and were formed separately from other land masses as a result of volcanic eruptions. The Galapagos were discovered in 1535 by Fray Toms de Berlanga, the Bishop of Panama. He was sailing from Panama to Peru when he accidentally discovered the islands. Islands became a favorite hideout for Pirates and the favorite location for whale hunters. After whales were locally cleared the whalers went there for tortoises, an estimated 200 000 or more adults had been removed. The island of Floreana was populated with a group of convicts' in October 1832. Charls Darwin visited the island in 1835, he spent there 5 weeks. Nowadays five of the islands are populated with about 40 000 inhabitants. The name Island of Galapagos means island of tortoises. Every animal or plant had to cross about 1000 km of open ocean to arrive on Galapagos. Despite the trials of arrival, over 560 species of native plants, over 55 species of native land vertebrates and 1700 species of native insect are found on Galapagos

It includes six states: New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland and West Virginia. The South is economically, historically and culturally a distinct region. With its warm climate and rich soil, it developed an economy based on cotton export. Conflicts between the North and the South, especially over slavery, led to the Civil War in 1861. The South preserves its traditions, for example good cooking and a slower, more hospitable way of life. The South includes eleven states.

Litter is a problem throughout the country, particularly in urban areas and in the more populated areas of Kiev, Kharkov, Donetsk and others. People litter on the banks of the rivers, in parks, in the streets. A lack of bins is not a major factor in littering. Sometimes you can see the bin in the street, and a pile of litter half a meter away from it. The main reason of littering is behaviour. The more litter people see on the street the more inclined to litter. For example, cinema complexes, football ground and theatres are cleaned up but such areas as parks and streets are neglected

In the Canada 2006 Census, the city had a population of 988,193[2] and the CMA had a population of 1,079,310.[3] As of the 2009 civic census, Calgary's population was 1,065,455 and the CMA had a population of 1,182,446.[4] Greater Calgary is estimated to be the fourth largest metropolitan in the country after Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver according to Statistics Canada's estimate surpassing Ottawa in 2009.[5] Located 300 km (200 mi) due south of Edmonton, statisticians define the narrow populated area between these cities as the "Calgary-Edmonton Corridor."[6] Calgary is the largest Canadian metropolitan area between Toronto and Vancouver. Calgary is well-known as a destination for winter sports and ecotourism with a number of major mountain resorts near the city and metropolitan area. Economic activity in Calgary is mostly centred on the petroleum industry; however, agriculture, tourism, and high-tech industries also contribute to the city's economic growth

While it is a large predator, it is not always the dominant species in its range, as when it competes for prey with animals such as the gray wolf, black bear, and the grizzly bear. It is a reclusive cat and usually avoids people. Attacks on humans remain rare, despite a recent increase in frequency. Most attacks are in states where hunting is not allowed, and they have lost their fear of humans. In these areas the cougars are often times over populated and have decimated their primary food source, deer.

houses. Some people find even more temporary shelter in hostels for the homeless. Some just live on the streets. In many cases, the homeless are those with personal problems which make it difficult for them to settle down. In some cases, they are peple who simply dont want to settle down. The future More an more people want to live on their own or in small families. Millions of new homes will need to be built in the next decade or so. The problem is not just that Britain is a densely populated country. Housing takes up an awful lot of space and eats up too much countryside. A "green points" system has been drawn up, whereby developers can obtain planning permission only if they achieve a certain score. In this century, almost half of the new homes built have been flats. The question is whether enough people in Britain will accept this more communal, less private, lifestyle. Thank you for listening

The landscape of New Zealand is very popular with making movies and TV- shows - for example the trilogy of "Lord of the Rings" and "The Last Samurai" are filmed there. The climate is temperate all over the country. The temperature rarely goes under 0°C or over 30° in populated areas. The weather on the west coast is moist and cool. In the Mackenzie hollow it turns drier and on the North-Auckland peninsula the climatic zone is almost tropical. The highest temperature in New Zealand taken is 42.2 °C and the lowest -21.6 °C. The driest city in New Zealand is on the South Island and it's named Christchurch. The rainfall in Christchurch is only 640mm per year, but in Auckland - which is the wettest city - it rains twice as much.

The lighthouse marks the Hiiu sandbank and warns ships away from the shoreline. The height of the building itself is 36 metres, and the light is 102.6 metres above sea level, making it the highest coastal light on the Baltic Sea. 10. Kaali crater The meteorite crater field in Kaali, Saaremaa, is the rarest natural monument in Estonia as well as the most impressive crater field of the whole Eurasia. The Kaali meteorite was the last giant meteorite that fell in a densely populated region of the world. Its fall on the inhabited island of Saaremaa evidently caused extensive damage and possibly also numerous victims, it has been compared with an explosion of a small nuclear bomb. The fall of the meteorite was historically remarkable as an event and for its influences on human culture. 6

In all, he wrote twenty-five books, including sixteen novels, six non-fiction books and several collections of short stories. In 1962 Steinbeck received the Nobel Prize for Literature. In his subsequent novels, Steinbeck found a more authentic voice by drawing upon direct memories of his life in California. Later he used real historical conditions and events in the first half of 20th century America, which he had experienced first-hand as a reporter. Steinbeck often populated his stories with struggling characters; his works examined the lives of the working class and migrant workers during the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression. His later body of work reflected his wide range of interests, including marine biology, politics, religion, history, and mythology. One of his last published works was Travels with Charley, a travelogue of a road trip he took in 1960 to rediscover America. He died in 1968 in New York of a heart attack and his ashes are interred in Salinas.

This region, which includes Ontario and Quebec, is not really the geographic centre of Canada. The region gets its name because, historically, it has been the centre of political and economic power in the country. Canada's capital city is Ottawa, Ontario. Central Canada is also the most heavily populated and industrialized area of Canada, particularly in the south around the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River. The Great Lakes are the largest body of fresh water in the world. In order of size they include Lake Superior, Lake Michigan, Lake Huron, Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. Some of the first settlements were built along the St. Lawrence River and the Great Lakes. Today, these waterways are still an important transportation route to Canada's interior. Though heavily populated, the Great Lakes-St
