The Most Influential Figures in British History

The Most Influential Figures in British History There are many important historical figures, who have helped shape Britain into what it is today. In my opinion Elizabeth I, Queen Victoria and Winston Churchill are the ones who stand out and have had the biggest impact on British history. Firstly, Elizabeth I made a great impression on British history as she kept England from major wars during her reign, the kingdom expanded and she supported culture. The rule of Elizabeth I can be called a peaceful time as England did not enter any huge conflicts. She

An event in my childhood

My childhood story Whenever I think about my childhood, one story comes to my mind. A story I am proud of. It’s about how I helped my one year older brother when he got stung by a bee. It’s not just an ordinary story because my brother, back then, was allergic to bees. And because of that I may have saved his life. It all began on a sunny summer day at my grandfather’s country home. We had a dog back then and he had his own fenced garden with a doghouse in it. Me and my brother were just fooling around outside doing funny stuff. At some point he decided to go let the dog out

Strategies of creating a dominant party – the case of UR

towards a, what is called "dominant party system", in this paper, I will examine the main strategies, by witch United Russia has gained and perpetuated its dominance. After looking at the main features of a dominant party, I will focus on the reforms in Russia's electoral law, which supported the nascence of a dominant party. In the second part of the work, I will concentrate on the political strategies, which have helped the party to maintain its hold on power. Defining the dominant party The concept of dominant-party system, or one-party dominant system, refers to "a category of parties/political organizations that have successively won election victories and whose future defeat cannot be envisaged or is unlikely for the foreseeable future" (Suttner 2009: 277). Dominant party regimes are often seen as the contemporary forms of authoritarian rule. For

Dear social worker

Dear social worker I am writing because of my concern about my elderly neighbor. She is a really friendly 80-year old lady but she is not able to do everyday jobs to live normal life. I have helped her to cope with everyday life but next year I will leave to other city to attend university and I think she is not able to continue without any help. Usually after school I go and visit her to ask if she needs something from shop or pharmacy. She also has problems using her mobile phone to call her friends or healthcare persons, which I also has helped her to do. Once a week I have helped her with cleaning her apartment. Sometimes

The truth pushes our world forward

The truth pushes our world forward 1. Truth has helped us to study and learn more about our world, not like religion and bible have done. Religion did not let science to evolve, but thanks to the sciences like Galileo Galilei science evolved because he was brave enough to say that earth is not the centre of the world. 2. Truth always comes out, Crusade wars began because of Turks conquered the holy lands and mistreated the

Essay on Iron Man

Iron Man essay A superhero is a character with extraordinary powers who is dedicated to protecting the public. However, this definition can be matched with different sets of character traits. This essay discusses what makes Iron Man special and memorable. Besides literally being strong, which a superhero obviously needs to be, Iron Man aka Tony Stark was also highly intelligent. That's what actually helped him in most situations rather than mindlessly beating the opponent. Tony Stark had graduated with advanced degrees in physics and engineering at the age of 17 from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. When imprisoned and forced to create a weapon of mass destuction in the movie Iron Man, Stark was able to build an armor suit and a reactor to escape. A day to remember

The family was extremely excited that day. My parents had taken me to the mandir the previous day and my bag was packed with great care. I was to go to School for the first time in my life.I was six years old and I still remember the day I first went to school. My aunt came to drop me to my classroom and helped me to get familiar with my teacher and class. I hated the thought of being away from home for so many hours. Tears rolled down my checks as I got off the house and held my aunt’s hand.My aunt could sense my fear and tried to cheer me up . I fet a little better as I saw many other boys and girls entering the class where I had to go.my aunt left me in the classroom and drove to the house. I felt my heart sink as I saw go but I soon began to feel better

Humpty Dumpty from Through the Looking-Glass

My most valuable asset is my cravat. It sometimes upsets me when others can't tell the difference between a cravat and a belt. It is just one of those things you know, that gets you all upset. But anyhow the cravat was an un-birthday present from the White King and Queen. I just love un-birthdays! Imagine that 364 presents a year. What a delight. I consider myself very wise and helpful. I know a great deal of words and I am very good at giving words meanings. You know I once helped a little girl understand a long and difficult poem. She was a little bit lost: couldn't tell the difference between a song's name and what it was called. But I helped her out!

additional men had been mobilized. Estonian forces could now set to counterattack and on the first birthday of the Estonian Republic (February 24, 1919) General Laidoner could report to the Parliament that the enemy had successfully been driven out of Estonian territory. Though the Red Army was continuously supplemented it could not stop the Estonian armed forces. On counterattack the Estonian army took 6,000 prisoners of war and more than 40 cannons. The successful offensive also greatly helped Estonia's neighbors Latvia and Lithuania. On May 12, 1919 the Estonian army went on a decisive offensive and conquered Pskov on May 25. The ostentatious attack of the Red Army towards the West had failed and Soviet Russia was forced into defensive warfare. Estonia was not alone in the War of Independence. Great Britain was the first to answer Estonia's call for help and sent her naval squadron to Tallinn on December 12, 1918. This

Tom was still a little child who did not understand that much in this world. When their mother died Julie took the responsibility, she believed that she needed to be the new mother in all the possible ways and Tom, pretending to be a little baby, helped her to play her role. Pet therapy

It has given difficult children, lonely old people and even anti-social prisoners a completely new outlook on life  Even though pet therapy is only now being widely used, it is not a new idea. In the eighteenth century an English doctor, William Tuke, filled the grounds of a hospital for mentally disturbed people with chickens, rabbits and goats. At a time when people were usually punished for strange behavior rather than helped, this was a radical new approach to treating the mentally disturbed. Tuke's idea was that patients could learn self-control by caring for creatures weaker than themselves.  This is an idea which has persisted. In New York, horses, cows, cats and dogs were recruited to heal soldiers who had been wounded during World War II. These animals comforted the traumatized and helped the battle-scarred to avoid becoming obsessed with their injuries.

Art of Healing: present and future

At the moment it is not allowed to clone people, I think it's unrealistic that in 15 years' time things would really change so much. Organs from dead people can be donated to people who need them to survive. The problem is that it is hard to find a suitable organ. I think that in the future they find a solution how to fit the organs into the patient's body or the doctors are able to make reliable artificial organs and those who cannot be helped today can be helped in the future. I am sure that the future will bring new opportunities to cure diseases that cannot be cured now. I believe and hope that scientist will find some kind of treatment for AIDS for the year 2020. I suppose that if a risky illness will start spreading the scientists will find cure against it quicker and the people will know exactly how to avoid catching a flu that is dangerous and how to react if you have the symptoms of that flu.

I am wiriting becouse of the poor level of service and overall an unpleasant experience. When I first got to the hotel, I had to wait for 15 minutes in the reception before a young woman came, and helped us book in. Throughout my stay I was served mediocre food. The bathroom wasen't cleaned properly and the room servise was pretty bad. The room servise rearly changed my bed sheets and towels. There were 6 power-cuts wich each lasted for atleast 2 minutes. Worse still, I had an extremly noisy neighbour who was entertaining his visitors until 4 AM, two nights in a row. I even complained to the manager but that didn't impove the situation until the third day.

Through the Looking-Glass

Alice couldn't have left the place without seeing the garden so she ran outside where she met some talkative flowers and the Red Queen. The Red Queen was kind enough to help Alice to the top of the hill (and she actually had to walk in the other direction to reach the desired place). Once on the top of the hill Alice noted that the world seemed as if it were a chessboard and WISHED she could be a part of it a queen maybe. The Red Queen then helped her to the Second Square, making her Pawn and telling Alice that if she reaches the Eighth Square she can be a Queen and they shall have a feast. Alice then took the railway through the Third Square, as it is known that pawns can take two squares at their first move. When she exited the train with her new friend the Gnat she reached a forest where she was introduced to Looking-Glass bugs, for example Bread-and- Butterfly who lived on weak tea with cream in it

Friend

mistakes, helps you deal with pressure from others, smiles for you when they are sad, helps you become a better person! No one can make you laugh quite the way your friends can. Most importantly of all friends love you for who you are. I know that when I am going through a tough situation, I always ask my closest friends for advice. No matter where we go or who we become, never forget who helped us get there. There's never a wrong time to pick up a phone or send a message telling your friends how much you miss them or how much you love them.

What are the Advantages and Disadvantages of Tourism

What are the Advantages and Disadvantages of Tourism? In today's world tourism is vital part of economy. Although tourism has became main source of income to many countries, it was not so couple of decades ago. My hobby

Now I roller-skate just about everywhere where it's possible. The wonderful thing about roller-skating is that I do not have to buy a bus ticket. For example, I do not have to be in traffic congestion. Also I do not have to buy some lamellae tires to drive in winter because I can ride a bus in winter. I can ride in some indoor skating park at winter. Roller-skates provide the rider with so much information about balancing and coordination. They have certainly helped me in my daily life. I am better equipped to cope with living. Otherwise I would waist some fossil fuel in a car ore on a roller. So I continue to roller-skate. Besides being healthier I also spend my time better, by that I mean that I'm not pray painting ore doing something illegal. It is indeed a good hobby. KARL SEPP

The Great Fire kokkuvõte

the summer, the city was very dry. Strong winds fanned the flames. In 1665, during the plague, the king, Charles II, had fled in London. His plan, in 1666 (he stayed in London and took charge of the operation to save the city) was to create fire-breaks. The heat created by the fire was so great that the lead roof on the old St Paul's Cathedral melted. The actual human casualty rate was remarkably small with possibly only 5 people dying in this fire. The wind that had helped the fire spread, turned on itself and drove the flames back into what had already been burned. Therefore, the fire had nothing to ignite and the fire died out. The Great Fire had burned down 84 churches and the old St Paul's. However, it had also destroyed the filthy streets associated the Great Plague. It was now up to the city's authority's to re-build and re-plan the city. This task was given to Sir Christopher Wren.

Report to the Board of Governors

Report to the Board of Governors. Introduction The main principal aim of this report is to describe a fund-raising day organised for disadvantaged children and to make some recommendations for the next year. Methods of fund raising Our charity organisation has been going in for collecting money to support disadvantaged children in Britain already for seven years. There are some verified ways to collect money, such as a street collection, house-to-house collection and jumble sales. A large amount of money was raised by the house-to house collection. It`s about a 40% of the whole money we got for these children. Also income from the street collection is really nice as well 30%. So, a 20% of the pie chart I made takes the jumble sale and 10% - other ways of collecting money. Overview This year it was decided to organise a fund-raising day for the charity. It was the nice and cheerful time. Many people agreed to...
