The Great Fire kokkuvõte

The great Fire The Great Fire of London of September 1666 was one of the moost famous incidents in Stuart England. It was the second tragedy to hit the city in the space of 12 months. The fire started in Pudding Lane. The fire started in a baker's shop owned by Thomas Farriner who was the king's baker. His maid failed to put out the ovens at the end of the night. Once it started, the fire spread quickly. The city was basically made out of wood and with September following on from the summer, the city was very dry. Strong winds fanned the flames. In 1665, during the plague, the king, Charles II, had fled in London. His plan, in 1666 (he stayed in London and took charge of the operation to save the city) was to create fire-breaks. The heat created by the fire was so great that the lead roof on the old St Paul's Cathedral melted

fortifications of the Tsarist Russia in 1836. A year before the castle had been sold to the Knighthood of Saaremaa for 3,000 roubles During 1904-1912 the convent building was renovated by architects W. Neumann and H.Seuberlich. The two upper floors of the Defence Tower were constructed anew; the window frames in the cloister of the main floor were restored and the wall between the chapel and the festive refectory rebuilt; some of the doors were relocated and windows widened; new ovens and staircases were built; stone plates with the coats-of-arms of the local noblemen were mured into wall of the cloister. In 1968 extensive restoration works were started and carried out on the basis of the plan made by K. Aluve. I recommend all to visit Kuressaare Castle, because it is a fascinating historical place for adults or children. Kristel Kiisk

of the buildings of the City authorities It is estimated that it destroyed the homes of 70,000 of the City's The death toll from the fire is unknown and is traditionally thought to have been small By the 1660s, London was by far the largest city in Britain Many buildings were made of wood - The only major stone-built area was the wealthy centre of the City. Fires were quite common in the crowded wood-built city with its open fireplaces, candles, ovens, and stores of combustibles. They had self-reliant community procedures for dealing with fires, and were usually effective . Unfortunately all that didn't help. On 5 September the Great Fire was over. Samuel Pepys's diary (23 February 1633 26 May 1703) Samuel Pepys, was an English naval administrator and Member of Parliament, who is now most famous for his diary. The detailed private diary he kept during 16601669 was first published in the nineteenth century.

Biogas – The source of future energy

Areas where biogas is used in Usage in Heating: acquired biogas is burned by a burner and the gained heat is used in houses, animal stables, greenhouses and inside the facility. Biogas stoves, hot water cauldrons or steam cauldrons are generally used in this system. The biogas purification before usage is important to eliminate corroding hydrogen sulphur (H2S) and carbon dioxide. Usage in Cooking: Biogas can be used in kitchens, as fuel for ovens and stoves using LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas). Usage in Lighting: Biogas can be used in LPG-using lamps by burning directly and also by transforming into electricity. The efficiency level is low like 3% when burning. Preparing Hot Water: We can use biogas to provide hot water at home and industrial need and also for geyser and other water heater systems. Usage in Internal Combustion Engine: Biogas can be used in vehicles as an alternative fuel to common energy sources

These two sectors include all 4 types of buildings, such as houses, offices, stores, restaurants, and places of worship. Energy used for transportation accounts for more than a quarter of all energy. Picture 2.1. Share of energy consumed by major selectors of the economy (2007) 2.1 Uses of energy in homes The ability to maintain desired temperatures is one of the most important accomplishments of modern technology. Our ovens, freezers, and homes can be kept at any temperature we choose, a luxury that wasn't possible 100 years ago. Keeping our homes comfortable uses a lot of energy. Over 40 percent of the average home's energy consumption is used for heating. Another 20 percent is used for water heating, 8 percent for cooling rooms, and 5 percent for refrigeration. Almost one-fourth of the energy used in homes is used for lighting and appliances. Lighting is essential to a modern society. Lights have
