US approach: try things out, see if they work: "trial and error" Planning a negotiation Negotiating Putting yourself into the other's shoes Adopting a "poker face" Outcomes: win/win; win/lose; lose/lose. Although a win/win outcome is most desirable, a win/lose result may not always be too bad. Keep the end of the N as open as possible- try to avoid being put in the position of having to reach a conclusion at a particular time. People tend to rush into unwise concessions if they are faced with a deadline. Preparation skills- it is rarely possible to be over-prepared. Defining objectives- preparation includes writing down measurable objectives for the N. Objectives must be SMART: specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, timely. Setting priorities- some objectives are always more important, both for you and the other party. Summarize, restate ideas. Never interrupt. Four stages: Prepare, Discuss, Propose and respond, Close
which obstructs financing. One actor should control DH from source to consumption. If the value chain is fragmented, contracts are required between the links. It increases risks and financing costs, like in the UK and Ireland, where DH is not established. There are few multi- family houses with central heating and it is expensive to build DH networks in built areas. Most French DH systems are operated according to long-term concessions by companies that sell electricity and gas. No strong actor provides unbiased DH support. In the Czech Republic, gas offers DH severe competition. Much DH is produced at the expense of electricity that is considered more valuable, and waste incineration is not popular. In Romania, DH consumption was reduced by one-half. Distribution losses are enormous. New less polluting plants are needed. Consortia from established DH countries could offer DH systems from fuel to customer if local

no direct role in the 1963 coup, but that it viewed the Ba'ath Party favorably and offered support after they had taken over. In 1966 Salam Arif, the leader of the new Ba'athist government, died and his brother, Abdul Rahman Arif, not a Ba'athist, assumed the presidency. Some believe that Robert Anderson, former secretary of the treasury under President Dwight D. Eisenhower, secretly met with the Ba'ath Party and came to a negotiated agreement according to which both the oil field concessions and sulphur mined in the northern part of the country would go to United States companies if the Ba'ath again took over power. In 1968, General Ahmed Hassan al-Bakr of the Ba'ath Party was installed as the new president. The US broke relations with Iraq in 1967. After al- Bakr seized power, relations remained severed for 16 years and the US made arms sales to Iraq illegal. In June 1972 all foreign businesses including the Iraq Petroleum Company were seized and

Tema tähtsamad tööd on: ,,Meditsiini kaanon", mis jäi meditsiini õpikuks sajanditeks ja ,,Raviraamat". Avicenna panus meditsiini oli eksperimenteerimise ja

amendments to it. Significant amendments may be made at committee stage. In some cases, whole groups of clauses are inserted or removed. However, almost all the amendments which are agreed to in committee will have been tabled by the Government to correct deficiencies in the bill, to enact changes to policy made since the bill was introduced (or, in some cases, to import material which was not ready when the bill was presented), or to reflect concessions made as a result of earlier debate. The Report stage known formally as "consideration", takes place on the Floor of the House, and is a further opportunity to amend the bill. Unlike committee stage, the House need not consider every clause of the bill, only those to which amendments have been tabled. Royal Assent A bill can start in either House, but in order for it to become an Act of Parliament both Houses have to agree on every detail. Only after that has happened can the bill
Abroad, he ended the war with Portugal (1653) and Holland (1654) and allied with France against Spain, defeating the Spanish at the Battle of the Dunes (1658). Cromwell died on 3 September 1658 in London. The Restoration When Cromwell died, he, his system of government and the puritan ethics that went with it had become so unpopular that the son of he executed king was asked to return and take the throne. So in 1660 Parliament offered to restore the monarchy if Charles would agree to concessions for religious toleration and a general amnesty. Charles was not as hard-headed as his father, and he agreed to the proposals. He returned to London on a wave of popular support to be crowned Charles II (1660-85). The Anglican church was restored. 22. Queen Victoria and her time. Victoria was the longest reigning British monarch and the figurehead of a vast empire. In keeping foreignization as the main strategy for their discourse, translators would make no concessions for their readers, either in terms of language or in terms of attenuation of culture shocks. This strategy would, no doubt, highlight the difference in cultural perception between the authors and the Romanian target readers

THREE METHODS OF IMPLEMENTING CHANGE These three methods are not procedural, meaning that you do the first, then the second and finally the third. They are either or methods. One simply decides which one to implement, and goes with it. The first method is one where diversity is accommodated within the present structure. No effort is made to change the structure since it is regarded as "normative," the "traditional" way things have always been done. The only difference now is that one makes concessions to "accommodate" dissenting and disgruntled groups, by introducing diversity modules. It tends to be paternalistic, and gives people a sense of, "Hey, be happy with what you got." The inclusion of students of color in schools and courses that are inclusive is an example of the first method. The approach here is to put new wrapping paper on the box. But its the same old box with a new covering. The old paradigm of exclusion is left in tact,
*Cecil Rhodes and the British expansion into the southern African interior Rhodes went to South Africa at the age of 17 and gained a huge fortune. He founded the De Beers company, gained the monopoly of mineral rights in the Southern Rhodesia. He was also the prime minister of the Cape Colony. Rhodes was given free hands in his project, the 'Cape to Cairo' railway. Britain refused to grant Southern Rhoesia independence. But as the blacks forced the white government to make concessions, the terms were negotiated in London and Rhodesia became an independent republic with a black government. *The Boer Wars 1880-1881, 1899-1902 were fought between the British empire and the two independent Boer republics, the Orange Free State and the South African Republic. The First Boer War was a relatively brief conflict in which Boer settlers successfully resisted a British attempt to annex the Transvaal, and re-established an independent republic. The

Evans (1982) makes concessions to Kripke but insists that the idea of a "name-using (social) practice" must be introduced as a further element. McKinsey (1976, 1978) has moved 62 Reference and referring further back toward the ancien régime. Further objections are made by Erwin, Kleiman and Zemach (1976) and Linsky (1977). · Salmon (1981) surveys semantic views of kind terms. Schwartz (1977) contains relevant papers. " "I can't believe he said that." Just remembering Cross's voice when he made that threat had my palms damp enough to leave steam on my glass. "What the hell is he into?" "Spanking's not deviant. Besides, he was going for missionary on the couch, so he's not averse to the basics." He fell into the couch, a brilliant smile lighting up his handsome face. "You're a huge challenge to a guy who obviously thrives on them. And he's willing to make concessions to have you, which I'd bet he's not used to. Just tell him what you want." I split the last of the wine between us, feeling marginally better with a bit of alcohol in my veins. What did I want? Aside from the obvious? "We're totally incompatible." "Is that what you call what happened on his couch?" "Cary, come on. Boil it down. He picked me up off the lobby floor, and then asked me to fuck. That's really it. Even a guy I take home from a bar has more going for him than that
