Discuss the representation of the generation of fathers in Turgenev’s novel “Fathers and Sons”

typical Turgenev's literary tools; he presents his `fathers' with a radically different generation of `nihilists' and from this contrast, the main critique and description of the very generation of Turgenev himself arises. Freeborn (1960:99) comments that radicalism/nihilism (Turgenev used radicalism) aimed to "to present as objectively as possible the ideological and class antagonisms existing between the fathers and the sons in that crucial year on 1859 when the two wings of the intelligentsia were in open disagreement". 1 From the beginning of the novel, Turgenev allows the reader to unveil the similarities and differences between the generations by portraying their interactions, moods, thoughts and eby their manners of speaking. At the beginning, as Nikolai is waiting for his son, some of the qualities of the fathers' generation are displayed. The lengthy description of Nikolai's bibliography associates him with the gentry

Blandings Castle kokkuvõte

Best known today for the Jeeves and Blandings Castle novels and short stories, Wodehouse was also a talented playwright and lyricist who was part author and writer of fifteen plays and of 250 lyrics for some thirty musical comedies. Wodehouse took a modest attitude to his own works. In Over Seventy (1957) he wrote: "I go in for what is known in the trade as 'light writing' and those who do that humorists they are sometimes called are looked down upon by the intelligentsia and sneered at." Wodehouse's characters are often eccentric, with peculiar attachments, such as to newts (Gussie Fink-Nottle) or socks (Archibald Mulliner). His "mentally negligible" good-natured characters invariably make their lot worse by their half-witted (if that) schemes to improve a bad situation. Wodehouse's aristocrats, however, embody many of the comic attributes that characterize buffoons created by a genius. In many cases the classic eccentricities of

Petrogradi Nõukogu häälekandja Izvestija hoiatas ette, et bolsevikud on võtnud võimu ainult Petrogradis mitte tervel Venemaal ning hoiatas kodusõja eest. political activity and growing pluralism. The whole of society was greatly enlivened by the emergence of a new generation of Estonian politicians. In 1904, the Estonians achieved their first major political breakthrough: at the Tallinn municipal elections, the Estonian-Russian bloc gained a majority, defeating the Germans who had so far remained in power unchallenged. A characteristically Western modern social structure gained ground; the Estonian academic intelligentsia and workers employed in big industries grew in number. The general educational and cultural level of the population steadily rose, prosperity increased, and the whole standard of living improved. Newspapers played an essential part in the 11 | P a g e Estonians' social and political awareness; societies and associations were also of immense importance -- in 1905, there were more than 500 in Estonia.

ESTONIAN SYMPHONIC MUSIC. THE FIRST CENTURY 1896-1996.

The first choirs and later brass bands were organised in rural areas during the 1820s and 30s. Singing and instrumental playing were included in the curriculum of parish schools by the second quarter of the century. By the end of the century, due to these schools teaching in the mother tongue, the majority of Estonians had attained full literacy. This education programme would become the foundation for the progress of a nascent national culture and the development of a young Estonian intelligentsia. Improvements in the economic capacity of the peasantry on the one hand and the continuation of the education programme on the other soon bore the first fruit. The period between 1860 and 1885 is generally known in Estonian history as the Era of National Awakening: the emergence of national self-consciousness without political independence. The elevation of educational and cultural life, the organisation of communal and political activity became the main national aims

THE CAPITALIST NIGER

The saddest part is that we have to be taught African history through the eyes of the Caucasian. But thanks to Africa’s children who were sold into slavery, the history of Africa has started to be known through our own eyes. The tenets of a Capitalist Nigger is a love of money and what money can do to uplift the masses and not terrorize them or steal the blind. The African elite has been a total failure; they cannot raise their heads in the community of scholars or the intelligentsia. They want to continue to sit at the head of the totem pole, being spoon-fed, rather than at the head of the battle line leading the masses if Black people throughout the world. That they have not been able to understand that the total Black race is under economic slavery is a testament to their half-education and illiteracy. A community cannot survive when its so-called educated citizens are morally and intellectually bankrupt and decrepit
