Joseph Mallord William Turner and "The Fighting 'Temeraire'

Joseph Mallord William Turner (1775-1851) I'm going to talk a little about Joseph Mallord William Turner and his most gorgeous painting ,, The Fighting `Temeraire' tugged to her Last Berth to be broken up". Joseph Mallord William Turner was born on 23 April 1775. He was an English Romantic landscape painter, watercolourist and printmaker. He has laid the foundation for Impressionism. Turner is also one of the greatest masters of British watercolour landscape painting. He is commonly known as "the painter of light". One of his main themes was the helplessness and smallness of man against the destructive forces of nature. One of my favourite paintings is "The Fighting `Temeraire' tugged to her Last Berth to be broken up. Turner was in his sixties when he painted this painting. It shows his mastery of painting techniques to suggest sea and sky. It depicts one of the last second-rate ships of the line which played a distinguished role i...

Konrad Mägi in English

Konrad Mägi Konrad Mägi was born at Hellenurme, Tartu on November 1, 1878. He was an Estonian landscape painter and a teacher. He has also participated in the foundation of the art association and school "Pallas". He was one of the most colour-sensitive Estonian painters of the first decades of the 20th century, and Mägi's works on motives of the island of Saaremaa are the first modern Estonian nature paintings. As well as nature paintings, he also painted flowers and portraits. He always used sky in his paintings. His favourite colour was cadmium red, which is quite light and warm red tone. Mägi received his elementary art education from the drawing courses of the German Artisans' Society of Tartu. Mägi continued his art education in Saint Petersburg, where he was expelled due to his participation in revolutionary activities. Then he spent the summer on the islands of Åland in Finland and after tha...

Kubism

KUBISM Kubism on 20. sajandi kunstivool, mis hakkas kujunema Pariisis 1907. aastal Pablo Picasso ja Georges Braque'i töödes. Kubistide eelkäijaks oli Paul Cézanne. Mõiste "kubism" võttis kasutusele prantsuse kriitik Louis Vauxcelles ja see vihjab kuubist lähtuvale kujutamisele. Kriitik kirjeldas Braque'i töid 1908. aastal väljendiga bizarreries cubiques (kuubilised veidrused). Teine, hilise...

Narva Eesti Gümnaasium Uurimistöö 17. sajandi maalid: aksessuaarid Koostaja: Karina Repetun Klass: 12 Juhendaja: Tanel Mazur 2013 Narva 1 Selle uurimuse eesmärgiks oli välja otsida kõik 17.sajandist pärinevad maalid, millel oleks kujutatud erinevaid aksessuaare nagu näiteks nööbid, kaelakeed, kõrvarõngad, sõrmused jne. Otsimiseks kasutasin kõige suuremat internetipõhist entsüklopeediat Wikipedia. Olnud sisestanud otsingusse "17. sajandi kunstnikud", leidsin koheselt suure nimikirja, milles olid kunstnike nimed tähestikulises järjekorras. Otsingu tulemustest tegin sobilikest maalidest valimi, mille põhjal koostasin oma uurimistöö. Töös esinevaid kunstnikke saab eristada nende elu- ja tegutsemiskoha järgi: Holland, Saksamaa, Sotimaa, Inglismaa ja Prantsusmaa. Suurem osa antud uurimistöös esinevates...

The Great Wave off Kanagawa

The Great Wave off Kanagawa The Great Wave off Kanagawa , also known as The Great Wave or simply The Wave, is a woodblock print by theJapanese artist Hokusai. An example of ukiyo-e art, it was published sometime between 1830 and 1833[1] (during the Edo Period) as the first in Hokusai's series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji(Fugaku sanjrokkei (?)), and is his most famous work. This particular woodblock is one of the most recognized works of Japanese art in the world. It depicts an enormous wavethreatening boats near the Japanese prefecture of Kanagawa. While sometimes assumed to be a tsunami, the wave is, as the picture's title notes, more likely to be a large okinami literally "wave of the open sea." As in all the prints in the series, it depicts the area around Mount Fuji under particular conditions, and the mountain itself appears in the background. COPIES Copies of the print are in many Western collections, including the Metropolita...

American Art Revision Materials

American Art Revision Materials Colonial Period Portraiture. The first typically American paintings were illustrated maps but painting remained scarce during C17. There were 4 reasons: settlers came from backgrounds where art was unusual, Protestant attitudes was averse to imagery and painting, the English were not yet distinguished in visual arts and religious art was non-existent. The colonial period is almost entirely limited to portraiture (deemed as `useful' by settlers). These first paintings were made by limners and artisans without formal training and were based on what was popular in England during the Tudors. The paintings are technically unskilled, strongly patterned, flat and linear. Spanish painting in America was mostly religious. In C18, painting was a luxury and necessitated wealth that had by then become available. Portraitures remained at the forefront because the rich could thusly display their status and becaus...

The Renaissance

The Renaissance Between 14th and 16th century in Europe From French word rebirth It was an age of growth in Europe. New, powerful city states emerged. A new middle class had more and more money to spend. Great artists, writers and thinkers lived during this time. During the Middle Ages many people who lived in the countryside worked on the land that they got from the noblemen. In return, they were protected by them Between the middle and the end of the 14th century, the plague, also called "Black Death" killed almost half of Europe's population. It spread most rapidly in the larger cities where many people lived. This led to economic depression. When the plague slowly decreased in the 15th century, the population in Europe began to grow. A new middle class emerged --bankers, merchants and trades people had a new market for their services. People became wealthier and had more than enough money to spend. They bega...
