Word processing versus handwriring hinne 5

Whenever I write by hand I have to think a lot harder about how to spell certain words. I notice that my friends also do the same thing and we have to ask each other how words are spelt or if sentences make sense. We have become sort of dependent on word processing. Because of technology my writing has gotten more informal and it's easier to write in a personal or informal tone. Because I use technology so much to communicate to friends and family it is sometimes difficult to transition to scholarly and formal writing styles. This class has helped me practice writing in different tones. I have really learned to write to a specific audience instead of just writing to anyone. We have practiced scholarly writing and writing longer more serious papers than those I had written in high school.

The Life of Dante, the Inferno of Dante

He writes in the first person so the reader can identify and deeply understand the truths he wished to share about the meaning of life and man's relationship with the Creator. Dante is remembered as a great thinker and one of the most learned writers of all time. Many scholars consider his epic poem The Divine Comedy consisting of Inferno, Paradiso, and Purgatorio, among the finest works of all literature. Critics have praised it not only as magnificent poetry, but also for its wisdom and scholarly learning. Dante was a man who lived, who saw political and artistic success, and who was in love. He was also a man who was defeated, who felt danger and the humiliation of exile, and who was no stranger to the cruelty and treachery possible in people. Dante felt he was a victim of a grave injustice. He also suffered serious self-doubts, natural for a man in exile. His works reflect his experiences and attempts to answer some of life's difficult questions.

What kind of manners did he have? Was he a good person? Stout and brawny, the Miller has a wart on his nose and a big mouth, both literally and figuratively. He threatens the Host's notion of propriety when he drunkenly insists on telling the second tale. Indeed, the Miller seems to enjoy overturning all conventions: he ruins the Host's carefully planned storytelling order; he rips doors off hinges; and he tells a tale that is somewhat blasphemous, ridiculing religious clerks, scholarly clerks, carpenters, and women. The Rise and Demise of the New Public Management, 28 10

Here one can only speculate for the moment and look at the arguments against NPM presented before. One of the key reasons why it could not last is that PA is a very heterogeneous field of scholarship, combining scholars from a variety of backgrounds and a variety of contemporary disciplines, such as law, political science, and public administration proper. It was always possible to receive a chair, for instance, even if one was fundamentally anti-NPM. In addition, the field of PA as a scholarly discipline is quite small, and the pyramid of scientific prestige is very narrow at the top, so a few very senior scholars and a few key publications really can make a difference. A third reason is that there were many PA scholars and practicioners from pre-NPM times who had never liked the concept, be it for good or such in the case of Continental lawyers and old-fashioned bureaucrats for bad reasons. They were

Challenges of childrens participation A Case Study of active citizenship in Cadle Primary School

However, the adoption of the U.N Convention of the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) in 1989 granted for the first time the recognition for children as worthy individuals with rights of their own. The UNCRC laid the foundation for the potential re-evaluation of our traditional understanding of childhood and the perception of children as primarily objects of the adult world. Since, then the UNCRC has attracted significant scholarly interest from various disciplines and as such a high degree of research has been published in this area already. The increasing sociological interest in children in particular that has provided a new perspective around the idea of children as competent social actors has provoked a great controversy and confusion as it challenges the image of the incompetent child which is overwhelmingly prevalent in the Western society. The purpose of this dissertation is to critically explore this

essential character: that of a ruling class campaign of terror directed against the female peasant population. Witches represented a political, religious and sexual threat to the Protestant and Catholic churches alike, as well as to the state. Many people were executed, and others were imprisoned, tortured, banished, and had lands and possessions confiscated. The majority of those accused were women. Current scholarly estimates of the number of people executed for witchcraft vary between about 40,000 and 100,000. The total number of witch trials in Europe which are known for certain to have ended in executions is around 12,000. In Early Modern European tradition, witches have stereotypically, though not exclusively, been women. Witch-hunts first appeared in large numbers in southern France and Switzerland during the 14th and 15th centuries. The peak years of witch-hunts in

literature in the past, or because it was once associated with a great culture or religion. These are all factors which can motivate someone to learn a language, of course, but none of them alone, or in combination, can ensure a language’s world spread. Indeed, such factors cannot even guarantee survival as a living language –as is clear from the case of Latin, learned today as a classical language by only a scholarly and religious few. Correspondingly, inconvenient structural properties (such as awkward spelling in English) do not stop a language achieving international status either. [1, p. 9] There could be many various reasons for the language to become lingua franca but most often, a language is accepted from outside the community, such as English or French, because of the political, economic, or religious influence of a foreign power.

The book seeks to cover the entire history of cryptology. My goal has been twofold: to narrate the development of the various methods of making and breaking codes and ciphers, and to tell how these methods have affected men. When I began this book, I, like other well-informed amateurs, knew about all that had been published on the history of cryptology in books on the subject. How little we really knew! Neither we nor any professionals realized that many valuable articles lurked in scholarly journals, or had induced any cryptanalysts to tell their stories for publication, or had tapped the vast treasuries of documentary material, or had tried to take a long view and ask some questions that now appear basic. I believe it to be true that, from the point of view of the material previously published in books on cryptology, what is new in this book is 85 to 90 per cent. Yet it is not exhaustive. A foolish secrecy still clothes much of World War II cryptology—though I

He outlined a wide national cultural programme to deal with the substantial cultural and educational challenges that deeply engrossed him; he was the initiator and organiser of a great collection of folklore and folk songs, and scholarly research. Jakob Hurt advocated the rights of the Estonian language in schools and official management, emphasised the importance of folklore, equal rights of all nations to existence, and the advancement of the church in the spiritual life of the nation.
