needed for a movement begun many decades earlier to achieve its goals. To tell the truth, the 20th century has undoubtedly been the most violently homophobic period of history: deportation to concentration camps under the Nazi regime, Soviet gulags, blackmail and persecution in the United States in the McCarthy era... Obviously, all of that can seem very distant to us now. But quite often living conditions in the world today remain very unfavorable. Homosexuality is discriminated against everywhere: in at least 80 countries, homosexual acts are forbidden by law (Algeria, Senegal, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Lebanon, Jordan, Kuwait, Puerto Rico, Nicaragua, Bosnia...); in many countries, the punishment can exceed ten years in prison (Nigeria, Libya, Syria, India, Malaysia, Jamaica...); sometimes, the law prescribes life imprisonment (Guyana, Uganda). And in a dozen countries, capital punishment may be actually carried out (Afghanistan, Iran, Saudi Arabia...)

Frederick W. Bozett kirjeldab oma raamatus ,,Homosexuality and the family" mitmeid erinevaid reaktsioone, kuidas need avalduvad ning milleni võivad need viia. Esmalt toob ta välja eitamise, mis võib küll olla lapsevanema poolne tunnistamine, kuid siiski arvatakse, et see on ajutine faas ning loodetakse, et sellest väljutakse mingi aja möödudes. Arvan, et selline olukord võib kaasa tuua hiljem suure pettumuse, kui lõpuks jõutakse selgusele, et tegemist pole pelgalt ajutise nähuga.

How has Margaret Thatcher affected Britain

How has Margaret Thatcher affected Britain

She was raised to the House of Lords by the conferment of a life peerage as Baroness Thatcher. Margaret Thatcher has affected Britain in many ways. Thatcher was committed to reducing the power of the trades unions. Several unions launched strikes in response to legislation introduced to curb their power, but these actions eventually collapsed, and gradually Thatcher's reforms reduced the power and influence of the unions. Also, though an early backer of decriminalization of male homosexuality, Thatcher, at the 1987 Conservative party conference, issued the statement that "Children who need to be taught to respect traditional moral values are being taught that they have an inalienable right to be gay". She fought for many issues to offer people better and more fair life. One of Thatcher's acts in her last half year in office was to put pressure on US President George H. W. Bush to deploy troops to the Middle East to drive Saddam Hussein's army out of Kuwait.

of Queensberry, became aware that Bosie, whose "unmanly" and careless behaviour he despised, was cavorting around London with its greatest playwright, Oscar Wilde. In 1895, days after the triumphant first night of "The Importance Of Being Earnest", Queensberry stormed into Wilde's club, The Albemarle, and finding him absent left a card with the porter, addressed "To Oscar Wilde posing Somdomite". Bosie, who hated his father, persuaded Oscar to sue the Marquess for libel. As homosexuality was itself illegal, Queensberry was able to destroy Oscar's case at the trial by calling as witnesses rent boys who would describe Wilde's sexual encounters in open court. Oscar lost the libel case against Queensberry and was arrested by the crown. With essentially no credible defence against charges of homosexual conduct, he was convicted and sentenced to two years hard labour, the latter part in Reading Gaol. Unreformed Dickensian

1.2 Seksuaalseid orientatsioone tähistavate terminite muutused ajas Seksuaalse orientatsiooniga seotud terminid on aja jooksul läbi teinud palju muutusi. Tänu raamatu populaarsusele said need mõisted seksuaalse orientatsiooni märkimisel kõige laiemalt kasutatavaks (Wikholm 1998). Kuna sõnal homoseksuaal on juures meditsiiniline varjund, siis soovitatakse tänapäeval selle asemel kasutada termineid gei või lesbi.

Margaret Thatcher

In the 1950s Margaret Thatcher trained as a lawyer, specialising in taxation. She was elected to Parliament in 1959 as Member of Parliament for Finchley, which was a constituency represented in the House of Commons. In 1961 Thatcher became the Parliamentary Secretary at the Ministry of Pensions and National Insurance. She also got the job of Conservative spokeswoman on housing and land. Thatcher was one of few Conservative Members of Parliament to support decriminalising male homosexuality, and she voted in favour of legalising abortion. When the Conservative party under Edward Heath won the 1970 general election, Thatcher became an Education Minister. During her first months of work she was forced to make a cut in the education budget and therefore she abolished universal free milk for school-children. This caused a huge protest that gave her the name of "Thatcher Thatcher, Milk Snatcher". However, she also successfully stood against the introduction of library book charges

to little public recognition, although it did win the admiration of Whitman's mentor Ralph Waldo Emerson. In his poems Whitman celebrates America, its natural beauty, its people and its spirit of democracy. He also explores himself, his feelings, perceptions and intuitions. Many contemporary readers were shocked by his celebration of the body and the theme of love between man and man which led to rumours about his homosexuality. Whitman was a highly experimental poet who believed that poetry should not be bound by rules and restrictions. He tended to avoid the use of metaphors or similes and his poetry is often strongly declarative and non-figurative. The poetry of Whitman's contemporary, Emily Dickinson (1830-1886), was even more strikingly original. Born in New England, Dickinson spent most of her life in quiet isolation detached from events of her time. Her poems are extremely personal and intimate

They trade jokes about another man who suffered an accident with similar consequences on horseback, although the story in America is that it was a bicycle accident. Bill declares that he is fonder of Jake than anyone on earth. He states that he could not make this claim in New York because he would sound like a "faggot." He makes an extended joke about how the Civil War was all about homosexuality. "Sex explains it all," he says. Bill and Jake pack a lunch and bottles of wine, and head to the river. They walk through beautiful meadows, fields, and woods, and, after a long hike, arrive at the river. They place the wine in a spring up the road in order to chill it. Jake fishes with worms, but Bill tries fly-fishing. They both catch many fish, but Bill's fish are bigger. Over their lunch, they joke about the friends they met in the war. Bill then asks Jake if he was ever in
