Music and Theatre), graduating in 1963. He was influenced by medieval and Renaissance music. He became a popular composer during the 1960's. In 1976 Pärt created his signature tintinnabuli style. His best known works are Für Alina and Spiegel im Spiegel. In 1980, Pärt left Soviet Estonia in search of creative freedom in Vienna, and later Berlin. Some Facts He was known for his self-invented compositional technique tintinnabuli. His tintinnabuli technique resembled the ringing of bells and was best displayed in his composition "Spiegel im Spiegel" from 1978. He translated the style of minimalism into sacred music, composing well-known instrumental works that became a part of the New Simplicity movement. He was the most performed contemporary composer in the world in 2011, 2012, and 2013. of Tasmania. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vqCCI1ZF7o • The thylacine was able to open its jaws to an unusual extent: up to 120 degrees. This capability can be seen in part in David Fleay's short black-and- white film sequence of a captive thylacine from 1933. The jaws were muscular but weak and had 46 teeth. • The thylacine held the title of Australia's largest predator until about 3500 years ago. • The thylacine resembled a large, short-haired dog with a stiff tail which smoothly extended from the body in a way similar to that of a kangaroo. • Its yellow-brown coat featured 13 to 21 distinctive dark stripes across its back, rump and the base of its tail, which earned the animal the nickname “tiger". • Its body hair was dense and soft, up to 15 mm (0.6 in) in length; in juveniles the tip of the tail had a crest. found in Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Turkey, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Caucasus, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan until it apparently became extinct in the 1970s. Of all the tigers known to the world, the Caspian tiger was the third largest. The body of this subspecies was quite stocky with strong legs, big wide paws and unusually large claws. The ears were short and small. Around the cheeks the Caspian tiger was generously furred and the rest of its fur was long and thick. The colouration resembled that of the Bengal tiger. It assumebly became extinct in 1970. *CAVE LION: The cave lion, also known as the European or Eurasian cave lion, is an extinct subspecies of lion known from fossils and a wide variety of prehistoric art. This subspecies was one of the largest lions. An adult male, which was found in 1985 near Siegsdorf (Germany), had a shoulder height of around 1.2 m and a length of 2.1 m without a tail, which is about the same size as a very big modern lion

more important than family and a marriage. Torvald and Nora's relationship was doomed to fail as Torvald embraced being accepted in his community more so than keeping his wife safe. Nora would inevitably have the realization that her marriage was flawed, and her true, strong nature was revealed as she left her superficial life for the unknown. Her change of character contrasts with her initial character and the title of the play, which both resembled perfection and happiness. Nonetheless, as Torvald had said, "an exit should always be effective"(1142). Work Cited Ibsen, Henrik. "A Doll House" Literature: Approaches to Fiction, Poetry, and Drama. 2nd ed. Robert DiYanni. It is difficult to say when the term submarine sandwich was first used for these types of large sandwiches. Although it is quite obvious that the sandwich got its name because of its long shape that resembles submarines, there are several myths around the origin of the term. The first theory is that at the beginning of World War II a sandwich was specifically created in a restaurant in Scollay Square in Boston to appeal to the mean serving at Charlestown Navy Yard. Because it resembled a submarine for its shape, people began to call them “submarine sandwiches”. According to another version, the sandwich was created during World War II by an Italian shopkeeper named Benedetto Capaldo in New London, CT. When the navy servicemen from the submarine base in the town of Groton across the river began ordering 500 sandwiches a day, the sandwich became irrevocably associated with submarines. The third popular theory claims that the term comes from Dominic Conti, an Italian who

Barbican Centre The Barbican takes its name from the ancient fortifications that used to surround the City. (A barbican is a watchtower that hangs upon a gate.) It remained an upper-class part of town for much of the 17th-century, but by Victorian times the working class had taken over. Due to its proximity to the docks, it suffered plenty of punishing raids in the Blitz German bombs demolished a third of the buildings. When the armistice came in 1945 the area north of St. Paul's resembled a square mile of rubble. The high cost of reconstruction work delayed the diggers for a decade, and it wasn't completed until 1982. The resulting wash of concrete has been much derided down the years, but the original plans were of considerable note. They planned 2,000 apartments for 6,500 people some in tower blocks over 400-foot high (the tallest in Europe at the time). They also included a Museum of London, the Guildhall School of Music, and a fully-featured arts centre

Frosty. The low-budget crudely made film featured prototypes of the main characters of South Park, including a character resembling Cartman but named "Kenny", an unnamed character resembling what is today Kenny, and two near-identical unnamed characters who would resemble Stan and Kyle. FOX executive Brian Graden saw the film and in 1995 commissioned Parker and Stone to create a second short film that he could send to his friends as a video Christmas card. Titled Jesus vs. Santa, it resembled the style of the later series more closely, and featured a martial arts duel and subsequent truce between Jesus and Santa Claus over the true meaning of Christmas.[8] This video was later featured in the episode "A Very Crappy Christmas" in which Stan, Kyle, Cartman, Kenny, and Mr. Hankey "save" Christmas for the town. The video was popular and was widely shared, both by duplication and over the Internet. This led

differences in consumers, demographics, and world markets. • Companies who have done this very well include Coca-Cola, who discovered that the word ‘Diet’ carries a negative connotation in Latin America and changed the name of their zero-calorie product to ‘Coke Lite’ for those countries. International marketing is the application of marketing principles in more than one country, by companies overseas or across national borders. International marketing is based on an extension of a company’s local marketing strategy, with special attention paid to marketing identification, targeting, and decisions internationally.

At present, Paula is working with the cinnamon gene in Himalayans; though the gene should have been present in Siamese cats used to develop the Himalayan, it does not seem to hve shown up in the Himalayn breed and breeders may have to introduce it using out-crosses to Persians. For a while in the 1950s there was a French breed known as the Khmer. It resembled a semi- longhair colourpoint and was apparently overtaken by the Himalayan. "La Vie a Campagne", 1935 dated Khmers back to the 1920s and the photographs resembled early Colourpoint Persians. The story goes that a pair was taken to Paris and abandoned there by a returned serviceman from Indochina. By 1935, this strain of Khmer had evidently almost petered out. The French Khmer is also been described as a bootee-less Birman-type cat. The Khmer is

This script was the ancestor of the `Times New Roman' font we find on our computer screens today. Another feature familiar to computer users is `italics'. Initially, characters written by hand resembled the carved letters, but gradually scholars began to change the form of their writing, slanting letters and connecting them. The credit for inventing Roman script using capitals and small letters goes to Aldus Manutius of Venice, in 1495 AD. The old Roman capitals and Greek letter forms were thus transformed into the twenty- six alphabet letters that we know today, with both upper and lower-case letters in common use by the end of the sixteenth century.

tombs of the venerated dead multiplied, these transformations grew more complicated, more contrived, and more common. Eventually the scribes were replacing the usual hieroglyphic form of a letter, like the full-face mouth representing /r/, by a different form, like a profiled mouth. Sometimes they used new hieroglyphs whose first sound represented the letter desired, as a picture of a pig, "rer," would mean /r/. Sometimes the sounds of the two hieroglyphs differed but their images resembled one another. The horned asp, representing HI, was replaced by the serpent, representing /z/. And sometimes the scribes used a hieroglyph on the rebus principle, as in English a picture of a bee might represent b; thus a sailboat, "khentey," stands for another Egyptian word khentey, which means "who presides at"—this latter being part of a title of the god Amon, "he who presides at Karnak." Stanton wouldn't be a bazillionaire if he didn't know everything." Cary caught my hand and tugged me over. "Come on. Take a look." I pushed through the revolving door of the Crossfire into the lobby ten minutes before nine the next morning. Wanting to make the best impression on my first day, I'd gone with a simple sheath dress paired with black pumps that I slid on in replacement of my walking shoes on the elevator ride up. My blond hair was twisted up in an artful chignon that resembled a figure eight, courtesy of Cary. I was hair-inept, but he could create styles that were glamorous masterpieces. I wore the small pearl studs my dad had given me as a graduation gift and the Rolex from Stanton and my mother. I had begun to think I'd put too much care into my appearance, but as I stepped into the lobby I remembered being sprawled across the floor in my workout clothes and I was grateful I didn't look anything like that graceless girl

Given the availability of such accounts, there is no reason to accept Davidson's purely causal theory. The Naive Simile Theory Philosophers beginning with Aristotle have noticed a striking similarity between metaphors and similes: It seems that both metaphors and similes express or invite comparisons of their topics to something a bit unexpected. Simon was like a rock, Juliet is like the sun in one or more respects, and Edward IV resembled the sun in perhaps a different way. This suggests an even closer kinship: the idea that a metaphor is just an abbreviated simile. According to the Naive Simile Theory in particular, a metaphor derives from the corresponding simile by ellipsis. Thus, (1) is short for "Simon is like a rock," and (2) is short for "Juliet resembles the sun." (3) is considerably trickier since, although its grammatical subject can be translated as "Our discontent, which is like a winter," the concluding referent

I sat quietly, dazed, my thoughts incoherent. My hands were folded in my lap, and I was leaning weakly against the back of the seat. He still had his face in his hand, and he was as still as if he'd been carved from the stone his skin resembled. Finally he looked up, his eyes seeking mine, full of his own questions. "Are you ready to go home?" he asked. "I'm ready to leave," I qualified, overly grateful that we had the hour-long ride home together. I wasn't ready to say goodbye to him. One lesson I learned stands out: Always do the minimum--the simplest, easiest experiment that will make progress. Few professional scientists seem to know this. Finally, as I mentioned earlier, self- experimentation is much more sensitive to unexpected side effects. 2. Stone Agelike treatments are easy to test. I repeatedly found that simple environmental changes, such as avoiding breakfast and standing more, had big and surprising benefits. In each case, the change I'd made resembled a return to Stone Age life, when no one ate breakfast and everyone stood a lot. There are plenty of reasons to think that many common health problems, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and cancer, are caused by differences between modern life and Stone Age life. Modern life and Stone Age life differ in many ways, of course; the life and Stone Age life. Modern life and Stone Age life differ in many ways, of course; the fraction of differences that influence our health is probably low
