Her books on children are loved all around the globe. Pippi Longstocking, one of the most loved books, has been translated into 60 languages. It has sold over five million copies in the United States alone. This character was created after the birth of her daughter, Karin. A number of people objected to this character as she was portrayed to be dangerous. Her debut in writing was made at a time when women were mostly involved with domestic work or engaged in stuff like embroidery. Astrid disregarded the barriers that came her way and went straight to strike for what she believed in. Pippi jumped right into the world of boys and grown-ups without any permission. She was bold and gave her opinion on anything to anyone. Pippi would never just sit and wait for her prince charming to come riding on his white stallion. She had her own horse. Lindgren has also challenged conservative codes of children’s literature in later works. Her novel The Brothers Lionheart brought up the taboo of the

chunk of its debt at just 35 cents on the dollar. Old Ecuador hand Hans Humes, of Greylock Capital, summed up how spectacularly successful the Ecuador strategy was, calling it “one of the most elegant restructurings that I’ve seen” . Countires next clever step was to pay cash for its defaulted bonds, rather than trying to do a bond exchange (Salmon, 2009). Ecuador, country that is the first debtor with the ability to pay, disregarded that the external debt service as a percentage of Ecuador's government revenues used to be extremely high. Since the debt default in 2008, Ecuador has relied mostly on credits from China for financing needs. Ecuador's Finance Minister Fausto Herrera announced in early July that Ecuador is seeking as much as $ U.S. 1.4 billion in order to bankroll this year's budget. The Ecuadorian government created the Programa de Finanzas Populares in 2008. A program that is supposed to expand

Britain history.

The Industrial Revolution The Industrial Revolution began in the second half of the 18th century in which industry was transformed from hand-work at home to machine-work in factories. By 1800 Britain was the most industrialized country in the world. It was rich in coal, iron ore and wool and new methods of farming meant that England could produce enough food to feed herself and export some as well. However, the working conditions were brutal and unhealthy, safety was disregarded and there was a lot of environmental pollution. Travelling and communications were improved. Many canals and railways were built; telegraph lines, magazines and newspaper provided people with steady flow of information. The population of Britain rose from 8 million to 14 million. The largest and richest city in Europe was London, with a population of around a million. It was also an important financial centre.

Law-makers breaking the law: torture as a justified interrogation technique?

Should a government then always act according to law or is it justified to in case of emergency set the laws aside? Is it possible to choose between two evils? Unlawfulness In a constitutional state there are rules the executive power needs to follow and that can sometimes make fighting terrorism inconvenient. Methods perceived as effective are not legitimate. Utilitarian thinkers believe this can be disregarded as to avoid a greater evil, authorities inevitably have to break the law. Michael Ignatieff (2004) states that governments needn't follow national and international law as precisely in case violating this law will avoid bigger crimes. “Sticking too firmly to the rule of law simply allows terrorists too much leeway to exploit our freedoms. Abandoning the rule of law altogether betrays our most valued institutions. To defeat evil, we may have to traffic in evils: indefinite detention of

In January, 2011, the moratorium's term expired and big investors got a good opportunity to broaden their economic presence in the country. The President's Edict No. 107 adopted in March, 2011 interrupted purchase of shares by the investor from employees. City executive committees got the pre-emptive right to purchase of employees' shares. The provision applied to relations starting from January 1, 2011. That meant it actually disregarded the universal principle of non-retroactivity of law. Using the edict's retroactivity, city executive committees wanted to get back the shares that Novikov had bought from Spartak and Kommunarka employees. On 22 August 2012 the High Economic Court of Belarus satisfied the State Property Committee's claims with regard to both companies. Under the decision, the state's share was going to increase by means of additional stock issuance. Shareholders tried to resist the judgments

revealed so far during this study as well as its analysis concerning the bands and orchestras active in Estonia and defining themselves as jazz players during this period. Main attention has been focused on the creation and development of jazz orchestras and jazz bands; first of all, their members and instruments, their repertoire and stylistic trends. This study covers also a unique aculturation phenomenon disregarded so far by both folk music and jazz researchers. It could be defined as popular or folk music with some jazz-like features. The author of this work has called this phenomenon “village jazz”. Special attention has been paid to the development of jazz under the difficult conditions of occupations and wars in 1940–1945. An analysis is made of the direct and indirect impact of jazz-hating occupation regimes on the development of jazz music and jazz orchestras.

There are no allusions to faith or hope. But his creative idea of illustrating one of the most tragic events of our time has been realised. possession of a most valuable living, had it pleased the gentleman we were speaking of just now." "Indeed!" "Yes--the late Mr. Darcy bequeathed me the next presentation of the best living in his gift. He was my godfather, and excessively attached to me. I cannot do justice to his kindness. He meant to provide for me amply, and thought he had done it; but when the living fell, it was given elsewhere." "Good heavens!" cried Elizabeth; "but how could that be? How could his will be disregarded? Why did you not seek legal redress?" "There was just such an informality in the terms of the bequest as to give me no hope from law. A man of honour could not have doubted the intention, but Mr. Darcy chose to doubt it--or to treat it as a merely conditional recommendation, and to assert that I had forfeited all claim to it by extravagance, imprudence--in short anything or nothing. Certain it is, that the living became vacant two years ago, exactly as I was of an age to hold it, and
