Chernobyl disaster Outline • What happened? • Elimination of the consequences • The Exclusion Zone • Conclusion • Quiz • Reference list What happened? • The Chernobyl disaster was a catastrophic nuclear accident that occurred on 26 April 1986 at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine (then officially the Ukrainian SSR). An explosion and fire released large quantities of radioactive particles into the atmosphere, which spread over much of the western USSR and Europe. • The Chernobyl disaster was the worst nuclear power plant accident in history in terms of cost and casualties, and is one of only two classified as a level 7 event (the
get new job. Secondly, country gets huge income from successful company. Next, if factories uses recyclable material, it would save earths resources and also slow down global warming. On the other hand, there are some throwbacks as well. Firstly, companies which do not have experience with factories might produce an enormous amount of air pollution. Secondly, sophisticated combinations need highly educated experts, otherwise failure might cause chemical fires, which may lead to catastrophic disasters. What is more, new factories tend to start with cheap products which are produced with toxic chemicals and usually end up polluting our groundwater. In conclusion, there are clearly both marvelous and terrible sides to building new factories. Personally, I believe that building new factories is marvelous because it has positive affect on economy and also gives1 job for unemployed people, however building new factories has negative
wildlife, and humans. When scientists talk about the issue of climate change, their concern is about global warming caused by human activities. The increasing infrastructure instability is an important issue in relation to the influences of global climate change in urban areas. A serious issue pertaining to this is the dual nature of damage triggered by events combined with climate change and natural hazards. For example, catastrophic damage could result from the combination of global warming with a great earthquake, which is a worst-case scenario. Although this worst-case scenario has rarely occurred and presents a low probability of occurrence, countermeasures must be prepared in advance based on an appropriate response and adaptation strategies. After an overview of possible infrastructural instabilities caused by global warming, methodologies are proposed placing emphasis on the increasing
in 1713, Newfoundland, Hudson Bay, and Nova Scotia (Acadia) were lost to England. During the Seven Years' War (17561763), England extended its conquest, and the British general James Wolfe won his famous victory over Gen. Louis Montcalm outside Quebec on Sept. 13, 1759. The Treaty of Paris in 1763 gave England control. Nature: Canada is also geologically active, having many earthquakes and potentially active volcanoes. The volcanic eruption of Tseax Cone in 1775 caused a catastrophic disaster, killing 2,000 Nisga'a people and the destruction of their village in the Nass River valley of northern British Columbia; the eruption produced a 22.5-kilometre (14.0 mi) lava flow, and according to legend of the Nisga'a people, it blocked the flow of the Nass River. As of 2008, there are 36 National Parks and six National Park Reserves.. The biggest natural parks are Banff National Park, Gros Morne National Park of Canada, Wood Buffalo National Park of Canada and Prince Edward Island
It turns into a white dwarf about the size of Earth, aging and cooling indefinitely--unless it lies close enough to another star to steal its neighbor's outer layers of hydrogen. If enough material falls onto the white dwarf, the siphoned fuel ignites a thermonuclear explosion. As the detonation spreads, the entire star blows up in what is known as a type 1a supernova--a giant nuclear bomb. The supernova blossoming over Palomar was a different kind: not a thermonuclear blast but a star's catastrophic collapse. This is the only kind of supernova that can unleash a gamma-ray burst, and it is the inevitable fate of a star more than eight times as massive as the sun. Such heavyweight stars always lose their battle with gravity. With the crushing weight of the star's outer layers bearing down on its core, the fusion reactions don't stop at carbon. The star continues to cook lighter nuclei into progressively heavier elements, but each nuclear reaction runs its course faster
Moreover, many regions will face dwindling water supplies as the result of shrinking glaciers and snowpack, evaporation, and the infiltration of salt water. Acute food and water shortages will presumably bring about manifold health problems. To summarise the situation, having no visible manifestation, global warming has been affecting the earth for quite a while now; the effects of climate change, while not immediate, are potentially catastrophic. I would describe global warming as `an environmental time bomb ticking away.' Dear Sir/Madam, I am writing in the hope that you can help me with a problem regarding a camera that I have bought recently. On 24 April, I purchased a Canon digital SLR camera from a duty-free shop at Freetown Airport on my way from Freetown to Wondercity. The camera cost $599, and I paid for it by credit card.
human being as for the nature (see here , here or here ). The more nuclear power plants (and nuclear waste storage shelters) are built, the higher is the probability of a disastrous failure somewhere in the world. · Nuclear power plants as well as nuclear waste could be preferred targets for terrorist attacks. No atomic energy plant in the world could withstand an attack similar to 9/11 in Yew York. Such a terrorist act would have catastrophic effects for the whole world. · Radiation Radiation doses of about 200 rems cause radiation sickness, but only if this large amount of radiation is received all at once. The average person receives about 200 millirems a year from everyday objects and outer space. This is referred to as background radiation. If all our power came from nuclear plants we would receive an extra 2/10 of a millirem a year.
intercourse. Ceremonies included ritual bathing, separation from the main tribal group for varying periods of time and food taboos. The British In 1770, the Australian Aboriginals culture and way of life dramatically changed when Lieutenant James Cook took possession of the east coast of Australia and named it New South Wales. 9 The British colonisation of Australia began 18 years later, which was a catastrophic event for indigenous Australians. The Europeans spread epidemic diseases such as chickenpox, smallpox, influenza and measles. The British settlement then appropriated land and water resources from the Australian Aborigine, and were ignorant in their assumption that the semi-nomadic Aborigines could be driven off and made to live somewhere else. In fact, the loss of 'traditional lands,' food sources and
by Oliver Cromwell. King Charles I lost the war and was beheaded in London in 1649. Britain became a republic known as the Commonwealth. In 1660 London welcomed the restoration of the monarchy. The second half of the century was even more devastating. Two Disasters stroke London. The Great Plague and the Great Fire. The Great Plague in 1665, killed a significant part of the population, but it was not until after the Great Fire in 1666 that London became safe again. The Great Fire was even more catastrophic to the buildings of London. It destroyed almost four fifths of London in the raging inferno, including St Paul's Cathedral. Christopher Wren was appointed to oversee the rebuilding of London. Wren was given the task of rebuilding the churches, including St. Paul's Cathedral. Georgian London 1714-1837 In 1714, George I became king. At this time, Britain was one of the most powerful countries in the world. During the Georgian era London quickly grew in size and population. T V Westerns depict a villain trying to make a getaway, then being ridden down and tackled by the hero prior to a final fistfight or gun duel. Such scenes were a staple of the Roy Rogers and Lone Ranger serials and T V shows. As mentioned above, villains may steal back the treasure from the hero or make off with one of his team members. T h i s could lead to pursuit by the hero and rescue or recovery. SETBACKS Another twist of T h e R o a d Back may be a sudden catastrophic reversal of the hero's good fortune. T h i n g s were going well after surviving the Ordeal, but now reality sets in again. Heroes may encounter setbacks that seem to doom the adventure. W i t h i n sight of shore the ship may spring a leak. For a moment, after great risk, effort, and sacrifice, it may look like all is lost. T h i s moment in the story, the climax of Act Two, may be the Delayed Crisis spoken of earlier

One side may be for enciphering, the other for deciphering. Studying the papers, police noticed a number of oddly worded announcements. When they inserted similar advertisements, using the same identifying words, they received responses from several people who turned out to be Red agents. Eventually a ring that operated in five cities was broken up and four Communist satellite diplomats declared persona non grata. The most catastrophic instance of the eggshell ciphers of local Communists took place in Iran. On the night of August 16, 1954, Iranian security police arrested Ali Ab-basi, a former Army captain who had come under suspicion because of his activities in the Red Tudeh party. In the suitcase he was carrying as he came out of a house in Teheran, they found a complete plan of Shah Mohammed Reza Pahlevi's summer palace, showing guard posts and the number of men
