Positive sides of outdoor learning Essay  “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember.  Involve me and I learn.” Benjamin Franklin In the last few years outdoor education has become more and more popular worldwide and in  Estonia too. While there are many definitions for outdoor education, I think the best way to  describe it would be – outdoor education is a form of education, when learning takes place  somewhere else than a classroom and the subjects are not only about the environment and  nature but also linked to the national curriculum. Outdoor education often takes place on a  walk around the block, a visit to the cemetery or a local post office. It can happen at a city  zoo, on a forest trail, or in a national park. These kinds of locations are conducive to first- hand experiences and these places can provide direct contact with the topic and also learning  this way can help participants interact and socialize. Outdoor learning can contribute towards  getting deeper knowledge and understanding, better health and choices in lifestyle, valuing  friendship and teamwork and also creating an environmentally responsible society.   Students get deeper knowledge and they understand subjects better when they learn  about them directly. Outdoor education enables students to comprehend the ideas and  solutions before they get acquainted with the scientific or technical terms. Some studies  declare that students have specific learning styles and on the basis of that we can say that  outdoor learning is suitable for everyone, because it includes hearing, seeing, touching,  feeling etc. For example, learning about history, children will remember the details much  more likely, when they are presented in an authentic environment (old schoolhouse,  museums, battle fields). Outdoor education makes it possible for the students to have hands- on lessons, which gives them personal experiences, opinions and understanding that they will most likely to remember. Outdoor education creates meaningful learning experiences when  teachers help children to move beyond simple observations to more complex activities that  require higher-level thinking and collaboration with peers. Students nowadays do not spend as much time outside as the generation before them.  This situation might cause them health problems and wrong lifestyle choices. Reasons why  they are spending less and less time outside are that today we have so many indoor activities  that students are keen on and parents are too cautious, preventing accidents. Outdoor  education can improve student’s health, while taking place in fresh air and making students

physically active. The more students show their potential and skills, the more parents will  allow them to be independent. If we want to set the pattern of being active daily, we should  involve outdoor education into our curriculum on a regular basis. Students practitioning  outdoor education already in elementary school are more likely to be physically active and  enjoy outdoors in their future life too.  Outdoor education includes lots of teamwork and interaction between students,  therefore it is an excellent way to get students socializing. All students need friends in school. Sometimes it is hard for some pupils to make friends and they need help. Doing teamwork in  lessons are always a good way to get children communicating and making platforms for  further friendships. In outdoor education students have the same goals they are reaching for  and by respecting each other and working together, they can achieve them. Successfully  accomplished common tasks will give students the feeling of team spirit and understanding  that everybody is important. Outdoor education is a beneficial tool to create a sensible and aware society. Todays  increasing environmental problems obligates everyone to take responsibility. Students often  come across the phrases “recycle” or “reduction of pollution”, but not always is the  background nor the causes explained thoroughly. Students cannot develop their  environmental disposition without effective, meaningful teaching, that outdoor education  provides. Teachers can and should give students deeper knowledge about natural resources  and how exactly their deficiency will affect them personally. Direct contact is the best way to  learn. Outdoor education is necessary to encourage students to become good stewards and to  think globally but act locally regarding the environment and environmental issues. Also, outdoor education is not only important to raise environmentally responsible  citizens, but to have positive impact on student’s development. Several studies are claiming  that students who participate in outdoor education have rising trends in self-esteem, linguistic skills, motivation, concentration and better understanding of the concept. All these aspects are essential in youth development and the main reason why these traits have positive growth is  that in outdoor education many different subjects are combined and integrated. This will  make student lives and interaction with the world clearer. Some nature centers, environmental education facilities, camps, and other  organizations that focus on teaching outdoor education have started to incorporate digital  technologies into their programs in hopes of connecting today’s children to nature. I believe  that if we start teaching children outside the classroom, in every possible authentic  environment sooner, we do not have to trick them to connect with the nature later. Outdoor

education has so many good qualities to convince us to practice it. Furthermore, this method  will bring joy to students while learning, development in independence and willingness to  follow a healthy lifestyle.

concentrate, as to understand. It can help build a moral or ethical framework, and help oneself form an individual worldview. Even an untraveled child, sitting at home, can be transported by a book into any place or time. Fantasy and facts weave together, but the result is almost an unmitigated improvement. If a bookworm grows up to be antisocial or worse, it is not because of too much reading, but because something else was lacking in the education or caregiving. Hands-on learning is another factor difficult to overrate. Imagine trying to learn to draw from listening to a lecture. You must draw, draw, draw, and with time and tutoring, will improve. This is a truism, just like saying "reading is valuable." I imagine nobody complains about children spending too much time working. If anything the contrary complaint rings loudly. What I don't begin to know is the ideal breakdown, according to age, of reading, listening to instruction, and working or hands-on time.

Because not long ago I finished the high school, before that changing a lot of different schools and I think I can say that I superficially know how different schools are working in various regions of Estonia. Being a student at the faculty of education has opened my eyes for a lot of different things, perspectives and helped a lot to understand deeper, why things are like they are. We even had a subject specifically about Education policy on Estonia, Estonian learning strategy for 2020- 2035, where we had to work all that document through. That’s why almost all of my thoughts and argumentation is based on the strategy of Estonian Ministry of Education and Research. Education policy is part of national policy. In the most general sense, national education policy determines the obligation and opportunities for education in society now and in the future. (Naulainen, 2010) The role of education policy is very important in society, because

participation. With a particular interest in Wales, the following research project analyses the development of children`s active participation both in the Welsh Government and the County and Council of Swansea. Both the local and national authority has regarded the UNCRC on the basis of all its activity. One of the primary goals in both authorities is to work towards the adoption of the UNCRC in every school in Wales and Swansea as they recognise the positive impact rights based education may have upon young people`s emotional, social and academic development. The central theme of this dissertation rests on the commitment of the Cadle Primary School towards children`s right to participation as underpinned in the Article 12 of the UNCRC. The Cadle Primary School is one of the first schools in Swansea to adopt the UNCRC through the Rights Respecting School programme (RRSA). The RRSA school initiative is developed by

Art-based learning

Art-based learning We can see that art-based learning is not a regular method in school. Although I barely can understand why. It seems to me, that it is rather interesting way of learning. I also would like to point out, that childrens emotional memory is strong and pleasant things will be understood and remembered more. Therefore I would like to discribe the method thoroughly. Only in the past few hundred years has reading been the primary way of teaching religion. For centuries, religious education relied on hearing and seeing. Religious education can benefit by returning to the ages-old methods of hearing and seeing to complement reading. This method
