The Romans came to Britain nearly 2000 years ago and changed our country. The Romans lived in Rome, a city in the centre of the country of Italy .One day, some years before Jesus Christ was born, the Romans came to Britain. First invasion - Caesar's first raid In August 55 B.C. (55 years before Jesus was born) the Roman general, emperor Julius Caesar invaded Britain. He took with him two Roman legions. After winning several battles against the Britons in South-East England he returned to France. Second invasion - Caesar's second raid In 54 B.C. Julius Caesar came to Britain again landing at Walmer near Deal in Kent. This time he brought with him five legions (30,000 foot soldiers) and 2,000 cavalrymen (horse riders). This time the Romans crossed the River Thames. After more fighting, the British tribes promised to pay tribute to Rome and were then left in peace for nearly a century. Third and final invasion In 43 A.D. (43 years after Je...
Money Makes the World Go Round Money is powerful. People do everything to get money, the more the better. Some people even kill to get more money or that the other man would not get that much. Why has money become so valuable? When I was a small boy, I thought of money as a piece of paper that my parents give away at the store. Growing up, I have realized the power of this paper. It can get you everything. And by everything I mean absolutely everything. It can get you food, a house, a car, a bike, sometimes even love. When you go outside, then you often see homeless persons looking for bottles. You also see very rich people who seem to have everything but yet they want more. They all ask themselves the same question - how to get more money? I think money has become so valuable because prospects are slowly running out and because of that gas value goes up, food value goes up and everythi...
Litter is a problem throughout the country, particularly in urban areas and in the more populated areas of Kiev, Kharkov, Donetsk and others. People litter on the banks of the rivers, in parks, in the streets. A lack of bins is not a major factor in littering. Sometimes you can see the bin in the street, and a pile of litter half a meter away from it. The main reason of littering is behaviour. The more litter people see on the street the more inclined to litter. For example, cinema complexes, football ground and theatres are cleaned up but such areas as parks and streets are neglected. But people don't think that litter can be dangerous. It can especially be dangerous when it involves items such as broken glass, needles and syringes. Litter can get into the drainage system and block it. Litter scattered all over the city. Makes it look ugly. And it usually costs a lot of money to clean up the city every year. But the biggest problem is ...

Advestising Robert Rivik There are many different ways to advertise, most of advertisments that we see are TV commercials and also we can hear advertisments from radio and see advertising posters in public places. Advertising is good for customers, because otherwise they wouldn't know about new products, that different companies are offering. Advertising also keeps the prices lower, for example, when we watch TV and we see 3 different types of commercials based on the same product, then we choose the cheapest product. It means, that every company wants to sell, but for selling they have to keep prices as low as possible. There are different types of advertising techniques, one is aimed at grown ups and other one is for children. Advertisments for grown ups are based on 2 things, how good the product is and how low price it has. But advertisments for children are ve...
Pros and cons of sports I'm going to talk about advantages and disadvantages of sports. There are several really good reasons why to do sports but always there is something negative in every good thing you have to take into account. On the one hand, sports are really good for your health. Sporting keeps you fit and gives you dicipline. People who do not sport regularly have more illnesses and tend to be overweight. Also, doing sports even extends life and help reduce the feelings of sadness and depression. In addition to that, sporting keeps children busy. Nowadays a lot of kids tend to stupid things at their spare time so when they are doing anykind of sports it keeps them out of trouble and even away from TV and video games, that have really bad influence on their eyes, student achievement and may make them violent. Sport boosts their self confident, motivation and responsibility as well. If childern ar...
Reading a quality or a popular newspaper There are two types of newspapers, one of them is quality papers and other are popular papers, tabloids. There are some differences between those two actually really unlike types of newspapers. Firstly, the main difference is in the content. From quality papers people can read about serious topics. This kind of papers contain inportant issues and reflect different political views. Also quality papers have financial and sports news. But from popular papers contain more sensational stories and scandals. Secondly, quite big difference is in the price and the looks between those two papers. Quality papers are printed on large pages, have an undramatic layout and very simple desing. Althoush they look serious their price is not very low. But on the other hand tabloids aim to excite the reader visually, using techniques such as very large headlines and photos. Those newspape...
Arts related entertainment should be free It is quite an arguable question. Should arts related entertainment be free on not? There are some things why it should be free and some reasons why it cannot be free. On the one hand, a lot of people think that art especially art galleries and exhibitions are boring and actually do not know anything about it. They think that it is pointless to pay for something boring, so if art exhibitions would be free, more people would visit them and learn to evaluate art. Also art educates people and enlarges their knowledge. But on the other hand, keeping and taking care of exhibitons have so many expenses like hiring skilled staff or paying electricity bills that it is impossible not to pay for visiting art galleries. In addition to that being a artist is a job like every another one too and needs to be paid. Finally, I think it it better to decrease the prices of art gallerie...
Education: Some people say that students should study only those subjects they are interested in Im going to discuss if students should study only those subjects they are interested in or not. Nowadays students are quite lazy and do not want to study or go to school. They think it is boring and parents work really hard to make them study. Also, a lot of students think that the majority of the subjects they are learning are pointless. But actually none of those are pointless and every thing has a reason. In addition to that, if students could choose the subjects themselves, then some classes would be really empty. For example, a lot of students do not like maths or reading. Math develops logic and then we could imagine how many people would be without logical thinking. And reading books enriches vocabulary, so if people do not read books at all, their vocabulary would be quite small. On the ot...
Theatre: Theatre as compared to film and literature Im going to compare theatre to film and literature. There are some seally big differences between thatre and film or literature. Firstly the main difference between literature and theatre is that if you read a book, you have to imagine the whole image in your head and thus everybody sees one thing differently, but in theatre you have a real live picture in front of you. Also in books the feelings, thoughts and emotions are described better than in theatre performances. Secondly, in theatre performances you can only see one stage and one place but in movies the situations are depicted in various places, for example on streets and other places, which can not be depicted on a stage so easily. In addition to that, in books all the situations are decribed in very small details and that is a really big advantage of reading books. In movies and thatre all situations are...
Options after secondary school Im going to talk about different choices after secondary school. Firstly, a lot of students after graduating secondary school want to study more. There are two ways to continue your studies. The first choice is to continue the academic education in universities. It is the best way to educate yourself and later after graduation there will be some jobs with quite big salaries. The other way to continue your studies is to get vocational education. It includes different professions on technical field. It is a really great way to quarantee yourself a job, because after vocational school you have the necessary skills to work on certain job. In addition to that, there is one more option going to work. It is the best choice for some people who just do not want to study anymore or who do not know yet what to do with their lives. It gives them more time to figure out, who they wann...

The United Kingdom is an island located on the North-Western coast of continental Europe, while the United States of America is situated mostly in central North America where forty-eight states of it's 50 lie, with the exception of Alaska and Hawaii. The population in the UK is about 62 million people whilst in the US that number is about 300 million, making it the third largest country in the world by population. The languages in Britan and America are varieties of english and therefor very similar. The capital of England is London and the capital of America is Wachington D.C., formally the District of Columbia. Whilst the capital of Great Britain is also it's largest city, it is not so in the United States, where the biggest city is New York with a population of over 8 million and about 20 million if you count the metropolitan area (people living in the immediate surrounding area outside of t...
Survey Report To: My English class and teacher From: Subject: Upcoming Population Census The purpose of this report is to let you know about the statistics learned from a survey conducted by the research agency Factum & Ariko in October about the upcoming mandatory Census of Population and Housing. They questioned 500 people aged 1574 all over Estonia. 83% of Estonian's are aware of the upcoming Population and Housing Census and 95% consider the Census essential for Estonia. People consider the most important thing to be found out the real population number of Estonia (70% of people questioned) and the data collection about living conditions (37%). This shows people's interest and concern about the sustainability of Estonia. The electronic Population and Housing Census will take place during the first month of the Census and 2/3 of the people questioned are planning to use the opportunity to answer the questionnaires electronically. ...
British Cuisine Some people criticize English food. They say it's unimaginable, boring, tasteless, it's chips with everything and totally overcooked vegetables. The basic ingredients, when fresh, are so full of flavour that British haven't had to invent sauces to disguise their natural taste. What can compare with fresh pees or new potatoes just boiled and served with butter? Why drown spring lamb in wine or cream and spices, when with just one or two herbs it is absolutely delicious? If you ask foreigners to name some typically English dishes, they will probably say "Fish and chips" then stop. It is disappointing, but true that, there is no tradition in England of eating in restaurants, because the food doesn't lend itself to such preparation. English cooking is found at home. So it is difficult to a good English restaurant with a reasonable prices. In most cities in Britain you'll find Indian, Chinese, French and Italian r...

Silicon Valley Could you reproduce Silicon Valley elsewhere, or is there something unique about it? It wouldn't be surprising if it were hard to reproduce in other countries, because you couldn't reproduce it in most of the US either. What does it take to make a silicon valley even here? What it takes is the right people. If you could get the right ten thousand people to move from Silicon Valley to Buffalo, Buffalo would become Silicon Valley. That's a striking departure from the past. Up till a couple decades ago, geography was destiny for cities. All great cities were located on waterways, because cities made money by trade, and water was the only economical way to ship. Now you could make a great city anywhere, if you could get the right people to move there. So the question of how to make a silicon valley becomes: ...
LONDON London is the capital of England and the United Kingdom, the largest metropolitan area in the United Kingdom, and the largest urban zone in the European Union. London is located on the River Thames. The capital of England has been a major settlement for two millennia, its history goes back to its founding by the Romans, who called it Londinium. Since at least the 19th century, the name London has also referred to the metropolis developed around this core. The registered population of London is 7,825,200. However, Estonian's native language is English, many people also speak Cornish. Although, the city operates a system of bus, tube and train and also boats routes to all parts of London and also England, it's still not enough. Along the River Thames are House of Parlament, Westminster and many other places. There are many enourmous parks, like Hyde Park, Royal Park, Kensington Gardens, Re...
Having children while young In my opinion, having children while young is a bad thing, but there are some good thing also. It's a bad thing, because you can't finish school on time. Another point is that you don't have enough money to support the baby. Diapers are very expensive. You are not as experienced in the world, less wise so not only less wisdom to pass on to the kids, but less wisdom on effectively raising your children. You can't enjoy your young and single life, because you have do nurture your child. On the plus side you are much more energetic than some older parents. You will be younger when they grow up and move out, giving you more freedom earlier on. You will see more of their lives before you pass on. For example, many of my friend got a child when they were still in school and they are happy about the baby but also they are so sad because they dropped put of school to raise their kid. Last of all, havi...

Dear Mr Smith, I am writing in because of a problem I have with the new neighbour, David, who has moved in downstairs. Unfortunately, his habits seems to be different than mine. The issue is that David is a musician who plays his electric guitar very late night. I understand he is in a band and needs to practice but I think he can not do this in apartment. I work in home, so for me, it is important to have silence so I can concentrate on my work. But when David is playing all the time it is unable to get any of my works done, except when he is out. Sometimes I have been forced to leave the apartment and work at the library because of the guitar playing was disturbing. I would appreciate it if you could speak to David and ask him to turn down the volume on his guitar or else to use headphones. I have spoken to him about it, but he has not listen to me. I will let you know as soon as the situation gets better. Tha...
501 S Sapodilla Ave West Palm Beach FL 33401 Dear Sir/Madam, 14 May 2012 I am writing to ask you more about your school in America because I would like to become an exchange student there for a year. I am a 17-year-old girl from Estonia, cheerful, kind and hard-working. I love literature and arts; however, learning new ideas and cultures has always been my secret passion. There are many places I have been to and even more yet awaiting to be explored. I would like to know more about the location of your school, strengths and major subjects. Are there any accommodation possibilities such as staying with host families? It would be interesting to try it at least once in a lifetime. And one more question about the fees is there any extra pay for studies, books, uniform, etc? I look forward to your letter. Sincerely, [eesnimi perekonnanimi]
Having a job while studying Siin on minu nimi; 11klass Siin on kool, 30.05.2012 Many students nowadays prefer to have a job while studying or the other way around study while having a job. All that, just to support their hobbies/studies, gain experience or just to earn a bit more money. While there are many benefits, there is no good without the bad. Having a job especially while you are studying is great responsibility for a human being. It is difficult to keep both your job and studies up. Although there are good points, like earning money to support yourself, gaining work or life experience, learning more about how the world works something, that schools usually do not teach. Being practical with your time comes in handy whi...
Dear Sir or Madam I am writing to complain about International Friendship Club. The advertisement about the club was misleading in several ways. First of all, the advertisement said that the photograph of me and my family will be returned directly but I sent my photo a month ago and there hasn't been any return yet. It also claimed that I will receive the names and address of the people who will correspond with me whereas I got only two so far. To make matters worse the advertisement said that I will get letters from my six new friends but I have heard nothing about them. Finally, why did I get a bill although that service is supposed to be free for all students? Yours faithfully, Piret Elias
Old English ( 450-1100 AD) The invading Germanic tribes spoke similar languages, which in Britain developed into what we now call Old English. Old English did not sound or look like English today. Native English speakers now would have great difficulty understanding Old English. Old English was spoken until around 1100. Middle English (1100-1500) In 1066 William the Conqueror, the Duke of Normandy invaded England. The new conquerors brought with them a kind of French and there was a period where the lower classes spoke English and the upper classes spoke French. In the 14th century English became dominant in Britain again, but with many French words added. Modern English Early Modern English (1500-1800) Towards the end of Middle English the change in pronunciation started, with vowels being pronounced shorter and shorter. From the 16th century the British had contact with many peoples from around the world and many new words and phras...

Living in the countryside is boring A lot of people say that living in the countryside is boring, I think it depends on how creative people can be. In addition there are many young people, who live in the countryside and they are really pleased with their lives, because they know how to make living there interesting, in spite of the difficulties they are creating a children centre, where all the young people can come together. Nevertheless there are a lot of children who won't even bother to do something to change their lives, although they will probably just be whining to their parents how boring it is in the countryside. In my opinion, living in the countryside is awesome. I think that people, who live outside of big cities are more tolerant and friendly. To sum up I have lived in countryside all my life and I am not complaining. I have friends here and I can deal with my hobbies. On the other hand I am not denyin...
Friendship Friends are a very important part of most people's lives. Research shows that having quality relationships increases your likelihood of being happy - so it's good for your happiness to be a great friend and to have a group of close friends surrounding you too. A good friend might be someone who's there to provide support when times are tough, or someone you can rely on to celebrate a special moment with you. Friends might come and go in our life, they might make us laugh and cry, but most importantly they love us for who we are. It doesn't matter what a person looks like or what kind of clothes they wear, but it's what's on the inside that counts. It's the actions they take, no matter how big or small, to show us how much of a good friend they are, and being there for us no matter what, even when things get rough. Friends are always there for us, to laugh with us in the happy tim...
What are the biggest dangers to wild animals in Estonia? Wild animals in Estonia, like in many other places in the world, are in danger. Forest industry, agriculture and other human activities in the nature, as well as pollution, disturb and even endanger the life of wild animals. Firstly, big forest machines disturb animals. For example, in winter the machines disturb animals who hibernate in winter. As a result, animals can leave their habitations and go somewhere else where is quiter. In addition to disturbing animals, the forest industry endanger wild animals' lives. Some machines can simply kill some animals accidentally. Besides, there are some species which are rear in Estonian forests. These species should be protected. A further problem is poaching- although it is not a very big problem in Estonia, it affects the number of animals. There are, however, a lot of wild animals in ou...

Which will survive - a traditional paper book or an e-book? The e-book versus traditional paper book battle is becoming a hot topic nowadays. There are lots of arguments about the pros and cons of paper book and an e-book but which will survive? Firstly, a paper book is reasily portable and usually cheap. Also it does not harm your eyes that much. To read a paper book you will probably need a light source and obviously you are not carrying it always around. Furthermore you can not carry all your books with you all the time because they are just too heavy. Also paper books are not very environmental friendly. Secondly, an e-book has a lot of good qualities, for example, you can purchase a book every time you want in spite of going to the book store. Also, if you have a smartphone or a laptop you will always have your books with you, just in case you want to read. An e-book is also more environmental friendly. But an e-book has also...

Power Destroys Ideals Throughout the centuries people have fought for power. Leadership has been a reason for many wars and fights. For some people one of the most important things in life is to have power over everybody else. Very often those who become leaders destroy or forget about the ideals they had before and about the promises they made. G. Orwell's book "Animal Farm" is an excellent example of how easy it is to forget about the ideals. In his novel George Orwell pictures a human society through the animal farm. He uses exagerations which help to feel the atmosphere of spoiled society. Society ruined by dictators, false ideas and corruption. In the novel the animals are shown as the exagerated copies of human beings with all their characters, habits and feelings. The story took place on the farm where the animals led a rebellion against the human beings. The revolution was started by the pigs wh...

How terrorism has changed the world? Over the decades millions of people have died innocently and lost their homes and beloved ones. Many countries have been attacked by the terrorists. As a result it all affects world politics and global relationships. It can be said that after the 9/11 disaster in the United States we have extremely strict security control system. The traveling is much more proctected by plane. Moreover there is no hitchhiking anymore due to stricting the security checks. Even though it can't be said to the other types of transportation. Terrorism in the Internet has also decreased, whereas computer specialists develop better hardwares to avoid crimes in electronically. Furthermore people are more aware of the jeopardies in the Internet. Terrorism in religious countries is fairly nonsense. War between the two different beliefs will probably never end. Apart from the religious views, remaini...

Facebook is a social networking service, which was launched in February 2004. It is owned and operated by Facebook Inc. In September 2012 Facebook had over billion active users and more than half of them were also using Facebook on a mobile device. Facebook's latest research shows that the most popular mobile device used for visiting m.facebook.com is iOS and by the popularity the second most used device is Android. Using Facebook on your mobile device raises the potential of your account getting stealed. It is so because most of the users don't use safe connection so all your data is available to other users on the same network. So the very first thing you should do is to use safe connection by adding to the end of this word ,,http://" (which you can find in the beginning of every webpage) an ,,s" so the address should be like ,,https://". The second thing you can do is that if you own the Wi-Fi access point then you should definately...

Homosexual people marching the streets of Järva-Jaani. Today, i was walking home from school, and i saw four gay couples marching the streets of Järva-Jaani. I was very annoyed because of the noise they were making and crappy music they were playing. I hope Arto Saar will do something about it, because i do not think i could stand another day having to walk past them. People of Järva-Jaani, I hope that you will help me freeze out these gay couples before there will be more of them walking the streets of my hometown. The thing is that in my opinion gay couples shouldn't be aloud to be openly ,,gay". It's disgusting and it is against God's will, I hope they will burn in hell.
