The Picture of Dorian Gray

Mari Tiirik, i-2 Oscar Wilde "The Picture of Dorian Gray" Basil Hallward is a taciturn and solitary artist, who finds his perfect motif in a young boy called Dorian Gray, who is the model for his oil painted masterpiece. Due to the fact that Dorian is very handsome, actually even heavenly beautiful young man, a friend of Basil, a cynical aristocrat Lord Henry Wotton (Harry) finds great intrest in Dorian. Lord Henry Wotton wants to buy the picture, and moreover, he wants to meet the boy in the picture himself. Unfortunately, Dorian is an innocent and a pure child, this is why Hallward doesn't find the idea of these two men meeting, because he is afraid that Dorian won't find his relationship with Basil intesting and exciting anymore.

earth move downward. Likewise, since they are light and airy, air and fire move upward. Each of the four elements is constantly striving to reach its natural center. The striving [ püüdlus ] of all these elements is what kept the cosmos going. In this scheme of things, the elements of air and fire predominated and together they composed a fifth element, more pure than the rest, which the ancients called "the aether."[ eeter ] And since the heavenly bodies are "up there," they must be composed of "the aether." Which brings me to relate a brief story. In 1666, and with the city of London burning down, Isaac Newton left his study at Cambridge and made his way to his mother's home at Woolsthorpe in Lincolnshire. It was here, in his mother's garden, that the great Newton was struck by an idea the idea that the force which held the planets in their orbit was the same

The Cross himself participates in Christ's sufferings and it can also participate in his glory. After the Crucifixion he is first buried and then raised up and honored (like Christ). The vision has come full circle and now the dreamer can also hope to participate, as one ordinary tree has done, in that victory. The poem ends in a mood of confidence. Now the dreamer can bear solitude and the loss of friends on earth though he sees the way open to a `heavenly home'. 3. The Gen. Charst. Of OE poetry and prose. The distinction between verse and prose is by no mean always clear in that period of time. Anglo-Saxon verse is the product of a tradition which reached far back into pre-literate times and which was challenged and eventually replaced after the Conquest by a quite different tradition, so to say Eng poetry began with an end. But by contrast, the earliest monuments

The heavy breakfast is eaten in the colder parts of Australia, while the lighter one is eaten in the warmer parts. No Australian could spend a weekend without barbeque or forget the heavenly taste of pavlova- a sweet cake with different fruits on top of it. Vegemite is the Australian national food. It is meat jelly used on sandwiches and it tastes like broth. Sport Australians love tough sports, like rugby and rally for example. Rugby is very famous in Australia. The Australian Rugby Union was created in 1892. The national team has a special anthem that is in aboriginal language. Australians also love motor sport. The Most Important Buildings in Lai Street in Tallinn

Concerned about their sailors and guests of the city, they wished to erect a lighthouse that could be seen even from the shores of Finland. On the other hand, the magistrate and the citizens wanted to use the excesses of their funds to create such an architectural masterpiece for their hometown, the likes of which could not hav been found in any other European city. Tallinn's architects of the old days probably aimed to reach the Heavenly Father or to defy the skies at least. 14 Summary The aim of the report was to find additional material about the houses on Lai Street that would be helpful for the students of Tallinna Mustamäe College while doing their guide practice exam in form eleven. In conclusion, we can say that although there is literature available on this subject, it is mostly found in the Estonian language, or written many years ago, and no longer entirely accurate

It states that resurrection will be followed by the gathering of mankind, culminating in their judgment by God. The Qur'an lists several sins that can condemn a person to hell, such as disbelief, usury and dishonesty. Muslims view paradise (jannah) as a place of joy and bliss, with Qur'anic references describing its features and the physical pleasures to come. There are also references to a greater joy--acceptance by God (ridwn). Mystical traditions in Islam place these heavenly delights in the context of an ecstatic awareness of God. 4|Page Predestination In accordance with the Islamic belief in predestination, or divine preordainment (alqad wa'l qadar), God has full knowledge and control over all that occurs. This is explained in Qur'anic verses such as "Say: 'Nothing will happen to us except what Allah has decreed for us: He is our protector'..

She was actively involved in both film adaptations, her screenplays are published in the collected dramatic writings, The Curious Room, together with her radio scripts, a libretto for an opera of Virginia Woolf's Orlando, an unproduced screenplay entitled The Christchurch Murders (based on the same true story as Peter Jackson's Heavenly Creatures) and other works. These neglected works, as well as her controversial television documentary, The Holy Family Album, are discussed in Charlotte Crofts' book, Anagrams of Desire (2003). Her novel Nights at the Circus won the 1984 James Tait Black Memorial Prize for literature. At the time of her death, Carter had started work on a sequel to Charlotte Brontë's Jane Eyre based on the later life of Jane's stepdaughter, Adèle Varens; only a synopsis survives.[3]

Stiva tells him he needs to have a certificate of confession in order to be wholly married. Levin doesn't believe in God, but he goes to see the priest anyway. He confesses that his biggest sin is doubting the existence of God. The priest then asks him how he could doubt God when he (Levin) works so intently with the land, which is God's creation. "'What doubt can you have of the Creator when you behold His creation?' the priest went on in the rapid customary jargon. 'Who has decked the heavenly firmament with its stars? Who has clothed the earth in its beauty? How could it be without the creator?' he said, looking inquiringly at Levin." Levin realizes that the priest makes some good points, but decides he still doesn't entirely believe in God. He decides it is Kitty's love which can help him find the faith he is missing. Tolstoy uses five chapters to detail the wedding, adding in bits of the vows, the prayers, the scenery, the gossip

ESTONIAN SYMPHONIC MUSIC. THE FIRST CENTURY 1896-1996.

Tobias developed into a grand master in his last period in Germany, his music abounding with ideas and vitality. Already during his Tartu years he had an intention to write an opera on the national epic Kalevipoeg. In Germany, the search for national expression became manifest in Capriccio (1909) based on the Estonian folk tune Varese sõjasõnumida (The Crow’s War Message), the ballad Sest Ilmaneitsist ilusast (The Beautiful Heavenly Maiden, 1911) and Kalevipoja epiloog (Kalevipoeg’s Epilogue, 1912) for reciter and orchestra. In Berlin he became acquainted with some prominent musicians, Ferruccio Busoni among them, who held in high esteem his piano playing, erudition in music and openness. During the last six years of his life (1912-1918), apart from a two year hiatus in the German army, he taught music theory at Königliche Hochschule für Musik (Berlin Royal College of Music)

He raised one eyebrow, and the faint trace of a smile lightened his face. I thought for a moment, wondering whether the truth or a lie would go over better. I decided to go with the truth. "Hmmm... I think you could be, if you wanted to." "Are you frightened of me now?" The smile vanished, and his heavenly face was suddenly serious. "No." But I answered too quickly. The smile returned. "So, now are you going to tell me about your family?" I asked to distract him. "It's got to be a much more interesting story than mine." He was instantly cautious. "What do you want to know?" "The Cullens adopted you?" I verified. "Yes." I hesitated for a moment. "What happened to your parents?" "They died many years ago." His tone was matter-of-fact. "I'm sorry," I mumbled.
