time he can be quite reasonable. Holden´s mood swings and trastic changes of feelings could even could mean that he had somekind of bipolar disorder. He could literally hate a person in one second and love in the next. He criticises others alot for being phony. Only persone he really seemed to be fond of was his little sister Phoebe. The book has a slightly depressing undertone because Holdens thougts about the situation he was in and his surroundings were often very gloomy. The lousy hotel where he stayed was probably the gloomiest part of the book. The author uses slang and repeats often same words which is essentially quite similar to something that a teenager would do. This does not make, however, the text duller but makes it more lifelike. What surprised me was that even though it is about 60 years old but still alot of today's young people face similar problems as did Holden. Like not knowing what to do with one's life.
the damned which the justice of an offended God has called into existence for the eternal punishment of sinners. Hell is a strait and dark and foul-smelling prison, an abode of demons and lost souls, filled with fire and smoke. The straitness of this prison house is expressly designed by God to punish those who refused to be bound by His laws. In earthly prisons the poor captive has at least some liberty of movement, were it only within the four walls of his cell or in the gloomy yard of his prison. Not so in hell. There, by reason of the great number of the damned, the prisoners are heaped together in their awful prison, the walls of which are said to be four thousand miles thick: and the damned are so utterly bound and helpless that, as a blessed saint, saint Anselm, writes in his book on similitudes, they are not even able to remove from the eye a worm that gnaws it. The theme of the third movement grows out from the former. In fact it is only a motif but all that follows takes its cue from it. The clarinet in the low register creates an air of mystery: Example 47. On an alert and pulsating background an image of a belligerent force increasing in power is created. In the Finale the ruthless incessant pulsation has won its rights: in the background a gloomy, terrible drama is taking place… Only after the last fight is the depressing tension lowered: the tragedy has reached its fatal end. The strings reproduce the mystical atmosphere of the beginning. The general mood become conciliatory with the final chord in soothing B major… Only legends will survive.2 It is obvious that all the themes of the symphony are derived from a common source. In their development the inner unity is expressed. There are repetitions of a 1

vampire, a cliche´ that is strong enough to demonize the place (1999, p. 233). Such strong negative representations generate fears for the worst, and it is under such gloomy auspices that the first encounters with `the other' take place. For Murphy, the worst happens, indeed, at the very moment of the border crossing, making the beginning of her narrative a truly climactic (and shocking) one: her rucksack is stolen by the border mafia

Grotesque include a kind of grim, dark humour 2.Arabesque mostly horrors and strong emotions, fear. 3.Ratiocinative rational, logical analysis in reconstructing the order of events. Each category represented a different intention. He developed mastered, perfected stories. The short story of psychological effect. Tales of the grotesque and arabesque contains some of his most famous stories "The Fall of the House of Usher". Typical of a gothic story gloomy, dark, murky. The feeling of intolerable loneliness. One such story is "The Man of the Crowd" the secret of a man who seems to be strangely alienated from human fellowship, the narrator chases the man, still the man remains a mystery. The narrator's feverish in the man's identity symbolises human desire for selfdiscovery. Poe adored the idea of the Doppelganger, uses this motif to stress the complexity of human nature
It was seventy-five degrees in Phoenix, the sky a perfect, cloudless blue. I was wearing my favorite shirt -- sleeveless, white eyelet lace; I was wearing it as a farewell gesture. My carry-on item was a parka. In the Olympic Peninsula of northwest Washington State, a small town named Forks exists under a near-constant cover of clouds. It rains on this inconsequential town more than any other place in the United States of America. It was from this town and its gloomy, omnipresent shade that my mother escaped with me when I was only a few months old. It was in this town that I'd been compelled to spend a month every summer until I was fourteen. That was the year I finally put my foot down; these past three summers, my dad, Charlie, vacationed with me in California for two weeks instead. It was to Forks that I now exiled myself-- an action that I took with great horror. I detested Forks. I loved Phoenix. I loved the sun and the blistering heat
voice to Mr. Collins, was convinced that they were talking of the Longbourn estate, and resolving to turn herself and her daughters out of the house, as soon as Mr. Bennet were dead. She complained bitterly of all this to her husband. "Indeed, Mr. Bennet," said she, "it is very hard to think that Charlotte Lucas should ever be mistress of this house, that I should be forced to make way for her, and live to see her take her place in it!" "My dear, do not give way to such gloomy thoughts. Let us hope for better things. Let us flatter ourselves that I may be the survivor." This was not very consoling to Mrs. Bennet, and therefore, instead of making any answer, she went on as before. "I cannot bear to think that they should have all this estate. If it was not for the entail, I should not mind it." "What should not you mind?" "I should not mind anything at all." "Let us be thankful that you are preserved from a state of such insensibility."
At a conference early in June, Ludendorff learned that this concentration was running behind the schedule he had set for his next assault. His successes had strained his lines of transport, and he had been moving his guns and shells only under cover of night to preserve the invaluable advantage of surprise. And this advantage he had conserved superbly. The hints that drifted out to French G.H.Q. about his intentions were multiple, petty, and contradictory. Nothing would jell. Gloomy intelligence officers could reach no definite conclusions. Another attack was certainly in the offing, but unless they could ascertain its location, France might be lost. Into this dismal atmosphere on the morning of June 3 burst Guitard of the Service du Chiffre, excitedly waving an intercept. One of the G.H.Q. cryptanalysts, applying the keys that Painvin had sent there, had just read a cryptogram sent at 4:30 a.m., only a few hours earlier:
