Bungy jumping, parapenting & skydiving New Zealand is the home of bungy jumping, centred on Queenstown, though it has spread to numerous other sites, including Taupo and Hanmer Springs. The slightly less courageous can enjoy a tandem hang-glide or tandem parapenting, taking in the views of Queenstown, Nelson or Christchurch as someone else takes the controls and steers the glider or chute back to earth. For the ultimate thrill, though, there is the free-fall skydive from 3500m. Harnessed to a tandem master, the experience starts with a scenic flight, then comes the free fall at 200km per hour. Tandem skydives operate at Taupo, Nelson, Queenstown, Parakai, Bay of Islands and Wanaka. Caving & Rafting Over recent years caving, black-water (underground) rafting and abseiling trips have enabled thousands to explore the extensive cave systems that riddle both North and South Islands. The best known of these is the Waitomo Caves region, but caving may also be enjoyed in the Bay

the potential and expectation of the modern wine world. From that long history comes a wine tradition of tastes and styles with its roots in the classic "Old World" of France, Germany and Italy, but also an acute awareness of the contemporary consumer, as has been defined by wine-making in the "New World" of California and Australia. It has often been said that South African wine is in the unique position of both those wonderful worlds. It offers marketing possibilities that can be harnessed for the challenges of the new global economy. It can offer the wine-drinking world all kinds of new flavour experiences. It can also show the way to handle such sensitive issues as labour relations in the reality of the beautiful Cape winelands. Wine for the modern market In the post-apartheid era since 1994, South African wine has returned to the world with significant impact, growing from some 50-million litres exported that year to

The Cataclysmic Death of Stars

But his fascination deepened in the early 1990s, when a spacecraft called the Compton Gamma-Ray Observatory showed that gamma-ray bursts originate far beyond our galaxy. To appear as bright as they do, they had to be more energetic than anyone had imagined--far brighter than supernovas, Woosley's first love. They also needed a source of energy far beyond what any ordinary star could provide. Perhaps the cataclysmic jolt of a collapsing star could somehow be harnessed to produce gamma rays. So Woosley set out to determine how a core-collapse supernova could generate a burst. He and his collaborators, including Andrew MacFadyen of New York University, stage their explosions in computers. They start with a whopper of a star, about 40 times the mass of the sun, spinning so fast--several hundred miles a second at the equator--that it barely keeps from flying apart. Near the end of its life, unable to resist the pull of its own gravity, the core of the star

Depending on how energetic a wind site is, the wind farm may or may not be cost competitive. Even though the cost of wind power has decreased dramatically in the past 10 years, the technology requires a higher initial investment than fossil-fueled generators. The major challenge to using wind as a source of power is that the wind is intermittent and it does not always blow when electricity is needed. Wind energy cannot be stored (unless batteries are used); and not all winds can be harnessed to meet the timing of electricity demands. Good wind sites are often located in remote locations, far from cities where the electricity is needed. Wind resource development may compete with other uses for the land and those alternative uses may be more highly valued than electricity generation. Although wind power plants have relatively little impact on the environment compared to other conventional power plants, there is some concern over the noise produced by the rotor blades,

imitate. An organisational capability is a high-level routine (or collection of routines) that, together with its implementing input flows, confers upon an organisation's management a set of decision options for producing significant outputs of a particular type (Winter). Miks on võimekused olulised? Organizational capabilities (however defined) are valuable source of competitive advantage (Collis). Capabilities can be harnessed to continuously create, extend, upgrade, protect, and keep relevant the enterprise's unique asset base (Teece). Innovations, are products of a firm's combinative capabilities which allow the firm to exploit its knowledge and the unexplored potential of the technology (Kogut & Zander). Operational capabilities - The first category of capabilities are those that reflect an ability to perform the basic

Aeroionisatsioon Controlled use of negative ion emitters has proved to benefit individuals suffering from air- borne allergies of the upper respiratory tract. If properly harnessed, controlled, and utilized, ionized air may become a valuable adjunct to other established methods of treatment in a number of disease states. 14 The study of ionization of the air has engaged the thinking of many investigators for half a century, but the many contradictory statements and publications have repeatedly discouraged and disrupted work in this field

over land than over water. In the same way, the large atmospheric winds that circle the earth are created because the land near the earth's equator is heated more by the sun than the land near the North and South Poles. Picture 9.1. Wind energy Today, wind energy is mainly used to generate electricity. Wind is called a renewable energy source because the wind will blow as long as the sun shines. 9.1 The History of Wind Since ancient times, people have harnessed the winds energy. Over 5,000 years ago, the ancient Egyptians used wind to sail ships on the Nile River. Later, people built windmills to grind wheat and other grains. The earliest known windmills were in Persia (Iran). These early windmills looked like large paddle wheels. Centuries later, the people of Holland improved the basic design of the windmill. They gave it propeller-type blades, still made with sails. Holland is famous for its windmills.

In the person of Chiron, the Greeks stored many of their notions about what it means to be a Mentor. As a rule, centaurs are wild and savage creatures. Chiron was an unusually kind and peaceful one, but he still kept some of his wild horse nature. As a half m a n / h a l f animal creature, he is linked to the shamans of many cultures who dance in the skins of animals to get in touch with animal power. Chiron is the energy and intuition of wild nature, gentled and harnessed to teaching. Like the shamans, he is a bridge between humans and the higher powers of nature and the universe. M e n t o r s in stories often show that they are connected to nature or to some other world of the spirit. As a Mentor, Chiron led his heroes-in-training through the thresholds of manhood by patiendy teaching them the skills of archery, poetry, surgery, and so on. He was not always well rewarded for his efforts. H i s violence-prone pupil Hercules
