Central Park Central Park is a public park at the center of Manhattan in New York City. The park initially opened in 1857, on 843 acres (341 ha) of city-owned land. Central Park, which has been a National Historic Landmark since 1962, was designed by landscape designer and writer Frederick Law Olmsted and the English architect Calvert Vauxin 1858 after winning a design competition. They also designed Brooklyn's Prospect Park. The park, which receives approximately thirty-five million visitors annually, is the most visited urban park in the United States. It was opened on 770 acres (3.1 km2) of city-owned land and was expanded to 843 acres. The park is maintained by the Central Park Conservancy, a private, not-for-profit organization that manages the park under a contract with the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation.

People love this park. They like to spend time there. The park contains several nature ­ looking lakes and ponds. There are over 25,000 trees. There are a lot of water birds at Central Park. Over a quarter of all the bird species found in the United States have been seen in Central Park. A total of twenty ­ nine sculptures have been built over the years, most have been donated by individuals or organizations. There are a lot of activities what you can do there. Central Park has twenty ­ one playgrounds for children. There is a big zoo. People can do different sports there. Central Park has two ice skating rinks.

New York City is on the east coast of the USA, in the south-eastern corner of New York State. It has a population of over seven million,the largest of any city in the country, and an area of 783 kilometres. The population of New York has contained members of many races ever since the 17th century. Nowadays about 40 per cent of its inhabitants are immigrants or have a parents who were. The city has over 20 000 hectars of parkland. One of the parks, Central Park, was designed by Frederic Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux. Its 340 hectares contain half a million tees, several lakes, a rollerskating rink, a theatre, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and much more. There are beaches in many parts of New York. One of the most popular is Coney Island Beach in Brooklyn. Visitors there can swim in the sea, enjoy the amusement park, eat hot dogs and visit the New York Aquarium, which contains about 10 000 fish.

Hyde Park is the best known because it's the largest and finest park in London. Its territory is 140 hectares. It is famous for its public speakers who stand on a box, a table or just a chair and talk to little crowds about all sorts of political, social and other ideas.
