It can be believed that they go forth to plunder, and it is granted to them to do so, so that they greatly prejudice my honor and do very great damage to the enterprise. It is well to give to God that which is His due and to Caesar that which belongs to him. This is a just sentiment and based on justice. The lands which here obey Your Highnesses are more extensive and richer than all other Christian lands. After I, by the divine will, had placed them under your royal and exalted lordship, and was on the point of securing a very great revenue, suddenly, while l was waiting for ships to come to your high presence with victory and with great news of gold, being very secure and joyful, I was made a prisoner and with my two brothers was thrown into a ship, laden with fetters, stripped to the skin, very ill-treated, and without being tried or condemned. that became known as the Domesday Book, which provided information for William's tax officers. It so reminded people of the paintings of the Day of Judgement, or `doom', on the walls of their churches that they called it the Domesday Book. The Domesday Book still exists, and gives us an extraordinary amount of information about England at this time. William's policies cost English many of their liberties, but brought them peace and order. To understand the idea of kingship and lordship in the early Middle Ages it is important to realise that at this time there was little or no idea of nationalism. William controlled two large areas: Normandy, which he had been given by his father, and England, which he had won in war. Both were personal possessions, and it did not matter to the rulers that the ordinary people of one place were English while those of another were French. To William the important difference between Normandy and England was that as duke of Normandy

Dante La Vita Nuova algab naise vaatest. So long a time has Love kept me a slave And in his lordship fully seasoned me That even though at first I felt him harsh, Now tender is his power in my heart. But when he takes my strength away from me So that my spirits seem to run away, My fainting soul then feels overcome1 And my face is drained of all its colour, For in me Love is working up such power He makes my spirits rant and wander of That rushing out they call1 My Lady, begging her to grant me grace. This happens every time she sees me and I am humbled more than you'll believe.

Character analysis Lord Emsworth: Quotes: 1) "Beach," said Lord Emsworth. "M'lord?" "I've been swindled. This dashed thing doesn't work." "Your lordship cannot see clearly?" "I can't see at all, dash it. It's all black." The butler was an observant man. "Perhaps if I were to remove the cap at the extremity of the instrument, m'lord, more satisfactory results might be obtained." "Eh? Cap? Is there a cap? So there is. Take it off, Beach." "Very good, m'lord." "Ah!" 2) "It's Aggie. My wife, you know." "Well?" "She's left me." "Left you!" "Absolutely flat." 3) "Why did you let him go

Llywelyn was killed & in 1284 he united Wales with England. Split Wales into 6 counties, encouraged English settlers to go there. In 1301 gave his own baby son Edward (later Edward II) the title of Prince of Wales. From that time the eldest son of the ruling king or queen has been made Prince of Wales. Ireland had been conquered by Norman lords in 1169. Henry II was afraid his lords might become too independent & went to Ireland himself. He forced the Irish chiefs & Norman lords to accept his lordship. He made Dublin the capital of his new colony. He took money & men for his wars. The Norman nobles & Irist chiefs quietly avoided English authority. As a result the English crown only controlled Dublin & a small area around it, known as the ,,Pale". The Anglo-Irish lords built strong castles, some became ,,more Irish than the Irish". The Irish chiefs continued to live as they always had done, moving from place to place & eating out of doors, a habit they only gave up in the 16th cent.
