Film review Chocolat

She is a single mother with a young daughter. In village was the beginning of fasting and people weren’t eating so much. Vianne moves with her daughter into a disused bakery facing the church, where a man - Francis Reynaud - watches her arrival with disapproval and is suspicious. When he realizes that Vianne wants to open a chocolate shop in place of the old bakery, influencing the church-goers, Reynaud’s disapproval increases more. As it becomes clear that villagers are being influenced by Vianne, he quickly sees her as danger. Under Vianne’s control an old woman starts a new life, a wife finds courage to leave her mean husband, children rebel against authority and Reynaud’s community is danger of falling apart. Soon is Easter and Vianne and Reynaud start preparing: Vianne for a chocolate festival, Reynaud for winning back hearts of the villagers. At first, I thought this film is an uninteresting old film. However, I found out

Two holidays in the UK

Two holidays in the UK In the UK are many holidays, some are weird, some aren't. I describe two holidays, which I think are quite interesting. Bank holidays are public holidays in the United Kingdom, when banks and many other businesses are closed for the day. One bank holiday is Stiltion Cheese Rolling. Cheese Rolling has become an annual event in Stilton and every May Day hundreds of villagers and visitors make their way to the main street to watch the teams battling for the honour of being called the 'Stilton Cheese Rolling Champions'. The event is also Stilton village festival, and includes Maypole dancing, live music and other entertainment. There are side-shows, fairground rides, stalls, food and drink, and a concert in the evening. The Floral Dance always takes place on the 8th of May, except when that falls on a Sunday

Those that live there enjoy the peace of rural life and form a union to where it can be difficult for strangers to blend in. Fortunately, it wasn't much of a problem for Jerry and Joanna. They were just getting to know the town's strange members and their characters when an anonymous letter arrived, accusing the two of not being brother and sister, but lovers. The letter started a series of poison pen letters all over the village, which destroyed the safety the villagers took for granted. Right away, they knew it wasn't true and thought somebody was doing it just for laughs. The second letter went to Mrs Symmington, the local solicitor Mr Symmington's wife. It turned out the letters were no trick at all, when she committed suicide, after reading a letter that stated her last child wasn't her husband's. Her body was discovered with the letter, a glass containing potassium cyanide and a torn suicide note which read: I can't go on. Few days after, Mr

Natural disasters

Throughout time, man has fought valiantly against the forces of nature. We have successfully climbed the tallest mountains, sailed the greatest seas, and defeated the mighty dinosaurs. But we are no match for nature's greatest weapon: Natural Disasters. As far as natural disasters go, the deadly trinity of mudslides, whirlpools, and meteors is man's greatest nemesis. Mudslides strike without warning and with deadly force. Every day, across the world, unsuspecting villagers are hammered by the force of 36,000 tons of that soft wet dirt known as mud, as it cascades down mountains, rolls across plains, swoops through valleys, and takes flight over cliffs. Once the mud strikes, it leaves the villages and cities in ruins, as houses and other structures are quickly destroyed. And just as every day these villages are leveled by these disastrous attacks, the world's top scientists are working relentlessly to come out with a

I ran to the forest. There were also everything wrong. The trees were black and their leaves were brown and white, instead of green. I wasn’t able to understand anything. I saw things that could not be possible and thing that I had never seen before. I got out of the woods. I reached the town gates. They were locked. I was very confused and the best idea that came to my head was to climb over the gate. And so I did. I got safely to the other side of the gate. All of the villagers were outside. There was also my friend in front of the restaurant. Something was wrong with him too. He was scared and frightened. His hands were sweating and he had pale look on his face, like he had seen something creepy. „What’s going on? Why’s everyone outside? Why is the rainbow so different?“ I asked him. My friend didn’t answer. Suddenly I heard something strange. The city gates opened and an army of monsters came in. They were all dressed in black. They had

She basically wants to be someone, populaar and admired. She really gets the chance t omake use of her talent when her grandmother comes to visit. Meena makes up a story that her grandmother speaks several languages. Meena explains that her grandmother makes money by looking for gold. The villagers are amazed, but they buy the story which seems, to their preconceived understanding of Indian people, to be highly likely. It is much easier for Europeans to address social questions related to far away places, than to stare at the problems in our own backyard. This seems to be one of the reasons why racism is such a issue. Meena's family experiences that they are accepted when they recognize the particular role given

Palm oil

With plantations systematically destroying the rainforest, land that the local people depend on, communities are continuously finding themselves with no choice but to become plantation workers. Faced with poor and degrading working conditions, they often earn barely enough income to survive and support their families. Instead of being able to sustain themselves, indigenous communities become reliant on the success of the palm oil industry for their income and survival, leaving these villagers incredibly vulnerable to the world market price of palm oil which they have no control over. You may not realize it, but palm oil is everywhere. Demand for this inexpensive, versatile vegetable oil has skyrocketed in recent years, and it can be found in thousands of common consumer products, from cookies to toothpaste. While it may be cheap in economic terms, however, palm oil carries a high environmental price tag. The good news is that palm

Anglo-Saxons introduced a heavier plough, it required 6-8 oxen to pull it. That's why the arable land was divided into 2 or sometimed 3 fields. The fields into long thin strips. The strips were scattered over the field, so everybody had strips on both good & bad land. In the field all strip-owners had to grow the same crop. The common crops were wheat, rye, oats & barley. They also grew peas, beans & lentils. Each family had a number of strips, oxen were shared, so the villagers worked more closely together. They had no fertilizers. The method they used is known as forced rotation of crops. The following year the field lay in fallow. The piece of land not cultivated was called waste land. The pastures & meadows were common. Besides tilling the soil, the Anglo-Saxons were also occupied with cattle-breeding, hunting & fishing. The peasants of the village formed a community. The Anglo-Saxons had Trial by Ordeal. In the 7-9th cent. the situation started to change

Such teaching led men usually both to worship & also look down on women. Marriage was usually the single most important event in the lives of men & women, but the decision itself was made by the family, not the couple themselves. Once married, a woman had to accept her husband children, preferably sons. The wife of a noble had other responsibilities. When her lord was away, she was in charge of the manor & the village lands, the servants & villagers, the harvest & animals. She had to defend the manor when attacked, to run the household, welcome visitors, store enough food for winter, was expected to have knowledge of herbs & plants to make medicine, visit the poor & the sick etc. She had little time for her own children who were often sent away at the age of 8, the boys to ,,be made into men". The peasant women were busy making food, cloth, clothes, worked in the fields, looked after children, geese, pigs,
