The Secret Life of Bees I watched the movie The Secret Life of Bees. I chose this movie because I am currently reading the book and I like the book very much. So I wanted to know if the movie is also good. The book was written by Sue Monk Kidd and the movie was a adapted version of it. As well as the book the synopsis is set in 1964 in South Carolina. The movie is mostly about a 14 year-old girl named Lily who is haunted by the memory of her late mother. And to escape the lonely and sad life that she has with her father she flees with Rosaleen and they fled to a town in South Carolina. There they start to work in the honey industry. Lily also meets Zach there. The movie was very interesting to me and a bit different form the book. I think that the casting was done great and many of the characters were exactly how I imagined them to be. The movie was really good and I would recommend it highly.

Global warming The problem of desertification increases every year. More and more fertile areas become useless. Seas, lakes and other bodies of water dry out. Desertification does not only have an effect on the dry areas but also influences the areas that aren't haunted by the lack of water and land. Desertification has an effect on all of us. It slows down the development of agriculture or puts a total stop to it. The poor living conditions of developing countries drive people to search food somewhere else. In addition to natural ways, humankind helps along to the process of desertification that eventually leads to global warming. The main reasons are the fast growth of the population and it's

In the moonlight, the house looked deserted. John whispered, "I think I remember somebody telling me that this house is haunted." "No way," Ben said, pushing open the gate. Suddenly, a strong gust of wind rustled the leaves and a loud crash came from the porch. Both friends jumped at the noise. "It's just the wind," Ben said a little shakily. Although Ben and John felt a little nervous, they walked slowly through the creaky front gate and up the long sidewalk. The old stairs creaked as they climbed onto the porch. Lying on the floor of

of raids from the Upper Town and had the street connecting the two Towns fortified with a wall and gatehouses. The new wall has become known as the Wall of Mistrust. During night all traffic between the Upper and Lower town was stopped and the gates were shut at 9pm. The Short Leg gate tower at the top of Lühike Jalg Street was created in 1454-56 and it connects Short Leg and Long Leg. It can be considered the most haunted spot in the Old Town, simply due to the number and persistence of reported incidents. Sightings have included a pair of monks, a woman in an old-fashioned dress, and even a fire-spitting dog. In the 1930s some local spiritualists made several attempts to contact the troubled spirit of a monk who had been the town executioner in his earlier life. They failed, perhaps because the monk's ghost must have spoken Latin.
"Does he? then why does he stay here? Why do not you persuade him to go away?" "Persuasion is not at command; but pardon me, if I cannot even endeavour to persuade him. I have myself told him that Miss Thrope is engaged. He knows what he is about, and must be his own master." So Henry refused to talk to his brother because he knew that Isabella was as guilty as him. Soon, Catherine left with the Tilney's for Northanger Abbey. She imagined the abbey to resemble the haunted ruins of the Gothic novels she loved but Northanger Abbey actually turned out to be quite dull although due to her overactive imagination Catherine conjured up different frightening pictures about the place. She became intrigued by the death of Henry's and Eleanor's mother and suspected their father, General Tilney of murdering her. She sneaked into the mother's old chamber but discovered nothing. She was caught by Henry who guessed her thoughts and became very angry.
and armour, and a particularly fine collection of portraits.Manus O'Cahan and Montrose fought a successful minor battle against the Covenant Army at Fyvie Castle on August 24th 1644. Following Victorian trends, the grounds and adjoining Loch Fyvie were landscaped in the 19th century. The American industrialist Alexander Leith bought the castle in 1885. It was sold to the National Trust for Scotland in 1984 by his descendants. The castle (like many Scottish castles) is said to be haunted. A story is told that in 1920 during renovation work the skeleton of a woman was discovered behind a bedroom wall. On the day the remains were laid to rest in Fyvie cemetery, the castle residents started to be plagued by strange noises and unexplained happenings. Fearing he had offended the dead woman, the Laird of the castle had the skeleton exhumed and replaced behind the bedroom wall, at which the haunting ceased.Today, the castle is open to tourists during the summer months.
This review is spoiler free for those who have not seen this film yet and so may not contain some plot points. Set in 1954 US Marshall Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) accepts the case of a missing woman who has escaped from a mental institute for the criminally insane. He is assigned a new partner Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo). Teddy though has another reason for accepting the case, to find a man he believes killed his wife. He is haunted by images of his past atrocities committed in World War II and by visions of his dead wife. As he investigates he becomes more and more sure that there is something sinister being kept secret on the island and more afraid that he may never escape. That probably doesn't really do the plot justice but I'm afraid if I say to much I'll give away the ending. The way that Scorsese has crafted this film is really remarkable. The scenes are layered in a

Fat Margaret at the beginning of the next century. At the beginning of the 16th century the wall was 2.35 km long and had 27 towers. The main part of the wall has survived till today. At present 1.8 km of the town wall and 26 towers have been preserved. The names of some of the towers are rather well-known - Tall Hermann, Kiek-in-de-Kök, Virgin Tower, Stable Tower, Sauna Tower. The towers are also connected with lots of ghost stories. Stable Tower was considered to be the most haunted one. Lower Town In the 13th century a large number of Germans settled at the foot of the Upper town, where they gradually built a free town of merchants and craftsmen the so-called Lower Town. It was laid out with three things in mind: the place had to serve as a fortress, and it had to have both a port and a marketplace. As a rule, people lived on the ground and first floors of a house. Goods were kept on the second or even the third floor. They were hoisted up with the help of pulleys
The name of the genre comes from the fact that the novels were often set in gothic castles or cathedrals. The colours red, black, grey and white are associated with the genre. The past as driving force – characters are often troubled or haunted by the past. No historical accuracy or time (“once upon a time…”); blend beauty with terror. Examples: Ann Radcliffe’s The Mysteries of Udolpho, Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, works of Clara Reeve, Harriet Lee and Charlotte Smith. Beginning of the 19th century – romanticism and realism
laugh and took my mind off Gideon. When the dance ended, Cary was there to take the next one. We danced very well as a couple because we'd taken lessons together. I relaxed into his hold, grateful to have him as moral support. "Are you enjoying yourself?" I asked him. "I pinched myself during dinner when I realized I was sitting next to the top coordinator for Fashion Week. And she flirted with me!" He smiled, but his eyes were haunted. "Whenever I find myself in places like this...dressed like this...I can't believe it. You saved my life, Eva. Then you changed it completely." "You save my sanity all the time. Trust me, we're even." His hand tightened on mine, his gaze hardening. "You look miserable. How'd he fuck up?" "I think I did that. We'll talk about it later." "You're afraid I'll kick his ass here in front of everyone." I sighed. "I'd rather you didn't, for my mom's sake."
The narrator's feverish in the man's identity symbolises human desire for selfdiscovery. Poe adored the idea of the Doppelganger, uses this motif to stress the complexity of human nature. Another Poe's favourite topic is the impossibility for the artist to escape from the practical world "William Wilson", something haunts the narrator to chase him from country to country, he's been haunted by himself. The theme of Death fascinated Poe. He's interested in death with all its horrors. "Berenice" a man digs out the body of his dead pride, pulls out her teeth. Metempsychosis the belief in the transmigration of the soul. "Ligea" a revenant (she has returned from earlier ages, centuries). Arabesque. Grotesque "The Mask of the Red Death". Other favourite themes and symbols are death and fleeting time(time runs fast) imply the inevitable triumph of death over mankind
a violent encounter with another lion who was menacing Pumbaa. However it turns out to be Nala, who has grown into a beautiful and powerful young lioness. Their love blossoms in a romantic duet. But Nala is on a mission. She tells him how Scar has tyrannized Pride Rock, enslaved the animals, and tried to take her as his mate. She pleads with him to return and take his rightful place as king. Haunted by his guilt and unsure of his strength, Simba hesitates. Like many heroes, he isn't eager to leave the pleasures of the SPECIAL WORLD. But his father's spirit appears (like the ghost of Hamlet's father in Act One of "Hamlet") and urges him to face his destiny. In Act Three, Simba shakes off his guilt, returns to Pride Rock, and confronts Scar. A fierce battle breaks out
.. that I'm the reason that you're here." "Yes, you are the reason." I frowned. "The reason I'm here -- alive." "Barely." His voice was just a whisper. "Covered in gauze and plaster and hardly able to move." "I wasn't referring to my most recent near-death experience," I said, growing irritated. "I was thinking of the others -- you can take your pick. If it weren't for you, I would be rotting away in the Forks cemetery." He winced at my words, but the haunted look didn't leave his eyes. "That's not the worst part, though," he continued to whisper. He acted as if I hadn't spoken. "Not seeing you there on the floor... crumpled and broken." His voice was choked. "Not thinking I was too late. Not even hearing you scream in pain -- all those unbearable memories that I'll carry with me for the rest of eternity. No, the very worst was feeling... knowing that I couldn't stop. Believing that I was going to kill you myself." "But you didn't." "I could have
avenged. The rest was anticlimax. Later in the day Hiryu was sunk, and the Japanese in turn got Yorktown. Yamamoto next day realized that he was beaten. He called off the invasion of Midway and retreated, keeping close to his cabin on the homeward voyage. The samurai chieftains canceled plans for further advances and shifted from offense to defense. The failure to destroy the American Navy knocked the keystone from Yamamoto's strategy, and his words to Prince Konoye before the war haunted him: "I must also tell you that, should the war be prolonged for two or three years, I have no confidence in our ultimate victory." And not only did American industrial strength rise up like a specter. Japan's lack of it meant that she would never recover from the loss of four big carriers. The 4th of June had doomed her. "Midway was essentially a victory of intelligence," Nimitz has written. "In attempting surprise, the Japanese were themselves surprised."
