All at once his position had shifted and he knew something awful had happened." Right before the race Vronsky goes to see Anna and learns of the pregnancy. Anna is astounded at Vronsky's reaction--he tells her she should come live with him and leave her husband and son once and for all. He proves that he knows her well when he tells her she is suffering from the guilt of society and her family, and she can never really be a whole person again unless she detaches herself from those forces. "He vividly recalled all the constantly recurring instances of inevitable necessity for lying and deceit, which were so against his natural bent. He recalled particularly vividly the shame he had more than once detected in her at this necessity for lying and deceit. And he experiences the strange feeling that had sometimes come upon him since his secret love for Anna. This was a feeling of loathing for something--

problems, was conserned with corruption and society. Perhaps the most famous piece is ,,The winter of our discontent". The novel that helped him receive the nobel prize for literature. He did not receive it for this novel alone but all the work. The very end of his life, in the 1960's he wrote non fiction. ,,Travels with Charlie"-his puudle. Very uneven author. Elements of style. Unlike naturalists his style is more poetic, he uses some of the devices of folk tales. Such as repetition. Description of nature are terse-charged with imagery. Ancient greek tragedy, his characters are not kings, warrior , gods, his characters are simple people. Even humble, poor, illiterate people may have their own personal tragedys. You dont have to be king to experience tragedy. His books are very muc based on dialogue. The situation of the characters are very often explained through conversation. His texts are rather easily adapted to the stage and for the cinema. ,,Grapes of wrath"- the major breakthrough

Character analysis Lord Emsworth: Quotes: 1) "Beach," said Lord Emsworth. "M'lord?" "I've been swindled. This dashed thing doesn't work." "Your lordship cannot see clearly?" "I can't see at all, dash it. It's all black." The butler was an observant man. "Perhaps if I were to remove the cap at the extremity of the instrument, m'lord, more satisfactory results might be obtained." "Eh? Cap? Is there a cap? So there is. Take it off, Beach." "Very good, m'lord." "Ah!" 2) "It's Aggie. My wife, you know." "Well?" "She's left me." "Left you!" "Absolutely flat." 3) "Why did you let him go? You must have known I would want to see him." "What good would that have done?" "I could at least have assured him of my sympathy," said Lady Constance stiffly. "Yes, I suppose you could," said Lord Emsworth, having considered the point. "Not that he deserves any sy

Friends and Friendship I have several friends. But my best friend is Anette. Anette is a little younger than i am- 14. I first met Anette when i was 8 years old, but we didnt become friends at first. Our fathers used to work together, so we first met each other in my fathers office. We became friends about 3 years ago, when Anette came to my traning group. It had been 3 years since we last saw each other so i didnt recognize her at first, and Anette did not recognize me either. So we bacame true friends without knowing that we had known each other for many years already. We found out that our fathers are friends about two yeas ago, when they met each other in one of our competitons and later asked us if we knew that they used to work together. The thing I most like about Anette is her character. Our characters just fit together and we have almost nerver been in a fight. Anette is that kind of girl who tells you exactly what she thinks- honest. But she

different now. Children have more freedom to make their own decisions. For example, children aged 13 may be employed part time in Great Britain. Age 15 is legally a "young person" not a "child". Age 16 is a school leaving age. They can leave home, drive a moped, marry with "parents' consent" buy beer. Age 17 can drive a car. Age 18 can vote, get married, drink in pubs. Education is a very important part in the life of British youth. One can't become an independent person without it. When time comes to enter a college a young Englishman chooses one far away from home. It is a necessary part of becoming adult. During the last 30 years there were a lot of different trends in youth movements. All of them were characterized by their own philosophy, way of life, style of dressing. Each tendency was born by the influence of economic and political changes in the society. Those trends are known as the "hippies" the "punks" the "rockers".
