Dear Hanna, Hi! How are you? I would love to see you, we should go out someday. Anyway, i've finally got some time to write a letter and tell you something about my holiday. It was amazing, I think you would love it too! I went to Capo Verde and we stayed in a lovely hotel. It had everything you needed restorants, shops, tennis coarts, sea etc. The rooms were also beautiful: big bathrooms and every bedroom had a balcony and huge bed. We tooked a road trip all over the island. We saw Blue eye, sharks and the saline. The best thing of these were the sharks, it was scary but also amazing.

to go out to find entertainment in other places. They don't have to pay for expensive seats at the theatre or cinema. They turn on the TV-set and can watch interesting films, concerts, football matches. But some people think that it's bad to watch TV. Those who watch TV need do nothing. We are passive when we watch TV. Television shows us many interesting programmes. But again there is a disadvantage here: we watch TV every evening, and it begins to dominate our lives. My friend told me that when his TV-set broke down, he and his family found that they had more time to do things and to talk to each other. There are other arguments for and against television. Very often the programmes are bad. Sometimes they show too much violence in films and news programmes. There is also too much pop music and ads. Ads on the whole are convenient for grown-ups. But is it good for children to watch all those ads where they show all kinds of underwear and what not? Questions: 1

I do not visit the cinema often, because I do not like these commercial films, they show there. I do not watch the TV much either, because I do not have time for that. To tell you the truth, I do not have my favourite film. I like best some `freak films' which are maybe a little weard and most people probably would not like these. I am a little odd myself, so ...

Suhted laste ja vanematega

S Yes, I think so. T But teenagers do get leisure time as well, don't they? S They do, but the problem is, teenagers often have very little cash to spend. So in the small amount of time that they get for leisure, they usually don't have enough money to enjoy themselves. As a result, they end up getting bored in their free time! T I see. It all sounds very depressing ... S And finally, teenagers do not have independence. For instance, if I want to go and stay with a friend, I have to ask permission first. Teenagers have to live according to the rules that are made by adults. That's why I firmly believe that a person's teenage years are more difficult than other stages in life. 67 Students' own answers 3G Description of a person page 28 1 girl a, boy d 2 (Possible answers) 1 boy d 2 girl c 3 girls b and c 4 boy f 5 girls b and c 6 girl c 3 Students' own descriptions 4 artistic creative shrewd clever
