alexander I). The Society of Estonian Literati
light is shed also on the spread of this type of music in the northern region of the Baltic Sea. This makes it possible, on the one hand, to get an overview of the influence of jazz on local dance music and, on the other hand, of the possible factors influencing the development of Estonian jazz. The study has revealed that jazz reached Estonia as dance music in the mid-1920s. Our musicians had no direct models or teachers when jazz reached Estonia; even the institution of dance orchestras was missing at that time. Despite all this, very soon there appeared a number of orchestras playing jazz-like music. This work describes the appearance of jazz in Estonia and its development until 1945, including thus all the information known and revealed so far during this study as well as its analysis concerning the bands and orchestras active in Estonia and defining themselves as jazz players during this period. Main attention has been focused on the creation and
