Health topic

Doctors who provide medical care can be divided into two main categories: general practitioners and specialists. General practitioners provide primary medical care only. But they treat a wide variety of ailments. They provide care for every member of the family, regardless of the age . Specialists specialize in a certain field of medicine. Doctors could not do their job without the help of many skilled professionals. Nurses work closely with doctors in the clinics, hospitals and medical centres. Nurses also provide many services to patients independent of the doctors. Various kinds of therapists give special treatment as ordered by the doctor. Other skilled workers serve clinics, medical laboratories, X-ray departments and operating theatres. Diseases There are many different diseases in the world. Some have been stamped out, others have improved and come back. New diseases have also developed, such as AIDS, stress, diabetes etc

Social Problems

the internet. Health care for the homeless Health care for the homeless is a major public health challenge. Homeless people are more likely to suffer injuries and medical problems from their lifestyle on the street, which includes poor nutrition, substance abuse, exposure to the severe elements of weather, and a higher exposure to violence (robberies, beatings, and so on). Yet at the same time, they have little access to public medical services or clinics. This is a particular problem in the US where many people lack health insurance: "Each year, millions of people in the United States experience homelessness and are in desperate need of health care services. Most do not have health insurance of any sort, and none have cash to pay for medical care." Homeless persons often find it difficult to document their date of birth or their address. Because homeless people usually have no place to store

Clarification

example. They (North Americans) enjoy telling us that they're the best. And are they right? Yes, if you measure success purely in dollars. ... but the (health) service is under too much pressure to give adequate support. Can you be a bit more specific? Certainly. There're thousands of people who are in great pain. Some are waiting for minor surgery while others are waiting for treatment at pain control clinics. ... but it's possible to give the job to a man with fewer qualifications. Does that happen? Perhaps not as much as it used to, but if a woman leaves a job to start a family, it may be very difficult for her to return to full-time work. 9.2 Clarification through "What" or "How" Questions inviting illustration or example. What's wrong with creating a few more jobs in the tourist industry? Think of all

What is integrated care?

and local measures; contribute to evidence-informed integration 14 What is integrated care? The extent of integration Horizontal and vertical integration There is a need to distinguish between horizontal and vertical integration. Horizontal integration focuses on competing or collaborating organisations, networks or groups in the health economy and might involve, for instance, grouping outpatient clinics within a geographic network of providers. Vertical integration focuses on networks and groups at different stages of care within the health economy (what some commentators refer to as the supply chain or care pathway) and might involve, for instance, the drawing together of a hospital with local community services. Initiatives to integrate care have tended to focus on either horizontal or vertical integration rather than both at any one point in time

Cialdini raamat

Should you ever find yourself as the foreper- son of a jury under these conditions, you could reduce the risk of a hung jury by choosing a secret rather than public balloting technique (Kerr 8{ MacCoun, 1985). The Deutsch and Gerard finding that we are truest to our decisions if we have bound ourselves to them publicly can be put to good use. Consider the organiza- tions dedicated to helping people rid themselves of bad habits. Many weight- reduction clinics, for instance, understand that often a person's private decision to lose weight will be too weak to withstand the blandishments of bakery windows, wafting cooking scents, and late-night Sara Lee commercials. So they see to it that the decision is buttressed by the pillars of public commitment. They require their clients to write down an immediate weight-loss goal and show that goal to as many friends, relatives, and neighbors as possible. Clinic operators report that frequently
