together, they bring back happy memories. Without traditions life would not be as fulfilled. Traditions are the glue that binds one generation to another. They give every member something to look forward to in our sometimes chaotic lives. They remind us to slow down and remember the things and people that are most important. There are many different traditions and they all have different meaning. In my opinion the most important traditions are family ones, like celebrating birthdays, anniversaries and weddings. These traditions bring family closer together. For me birthdays are very important. On your birthday you can feel the love around you and also you can see that there are so many people who care about you. In my opinion the importance of ,,The New Year" on January 1 is overemphasized. There seems to be an almost magical belief in a "New Year" bringing change. Other than starting a new wall

Women colored their cheeks with a herb "naistepuna" ("women's red") and went to tavern to have some red liqueur. Celebrating spring contains more or less fertilizing rituals. As we have to do a lot of work to making something grow, these rituals have an important place in our traditions. For example, my family celebrates Christmas by having a Christmas tree and decorating it. We also exchange gifts, sometimes go to church, and cook a big dinner, a really big dinner. But I must say that when we do all these things, we don't keep in mind the true meaning of Christmas - celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. Christmas is one of the biggest celebrations for all Christians. However, it would be wrong to assume that it is only celebrated among Christians. With the world becoming a global village, Christmas is now celebrated in many countries around the world. The History of Flag Day

The History Of Flag Day The Fourth of July was traditionally celebrated as America's birthday, but the idea of an annual day specifically celebrating the Flag is believed to have first originated in 1885. BJ Cigrand, a schoolteacher, arranged for the pupils in the Fredonia, Wisconsin Public School, District 6, to observe June 14 (the 108th anniversary of the official adoption of The Stars and Stripes) as 'Flag Birthday'. In numerous magazines and newspaper articles and public addresses over the following years, Cigrand continued to enthusiastically advocate the observance of June 14 as 'Flag Birthday', or 'Flag Day'.

within the former grounds of the Domus Aurea. According to a reconstructed inscription found on the site, "the emperor Vespasian ordered this new amphitheatre to be erected from his general's share of the booty." This is thought to refer to the vast quantity of treasure seized by the Romans following their victory in the Great Jewish Revolt in 70AD. The Colosseum can be thus interpreted as a great triumphal monument built in the Roman tradition of celebrating great victories. Vespasian's decision to build the Colosseum on the site of Nero's lake can also be seen as a populist gesture of returning to the people an area of the city which Nero had appropriated for his own use. In contrast to many other amphitheatres, which were located on the outskirts of a city, the Colosseum was constructed in the city centre; in effect, placing it both literally and symbolically at the heart of Rome. The Colosseum had been

Body Shaming

Once you’ve become more aware of your own body-shaming behaviors, you may notice how often your friends, family or co-workers do it. Talk to them. Discuss why it bothers you and help them see how it may also be hurtful to them. Find something (or things!) you LIKE about your body. We spend so much time witnessing advertisements about how to make our eyelashes millimeters longer and how to get whiter teeth that it’d be nice to counter some of that by celebrating what we do have. Maybe, despite your body image struggles, you love a new hairstyle you discovered. Maybe you’ve noticed how much stronger you feel with balanced eating. Find something physical or nonphysical that makes you YOU and celebrate it every day. I think that body shaming is a serious problem. People shame others because it makes them feel better about theirselves. Bodyshaming should be stopped.

Despite changes in racial attitudes and literary standards for poetry, Kipling's poetry continues to be popular with those who see it as "vigorous and adept" rather than "jingling". In modern-day India, whence he drew much of his material, his reputation remains controversial, especially amongst modern Hindu nationalists and some post-colonial critics. In November 2007, it was announced that his birthplace in the campus of the J J School of Art in Mumbai will be turned into a museum celebrating the author and his works. Kipling's stories for adults also remain in print and have garnered high praise from writers as different as Poul Anderson, Jorge Luis Borges, and George Orwell. Nonetheless, Kipling is most highly regarded for his children's books. His Jungle Books have been made into several movies; the first was made by producer Alexander Korda, and others by the Walt Disney Company. A number of his poems were set to music by Percy Grainger

Identity as a personal project

“Through others we become ourselves.” Lev S. Vygotsky I really think that the biggest addiction is communication with others. That’s because we need to know, what they are thinking, how do they react for our behaviour and speech. On the special place here is understanding of “person” and it´s context. I do agree to Giddens, that it varies culturally. For example, the families are different – big or small, how many generations live together and what are they celebrating. Every culture has its own folklore and traditions, language and cuisine. All of these factors influence persons´ future and identity. Reading assumptions described by Wetherell and Maybin, I found myself recognising and sharing them. First, very important trait for persons from counties “such as the UK and USA” is democracy of expression. I do think, that in Arabic culture there is no such freedom to express yourself publicly, that just don ´t suit their traditions

Sandringham became the home to a second Royal couple when Prince George, the second son of the Prince and Princess of Wales and by then heir to the throne, married Princess May of Teck, the fiancée of the late Duke of Clarence. They moved into a house on the estate which came to be known as York Cottage. One of Prince George's innovations at Sandringham was the founding of the first Royal pigeon loft in 1886

Charles I: virtuoso king, connoisseur and collector of pictures, best collection in Europe. 5. The Caroline court culture and Cavalier poetry (Carew, Suckling, Lovelace, Waller, Cowley, Herrick) 17th C, from classes supporting Charles I in Civil War. Much of poetry light in style, on secular subjects. Most were courtiers (except Herrick). English country life, rural country estate – man made paradise, arcadia, ancient hospitality. Poets spoke with the voice of celebrating the king and queen. King and court retreated into a self-perpetuating arcadia of their own. Civil War. Sense that past would never return. 1640s. Metaphysical poets were fond of imagery difficult to understand and complicated metaphors, Cavaliers preferred more straightforward expression. Valued elegance, were part of refined, courtly culture, but poetry often frankly erotic. Short lyric poem, favourite theme carpe diem. Very decent, like Charles’s court.

THE CAPITALIST NIGER

THE CAPITALIST NIGER Chika Onyeani ………………………Every African must internalise this book - period….DAA INTRODUCTION In October 1960, Nigeria received its independence from Britain. By then, Ghana the former Gold Coast had been independent for three years under the great Osagyefo Kwame Nkumah. It was a time for celebrating Africa’s coming of age, as more and more African countries received their independence either from Britain or France. It was especially a poignant time for Africa, as then British Prime Minister Harold McMillan articulated his now famous “winds of change” sweeping Africa. We had high hopes for Africa, for the Black race, that the insidious imposition of foreign rule on us, the looting of Africa’s natural resources by our colonial masters accorded us would be things of history.

ESTONIAN SYMPHONIC MUSIC. THE FIRST CENTURY 1896-1996.

Without doubt Põldmäe’s ballet Merineitsi2 (The Mermaid, staged at the Vanemuine Theatre in 1974) is one of his best and mature works. Later, a suite would be arranged from this music.3 It is picturesque and Põldmäe is in his beloved “element”, the score being rich in colours. The music is well suited to the fantastic plot. The timeless action takes place on a nameless island. The ruler Kaspar is an unrestrained despot celebrating his upcoming wedding. The islanders go to the seashore to fish with a seine in order to pay homage to the bride. They are astonished to find a Mermaid in their nets trying in vain to escape back to sea. Kaspar announces that he will spend his wedding night with the Mermaid after the feast. This does not happen because the Mermaid has fled. An example of the use of colour from the beginning of the ballet suite; it is a sound canvas, the flow of time, a lonely island and stillness: 1

" I gestured at my yoga pants and fitted workout tank. "After I time the walk to work, I'm going to hit the gym." "Walk fast, work out faster." Cary's perfectly executed arched brow made me laugh. I fully expected his million-dollar face to appear on billboards and fashion magazines all over the world one day. No matter his expression, he was a knockout. "How about tomorrow after work?" I offered as a substitute. "If I make it through the day, that'll be worth celebrating." "Deal. I'm breaking in the new kitchen for dinner." "Uh..." Cooking was one of Cary's joys, but it wasn't one of his talents. "Great." Blowing a wayward strand of hair off his face, he grinned at me. "We've got a kitchen most restaurants would kill for. There's no way to screw up a meal in there." Dubious, I headed out with a wave, choosing to avoid a conversation about cooking. Taking

In the Tiananmen Square incident, the Chinese government rallied after several days of confusion to launch a crushing response that drove the students and their Goddess of Liberty from the Square. One of the most vivid examples of this retaliatory movement in films is in Red River, when Tom Dunson has been toppled from his throne by his foster-son, M a t t h e w Garth, in a central Supreme Ordeal. In the Reward stage, while M a t t and his men are celebrating in the town where they've sold the cattle, Dunson is busy recruiting a small army of gunmen. In T h e R o a d Back phase, he comes riding after M a t t with the force of a railroad train and the stated intention of killing his adopted son. W h a t had been a story of overcoming obstacles on a cattle drive now becomes a story of a parent stalking his child to get revenge. propaganda to unpalatable truths, and so, as Miss Friedrichs said, "Even if we had a plum, it was not considered as one." In April of 1945, the American front engulfed the crypt-analysts at Burgscheidungen Castle and swept past. A few days later, Haskell Cleaves, a Signal Corps officer from Maine, discovered what they were doing. Headquarters sent out a mixed commission of American, British, and French experts to interrogate them. On May 8, while the world was celebrating V-E Day, 35 of them were flown to London for interrogation. For the cryptanalysts of the German Foreign Office, the war had ended. What had they accomplished? They had achieved some remarkable technical successes, and for some that was enough. Kunze and the other mathematicians usually lost interest in a problem after its cryptanalytic difficulties had been surmounted. Even the codebreakers who were interested in their
