The Crow Tribe

The Crow Indian Reservation in south-central Montana is a large reservation covering approximately 2,300,000 acres (9,300 km2) of land area, the fifth-largest Indian reservation in the United States. The reservation is primarily in Big Horn and Yellowstone counties with ceded lands in Rosebud, Carbon, and Treasure Counties. The 2000 census reported a total population of 6,894 on reservation lands. Its largest community is Crow Agency. Traditional Crow shelters are tipis made with bison skins stretched over wooden poles. The Crow are historically known to construct some of the largest tipis. Inside the tipi, mattresses and buffalo-hide seats were arranged around the edge, with a fireplace in the center. The smoke from the fire escaped through a hole in the top of the tipi. Many Crow families still own and use the tipi, especially when traveling. The annual Crow Fair has been described as the largest gathering of tipis in the world.

drinking alchol or what is even worse, some people get into drugs and it causes them furthermore problems. It is heartbreaking to watch young people who have lost their home and gotten into drugs or alcohol. Linda Lingle once said: „We have come dangerously close to accepting the homeless situation as a problem that we just can't solve.“ But i think it is not true because nowadays more and more people are trying to help homeless people. There are shelters for homeless people where they can sleep, get hot food and wash themselves. But there are more places where homeless people can go, like some associations who deal with homeless people, churches, who offer clothes and organize events for them like christmas and also soup kitchens. In conclusion i would like to say that every people are equal in this world and we should all help those who are in need no matter what. If we all try just a little bit trying to make the world

Essee, Homelessness

Many people do not want the homeless to be apart of the same social circle. People are embarrassed of the homeless because of the many stereotypes that they have been given. It is time we stop ignoring the homeless and treating them as if they do not exist. Government must play a better role in helping these individuals that do not have a home. Social workers must find different means for helping the homeless. Permanent residence facilities should be considered instead of temporary shelters. Job programs for the homeless must concentrate on getting these people out of the streets and into the workplace so they can make something of themselves and not rely on the government just to give them what they need. Society must stop fearing these people and realize that they are humans just like all of us. No one deserves to be homeless.

standing there. "Why are you standing there? Come in, quickly!" I demanded. "Where were you? Where are mum and dad?" I asked anxiously. "I was in the toilet and suddenly I felt the house shaking. I called for mummy but nobody was there. I got scared so I crabbed my Teddy and run here, like I am taught to do." "You did good, you were very brave!" I praised her and gave her a comforting hug. I had to find out where my parents were. I taught my sister how to open and close the shelters' hatch and ordered her to stay there and wait for my return. Again, I swallowed the fear and run. I was headed back to the house, when I heard our dog Bingo howling in his kennel. Instantly I was on my way to save him. I took him into my arms and hurried back to the shelter. My sister was so happy to see me and Bingo, but her face changed. "You are going away again, aren't you?" she burst into tears. "I have to find them. Don't worry, I'll be back. Besides, now you have Bingo with you," I

Massachusetts Bay Company and establish Boston, which was to grow as a major port. Despite the privations of 1620, the Puritans founded colonies that thrived and their success depended on fishing, shipbuilding, trade and farming. Unfriendly natives were not the Pilgrims' only problem. December was a bad time to start a settlement, especially when so many of them were too sick to do the hard work which founding the settlement required . The minority who were fit enough erected shelters near the beach at Cape Cod for a start, and then set about reconnoitring the hinterland for sustenance. Had it not been for friendlier native Americans who taught them their skills, the Pilgrims might never have survived. The natives acted as guides through the forests and taught the colonists woodcraft, trapping, hunting, how to make maple sugar, moccasins and birch-bark canoes and how to raise crops of maize and tobacco. They also introduced the colonists to the turkey, which was native to

their address. Because homeless people usually have no place to store possessions, they often lose their belongings, including their identification and other documents, or find them destroyed by police or others. Without a photo ID, homeless persons cannot get a job or access many social services. They can be denied access to even the most basic assistance: clothing closets, food pantries, certain public benefits, and in some cases, emergency shelters. Obtaining replacement identification is difficult. Without an address, birth certificates cannot be mailed. Fees may be cost-prohibitive for impoverished persons. And some states will not issue birth certificates unless the person has photo identification, creating a Catch-22. This problem is far less acute in countries which provide free-at-use health care, such as the UK, where hospitals are open-access day and night, and make no charges for treatment

In March 1939, Britain announced that it would be supportive to Poland when Germany would invade it, but German invaded anyway. Hitler and Stalin had secretely signed an agreement dividing up Poland between the two powers. On 3rd September 1939, when many people were already preparing for war, Neville Chamberlain, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom at that time, broadcast to the nation, announcing the declaration of war in Germany from Britain. People dig air-raid shelters, or sew blackout curtains. In May 1940, when Winston Churchill replaced Neville Chamberlain as Prime Minister got Britain a more aggressive war-time leader. In 1942 Roosevelt and Churchill agreed to make defeating Germany their first priority. After three more years, in 1945, Germany surrendered unconditionally. As a result for Britain - Great Britain lost over 300,000 fighting men and over 60,000 civilians in WWII. Sources http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/kenanderson/histempsequel/ http://www

Inuit Culture

Changes to Inuit Life during the 20th Century Inuit a century ago lived very differently than Inuit today. Before the 1940s, Inuit had minimal contact with Europeans. Europeans passed through on their way to hunt whales or trade furs but very few of them had any interest in settling down on the frozen land of the Arctic. So the Inuit had the place to themselves. They moved between summer and winter camps to always be living where there were animals to hunt. In winter camps they lived in snow shelters called igloos. In summer camps they lived in tents made of animal skins and bones. But that changed. As World War II ended and the Cold War began, the Arctic became a place where countries that didn't get along were close to each other. The Arctic had always been seen as inaccessible, but the invention of airplanes made it easier for non-Arctic dwellers to get there. Permanent settlements were created in the Arctic around new airbases and radar stations built to watch out for rival nations

It is technically impossible to build a plant with 100% security. A small probability of failure will always last. The consequences of an accident would be absolutely devastating both for human being as for the nature (see here , here or here ). The more nuclear power plants (and nuclear waste storage shelters) are built, the higher is the probability of a disastrous failure somewhere in the world. · Nuclear power plants as well as nuclear waste could be preferred targets for terrorist attacks. No atomic energy plant in the world could withstand an attack similar to 9/11 in Yew York. Such a terrorist act would have catastrophic effects for the whole world. · Radiation Radiation doses of about 200 rems cause radiation sickness, but only if this large

While there, during the middle period of the war, it consisted of about 200 staff members—20 to 25 mathematical crypt-analysts, probably the same number of linguistic crypt-analysts, the rest clerks and support staffers. Later it grew to 300. Heavy bombings—the workers had to spend nearly every night in air- raid shelters—forced still another move in the summer of 1944. The linguistic branch moved 150 miles southeast to Hirschberg in Silesia, where they installed themselves in another school; the mathematicians moved to the nearby town of Hermsdorf. The odyssey of Pers z did not end even there, however. In February, 1945, the advance of the Russians compelled each group to move about 150 miles west. The mathematicians evacuated to Zschepplin Castle, near Eilenburg, about 80 miles south of Berlin
