You must be the change you wish to see in the world-

rtf

“You must be the change you wish to see in the world.”

12.d “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” (Mahatma Gandhi) Mahatma Ghandi expresses that everything starts with us, our willingness to help create the world we dream of. It is unlikely that any of us will be the next Mother Teresa but every person has hidden power to do something that benefits to the society. People´s roles are nowadays as important as the next persons, even if they think that little things are insignificant and have no effect, with enough people these small things add up and make an even bigger change that any single organization or person could ever do. To be the change we want to see in the world, people do not have to be smart, rich or well educated. They need to have a dream and commitment. The problems facing the world today are great, and it will surely take the greatness of millions if not b...

To Room Nineteen

“To Room Nineteen” “To room nineteen” is considered to be one of the best short stories by Doris Lessing. The book takes place in a mid-twentieth century in London suburb. It gives insight about women’s rights and London society on these days. Showes how the perfect lives as they seemed from outside, acctually weren’t that ideal on the inside. The book itself is about a middle-aged woman, Susan, whose life is spinning around her four children, ideal husband and lovely home. Everything seems to be just perfect. When the youngest child went off to school, the seeming peace in this family is soon gone. Susan didn’t find the sense of freedom that she expected. She started thinking about herself she lost in her marriege life and was filled with emotions that were not inherent to her.. As she discovered that it was housework, children and husband, that made her lose her self-identity, she stared to hate everythin...

Why should tourists visit Estonia?

Why should tourists visit Estonia? I have always though of my country as a huge ,,multicultural city". We have so many different cultures from different places put into a little place all together that you could almost say we are a huge city not a country. And that has influenced us in a very remarcable way. Since the time we can remember we have been under Danes, Swedes, Germans, Russians, Polans and other. We have taken their traditions into our daily lives and forgotten ours. But still despite the fact that we bearly know our own language structure or our old traditions,we try to awake them once again. Estonia is one of the worlds wealthiest countries when it comes to forests. Almost half of the country is covered with the divercity of trees. Also we have many big rivers. Nowadays there are many possibilities to hike in the forests or to go for a ride on the river. Many company`s have started to give out th...

Women writer's influence on our society

Women writer's influence on our society Estonian women writer's history doesn't go far back. The reason for that is that people were slaves back then. Even if there were writers, then most weren't famous and they wrote poems and stories more for themselves. Also being a woman and a writer wasn't considered as a decent job for a woman at that time. The stories that we have from that time were given to one another by talking and mostly we don't know who were the authors. Education was also very expensive so only rich people could get it and Estonians, who were just farmers, mostly didn't have money for that. First I am going to talk about Marie Heiberg. She lived 1890-1942. Her first poem collection was ,,Mure-lapse laulud" in translation ,,Problem child's songs". Her talent was noticed, but she didn't have a change to really become famous. She was in a great penury that made her life really though and she had a ...

Dear listeners, most of us here today are soon going to make the biggest and most important step of our lives so far. We are going to start a completely new and different life after graduation. The emphasis therefore should be on the word "life". The real thing, it's coming, it's going to hit us and it's going to hit us hard. Nothing is going to be the same. Life will never ever be as simple, carefree and easygoing again. To me, the expression "life is hard" has never meant anything. I have always been more of a "life is beautiful"-type. I have never really thought that it actually is hard. Mostly because I have never thought what the real life is like. Ofcourse I have seen it, it's all around me, but only seeing and seeing plus thinking through what you see are two really different things. An example: have you ever been to a funeral of a collateral relative as a child? Do you remember what you felt? I remember I felt almost nothing ...

My Children Deserve the Best Childhood Ever Hi! I am 35 years old. I live with my husband and we have two kids: Oliver and Merilin. Oliver is 10 years old and Merilin is 7 years old. Before getting these two kids, me and my husband used to live in a flat in the centre of the city. But when I get pregnant for the first time, we decided to move in a house in Nõmme. It's a beautiful place to live. My favourite, because I lived there when I was younger. It's also nice that we have a big backyard where our children can play and just spend time. Me and my husband can also spend good time there. We usually grill there or have parties with our friends. When Oliver and Merilin were young, about 2 years old, I never scream when they did something wrong because they're only children, they don't know anything about life and doing something right or wrong yet. When they grew up, went to school and sometimes got bad...

Books have been around for a couple hunder years for now, but there aren't any remains left of the first ever books because of the rarity when the first book was realased. First books ever were written by hand and that's the reason why there were so few of them. Thanks to the invention of the printing press books became more common and accesable for everyday people. After that came the printer but the next big step up was the invention of the e-books and portable screens that could almost outweigh regular books in every aspect possible. But nothing is perfect in this world so naturaly e-books and tablets have their weaknesses, for example, battery life and portability are the main concerns when deciding to rely on them. Regular books are quite rugged, few bumps and bruses aren't going to make it unreadable, but when u drop your tablet then there's a good chance that it will break and you're going to have to pay quite a lot of mon...

Why young people today are healthier than ever before

why young people today are healthier than ever before Neath the modern men there is a opinion, that a sane mine and a healthy spirit in one boddy is human health. Lately attention is given to weight, especially by the younger females. At a verry early age people think that what thinner they are, the more beautyful and healtyer they are. They count calories, what they eat, do a lot of sports. Ofcourse there are some who tend to overstrain themselves, but mostly they do it within reason. We can find propacandas everywhere that want us to eat healthyer and hold our health. Lets start from smoking and drinking alcohol. Alcohol and tobaco shorten our lifetime crasually. Tobacco smoke is bad for our lung and alcohol is bad for our liver. Thats why all unhealthy products have a warning sign , tu make people more sane. Young people enjoy sports, because sport helps us keep a sane mind and a good and healthy look. How we look inflicts us anywher...

Which is more important-sport or science?

This is something that has had me in two minds for a very long time, why does humanity waste so much time and money on sport and the pursuit of sport when realistically it is just a sideshow, a morale booster for the masses? The sheer volume of money spent each year on sports are actually absolutely ridiculous. Sports have become a monster that is beyond our control. This happens as legitimate scientific research struggles to find funding or a struggle along with tiny handouts from patronising governments around the world. Space exploration is probably the prime example in that it is now, at this stage of human development, more important than ever before that we find ways to make space inhabitable. But instead NASA has become a bit of a joke to the public and space exploration the stuff of B- grade horror movies. The question we have to ask ourselves is this, do sports stars really deserve to be paid five times the salary of a scientis...

Kadi Bruus Courage in the Storm I was covering my ears while waiting for the next thunder to strike. The distance from my house to the shelter seemed insurmountable. I swallowed the lump in my throat and run. The storm was so intense, it made hurricane Irma look like a sneeze. It must have been the loudest thunderstorm I have ever heard and the rain like someone was pouring water from a giant bucket. I barely made it to the shelter, that my dad built a few years ago. It was a safe place to hide while hurricanes and thunderstorms were bullying. The room was equipped with all the necessary things food, water, batteries, flashlights, warm clothes, etc. But to my surprise, I was the first one there. Where were mum and dad? Where was my younger sister? I tried to remember where I saw them last. I couldn't think st...

Aadvantages and disadvantages of being famous?

What are the advantages and disadvantages of being famous ? At first, it sounds like a dream come true - I am famous and I have so many advantages. But actually there are some major disadvantages of being famous, too. The biggest advantage of being famous is definitely financial. You often are well paid for just showing your face in some commercial. Also it seems like all the doors in the world are opened for you. You have so many different opportunities thanks to that and your life is never dull. And lastly everybody loves to have admirers. But where are the admirers, there is always a lot of criticism coming your way. You have to be really solid as a rock to cope with that. Also you have to have a lot of energy as your daily schedule is usually very busy and you can not rest when ever you want. And what comes to the fans, then there are always some of those who cross the line and become quite annoying. All in all it seems that b...

You are what you think you are

You are what you think you are In my oppinion, you have to work hard to achive greater things in life. I do not agree with people who say that karma decides your life, or that everything is decided before you were born. I know, that if you work hard and put a lot of effort in your life, you will be succesful. Of course there are a lot of people, who would disagree with me, and a lot of them have great and logical explanations and theories, but in my opinion it just is not true. For example, every politican or person on a high paying job, who i have ever seen, has worked his way up the career ladder. Usualy they have studied very hard in school, to get to where they want to be. Most of them have gotten to where they want to be. Of course there are people who have gotten to important positions in life thanks to luck and many of them have had a lot of good ideas or have the imprtant knowledge, but major...

The most important thing about buying a used car is that you know everything about the history of the car, including: · Previous owners · Car condition · If the car was ever involved in an accident · Run · And much more! Also you have to check the fuel consumption because the fuel is quite expensive and addons. Furthermore the car colour is important too, from the dark colours you can see dirt much better. Gay rights

Gay rights According to an opinion widely held, homosexuality is said to be freer today than ever before. It is present and visible everywhere: in the street, in the newspapers, on television, at the movies. It is even supposedly completely accepted, judging by the recent legislative advances made in many countries for the recognition of same sex couples. Certainly, some work remains necessary in order to eradicate the last vestiges of discrimination. But with changing public opinion, it will only be, according to some people, a matter of time, the time needed for a movement begun many decades earlier to achieve its goals. To tell the truth, the 20th century has undoubtedly been the most violently homophobic period of history: deportation to concentration camps under the Nazi regime, Soviet gulags, blackmail and persecution in the United States in the McCarthy era... Obviously, all of that can seem very distant to us now. But quite oft...

How the right of privacy was viewed in the 1890s and 2010s.

Essay How the right of privacy was viewed in the 1890s and 2010s. Comparison between two articles by Warren & Brandeis and Julie Cohen The two articles have questioned - What is privacy ? The simplest answer would be that the privacy is a human right and like in the first article by Warren & Brandeis, they quote Judge Cooly who sayd that, the privacy is the right to be let alone. This means, that a person is free to go and do what ever the person wants, no one has a right to harm him/her physically or mentally and vice versa. What ever the person decides to do, nobody else has the right to know about it without persons premission. Julie Cohen starts her essay with a point that privacy has the image problem. In the world where there is no mobile platforms, data mining social meedia, in simple words the internet, its easyer to leave the person alone, but what can we do in the world where is very difficult to be incognito because ...

Working at home and in the office

Working at home and in the office When people talk about working in the office, they usually consider the office work the most boring work ever. People have to sit still for long hours and work until theirand heads start to ache. They can only have a short lunch break and no more free time is allowed. When people work in the office, they have to give their fullest and slacking off is unapproved. In comparison, working at home seems to have many benefits. People who work at home can personally choose their working hours according to their own lifestyle and take as many breaks as they feel necessary. A good rest and a comfortable atmosphere can easily raise the quality of the work that people are doing. However, when people work at home, they might find it hard to focus and they can easily lost their motivation when they don't have a boss breathing down their necks and a clock that is ticking time and never giving them any rest. Wealth does not bring happiness. True or falce?

Wealth does not bring happiness. True or falce? Many people believe that you can do anything if you have money, they believe that money brings happiness, great fortune, fame and health. You have power and you can buy whatever you like. On one hand, it is true but on the other hand it is false. Money can improve your lifestyle in many ways. It can help you buy fresh food, it can help you get good medical care. Money also allows you to travel and meet new people, new places and new civilizations. It permits you to have a lot of free time to relax, do the things you like and buy all the stuff you like. On the other hand, money makes you greedy and selfish. The more you make the less you spend on charities or donations. You may become a victim of its power! Many people become addicted to luxury. Our grandmothers and grandfathers often complain, that we eat wrong sort of food, like hamburgers and french fries. But I think, it isn`t true. Yes, we eat hamburgers, but not every day. Me myself couldn`t eat a hamburger every day, I will get enough. It seems to me that younger generation appreciate a good work out more than ever more. We like to relax by doing exercises and fitting our body. It gives a lot of energy. In my opinion we are going to be a very healthy generation. Mari Saar.

Character Reference

Character Reference. I have known Alice for 11 years, both as a friend and as classmates. We first met at elementary school. Since then, I have got to know her very well and have come to appreciate her many talents. Her studies are going brilliantly, she is an excellent student. She knows Russian, Estonian, English and German as well. Alice is very helpful and nice person. She always gives the impression of educated and sensible person at any situation, what she has been ever got. She always finds the right way out of the situation. In fact, I would go as far as to say that she is so energetic person, that your company will need no more workers. Sometimes it seems, that is capable to do thousands doings at the same time. The one her drawback is `hurry sickness`. She is always in a great hurry, even if it is not necessary. Even at school we had such cases, when she was like `in hurry`. She was alw...

People whould have the rights to design their own babies

People should have the right to design their own babies. Have you ever caught yourself thinking about what if you had the power to design your own baby? Most likely everyone has. It is every parent's hope that their child will turn out to be a perfect human being without any physical or mental disabilities. But is it moral? First of all, if parents could design their own baby everyone would be perfect. What is more there would not be any babies born with illnesses or disabilities, both mental and physical. This is good news both to parents and children because living together with a handicap or being one is a very hard and sad thing. Another major point is, how far would people go designing their babies. One thing is to make sure that your baby is healthy but to design your child's appearance is superficial, what is more, it is morally wrong. In addition the way one person looks is not as impo...

The Importance of English History

The Importance of English History Essay There is not a single country in the world without a history it can be either long or short, yet still a unique part of the existence. England has had many colourful events throughout the history, but some have dominated over the others and therefore all together formed a country we can see nowadays: the Great Britain. Starting from the beginning, Britain was part of the mainland until about 6000 BC, when it became an island. Ever since then it has been developing slightly different from the other part of the Europe. For example, when two parts separated, some animals had already adopted the life on the island and did not move back to the mainland. They suited their appearance more comfortable for the isolated island and learned how to survive in the wet climate and rather heavy air. The first inhabitants the Iberians also h...

Estonians-What we’re really like

Estonians: What we’re really like

Estonians: What we're really like In my opinion Estonians are quite serious, we work hard and we're well-educated. We love to travel and a lot of people have a job or go to school somewhere outside Estonia. Ernest Hemingway once said that at least one Estonian can be found in every part of the world. Many of us have emigrated to the US, Canada or Australia. Some of them came back after the restauration of the independence in 1991. Estonia is a quite young country with painful history but I think we've been strong and kept our heads up. We may have a little country but it doesn't mean that the people are small too. The Estonians are more self-confident than you can ever imagine. We have many talented people, especially athletes like Markko Märtin, Marko Asmer, Kaia Kanepi, Andrus Veerpalu and Mart Poom. We love sports and working out is a part of our lives, that's why you don't see almost any overweight ...

Marriage - an outdated tradition

Kätlin Keinast Marriage an outdated tradition Marriage has been a very important part of peoples´ lives since ancient times. Over the years things have changed and more couples tend not to make so strong commitments any more. It seems to me that marriage is losing it´s meaning and traditional values. What would be the reasons? To begin with, I believe it is strongly connected with the high standards people have. I find that people are quite distrustful of each other, that is why they prefer not to make serious relationships. It think that avoiding serious commitments is like a self-protection. In this sense break-up would be easier to manage with than divorce. We need to be very certain about our partner and feel secure before getting married. What is more, a lot of people nowadays have been married before. They alre...

What’s the use of everlasting life if we can’t maintain a youthful spirit? Better to die with a hopeful eye on the future than to have such a long empty difficult life though eternity. To begin with ,if most of us one day have the opportunity to extend our lives indefinitely, how will that change the dynamics of society and culture? A typical person living to 80 years of age goes through several dramatic changes in his lifetime: his opinions and attitudes change, his interests, his friends, his career, sometimes even how he remembers the past. Imagine how much change would take place in a thousand years of life! We wouldn’t be a shado...

We all have felt good about donating something.

Mait Rõõmus Mr. Savala English 4 26 September 2013 Prompt #5 We all have felt good about donating something. It gives us inner peace, satisfaction, and an overall benevolent feeling. Donating money, clothes or "yourself" by volunteering does not require us to do the impossible we do that which is quite possible. A few weeks ago, I went through my friend's wallet and found an organ donor card. It really made me think. Would I be willing to donate an organ to help someone or to receive an organ from someone I do not know if I needed it? This whole idea makes me stop and think. Health issues are very common nowadays and luckily, medical science has advanced so much that nearly everything is curable. In addition to good medical science, organ transplants have improved too. You can replace almost everything from your body. But when all of these great advances come down...
