Around 90% are identified as Muslim.Religion plays a central role in most Egyptians' lives.Cairo is famous for its numerous mosque minarets and is justifiably dubbed "the city of 1,000 minarets", [96] with a significant number of church towers. (Culture)Egyptian culture has six thousand years of recorded history. Ancient Egypt was among the earliest civilizations and for millennia, Egypt maintained a strikingly complex and stable culture that influenced later cultures of Europe, the Middle East and other African countries. After the Pharaonic era, Egypt itself came under the influence of Hellenism, Christianity, and Islamic culture. Today, many aspects of Egypt's ancient culture exist in interaction with newer elements, including the influence of modern Western culture, itself with roots in ancient Egypt. The themes of childhood and nature recur in his masterpiece The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1885). In both these works Mark Twain shows his deep distrust of `respectable' society and his sympathy for social outcasts and the common man. He uses humour to criticise the practice of slavery and the hypocrisy and prejudices of his times. In his characterisations he displays a penetrating insight into human psychology. Mark Twain's use of language is also strikingly original. The stories of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn are told from the point of view of the young protagonists and contain slang, regional dialect and illogical sentence constructions that make the dialogue come to life. As a writer Twain did not emulate European models; he created a distinctly Am lit style. Many critics agree with Ernest Hemingway's claim that `all modern Am fiction comes from Huckleberry Finn'.

Metaphysical poetry Donne was a great literary innovator and is widely considered to be the founder of the metaphysical school of poetry. The features of Metaphysical poetry are: · The use of conceits (Figures of speech which draw a comparison between two strikingly different things. Metaphysical poets made wide use of conceits in which the comparison was drawn with subjects from fields such as astronomy, mathematics and geography.): comparison between the objects which at first glance seem to have nothing in common; · The argumentative quality of the love poems, in which the poet tries to persuade his lover to share his point of view; · The dramatic quality of the language, which often seems to be one side of a

Although examples of rock art exist at some 15000 sites in canyons, deserts, caves and river gorges. Nowadays, however, primitive rock art in the United States has become a new field of scientific study. Klaus F Wellmann wrote two books about rock art. He is a professor of medicine. Rock art represents the history of aboriginal Americans. In the most cases the art is an expression of ideas and way of life, ritual ceremonies, hunting, fighting. The pictures of people and animals are often strikingly lifelike and artistic. Many of these ancient relics have been destroyed by the ravages of nature and of man. Wind and water have worn away and continue to wear away, unprotected sites. And the paintings and carvings are increaslibly falling victim to vandalism: they have been painted over, spoilt with knives, even used for target practice. The American Rock Art Research Association protects rock-art sites. 2) THE FAVOURITE SPORT IN BRITAIN The most popular sport is probably football

Words based on repetition and rhyme (e.g. helter skelter, riff raff, etc.) possess humorous and / or ironic overtones. The same applies to rhyming slang, which originates from Cockney (e.g. "joy of my life wife"). The expressiveness of the distorted words is humorous and proper understanding of these words is based on the fixed context (e.g. "I beg your pudding"). The same holds true for unusual shortenings (e.g. "bacon and e.").

ESTONIAN SYMPHONIC MUSIC. THE FIRST CENTURY 1896-1996.

symphonic music such qualities were still rare. The beginnings of using new ideas can be noticed in the smaller symphonic works of Artur Kapp and Heino Eller. Kapp, in response to the communist terror he witnessed in Astrakhan, composed the symphonic prelude Hauad (Tombs, 1917). The tone poems Videvik (Twilight, 1917) and Koit (Dawn, 1920) by Eller are gripping, expressive pictures inspired by Nature. In 1913 Rudolf Tobias wrote strikingly and prophetically: Still we cannot speak of a wholly developed typical Estonian image. This is hindered by a number of factors… our own national psyche expresses itself from a leaden grey stormy sky to clear blue, slowly but intensely… Our phlegm is more philosophical apathy than lack of temperament; maybe as a healthy reaction against the pressure and drudgery that has lasted for centuries. This is connected with bitter humour and self-mockery… due to our constitution we

Pepper" Colours THE CHINESE HARLEQUIN During the 1980s, there were attempts to breed shorthaired cats with a black tail, black patches on the head and small black (or other solid colour) patches or spots on the body. Named Chinese Harlequin, it was to resemble cats found in ancient Chinese art. Although still listed by some registries, it appears to now be extinct due to the difficulty of breeding bicolours with consistent spotted markings. A similar "strikingly spotted" cat, the Gao Taem, is seen in ancient Thai art and is described as having, black marked forepaws, black and white ears, black shoulders, two black spots on the back and black shoulders. In total there should be nine horse-like black spots on an all white background. If it existed as a breed, the mutation creating these features has been lost. In all probability it was a form of Seychelles pattern. Some bicolours have black toes or paws and and some breeders have attempted to fix

nomenon, there should be some clear similarity between the victim of the highly publicized suicide and those who cause subsequent wrecks. Realizing that the clearest test of this possibility would come from the records of automobile crashes involving a single car and a lone driver, Phillips compared the age of the suicide- story victim with the ages of the lone drivers killed in single-car crashes immedi- ately after the story appeared in print. Once again the predictions were strikingly accurate: When the newspaper detailed the suicide of a young person, it was young drivers who then piled their cars into trees, poles, and embankments with fatal re- sults; but when the news story concerned an older person's suicide, older drivers died in such crashes (Phillips, 1980). This last statistic is the clincher for me. I am left wholly convinced and, simul- taneously, wholly amazed by it. Evidently, the principle of social proof is so wide-

The encipherment—if such it be—may have been only for amusement or to show off. The Holy Scriptures themselves have not escaped a touch of cryptography—or protocryptography, to be precise, for the element of secrecy is lacking. Hebrew tradition offers at least two such conversions in the Old Testament (none are recorded for the New). In Jeremiah 25:26 and 51:41, the form SHESHACH appears in place of Babel ("Babylon"). The second occurrence strikingly demonstrates the lack of a secrecy motive, since the phrase with SHESHACH is immediately followed by one using "Babylon": How is Sheshach taken! And the praise of the whole earth seized! How is Babylon become an astonishment Among the nations! Confirmation that SHESHACH is really a substitute for Babel and not a wholly separate place comes from the Septuagint and the Targums, the Aramaic paraphrases of the Bible, which simply use "Babel" where the Old Testament version has SHESHACH

might it not strike so vain a man! It might seem as if she had purposely thrown herself in his way again! Oh! why did she come? Or, why did he thus come a day before he was expected? Had they been only ten minutes sooner, they should have been beyond the reach of his discrimination; for it was plain that he was that moment arrived--that moment alighted from his horse or his carriage. She blushed again and again over the perverseness of the meeting. And his behaviour, so strikingly altered--what could it mean? That he should even speak to her was amazing!--but to speak with such civility, to inquire after her family! Never in her life had she seen his manners so little dignified, never had he spoken with such gentleness as on this unexpected meeting. What a contrast did it offer to his last address in Rosings Park, when he put his letter into her hand! She knew not what to think, or how to account for it.
