For me writing is more of a chore than an enjoyable activity. To be honest, I hate writing; essays, and assignments, even long e-mails sometimes bother me. When I sit down with my laptop to write an essay I look at the word processing screen and all I see is how much I haven't written and how much I have left to write. The task in front of me becomes more daunting and frustrating. I feel like when I write on the computer my words are chosen to simply fill a page. Handwriting provides an escape from the looming word counts and page numbers. We discussed in class how writing by hand forces you to think out your sentences and chose your words more carefully. I agree that while typing we simply type whatever comes to mind and completely. This creates less don't think through our ideas effective points and poorer results. A main problem I notice when I write essays on my laptop, is all of the distractions that come along with using the computer
even if he never uses them. A harmonica and a book about playing it Charlie thinks that everyone should have watercolours, magnetic poetry and a harmonica. A book called ´The Major of Castro Street´ Charlie hoped it means something to Patrick. Patrick could know who the presents were from because he knows that only Charlie would do a mix tape like that and he also knows what his handwriting looks like. What did Charlie get as `Secret Santa' presents? Who did he think the presents were from? Charlie got from Patrick a suit coat. Charlie thought his secret santa was Mary Elizabeth, because his first gift was a pair of socks and Charlie thought only she would give him socks. What was Charlie's final present for Patrick? The final present for Patrick was a book ´The Major of Castro Street´ What did Charlie give to Sam? How does he explain that?
The Diamond Necklace incident damaged her reputation further, although she was completely innocent in this affair.- The Diamon Necklace incident was that her husband asked jewelers to make a necklace out of diamonds to give it to woman as a thank you and respect sign, but both the woman and the husband died before the necklace was ready, so the next king offered it to Marie Antoinette, who refused, but then there was a man, who was a relative to Marie and he copied her handwriting and sent the letter to the jewelers with a saying that she wants it, but she wants to pay and get it silently so people wouldnt judge her for spending money. Last, when jewelers were tired of waiting the money and the necklace was already sent to "queen" they started to accuse queen for not paying and people didn't believe her that she never wanted it and that she had never even seen it. Although she was considered as spender, she donated lots of money in charity too and
10) "Blue Rock" is the new hot drink for winter. Favorite passage Holly broke down, sadness sweeping over her. Yet she felt relief at the same time; relief that Gerry would somehow continue to be with her for another little while. She leafed through the small white envelopes and searched through the months. It was April now. She had missed March so she delicately picked out the envelope. She opened it slowly, wanting to savour every moment. Inside was a small card with Gerry's handwriting on it. It read: Save yourself the bruises and buy a bedside lamp! PS. I love you... Her tears turned to laughter as she realized her Gerry was back! I liked it because in all those sad thoughts and feelings she had; now there was something to wait for. She didn't see any point in living without him. The letters gave her comfort and strength to go on.
into being. When Coca-Cola was invented by pharmacist John Pemberton, it was originally intended as a patent medicine. But Pemberton wasn't doing a great job in marketing, so Coca- Cola was bought out by businessman Asa Griggs Candler, whose marketing tactics led Coke to its dominance of the world. The Coca-Cola logo was created by John Pemberton's bookkeeper, Frank Mason Robinson in 1885. The typeface used was the dominant form of formal handwriting in the United States during that period. Unfortunately for Pemberton, he died two years later without realising the success of the beverage he had created. After his death, Asa Griggs Candler worked to secure rights to the business. Two years later, he managed to buy those rights for a total of $2300 and became the Company's first president. He established the Company's headquarter Candler Building, which was the first building higher than a steeple in Atlanta.

People bake heart-shaped cakes. Many couples go dining to restaurants. On Valentine's Day people give each other presents and flowers. Young people make beautiful cards and give them to friends. Needless to say, it's particularly young people who looked forward to St. Valentine's Day, hoping to receive many cards. Originally hand-made and decorated with pictures of hearts, flowers, birds and lots of lace, they are traditionally sent anonymously, even going so far as to disguise handwriting or posting in another town. The modern Valentine card is big business and shops selling greetings cards will start stocking up soon after Christmas. There is still a large market for the flowery, sentimental card, but many modern cards tend to the "cute" style and there is always a market for the humorous insult. On Valentine's Day children organize parties. They decorate dance halls with paper hearts and with red balloons. There can make photos with you're friend. Students play

51 5 Adjectives An adjective is a describing word. It tells you more about a noun. An adjective usually appears before the noun it describes. Sometimes, though, the adjective appears after the noun, later in the sentence. a smart dog an old building a busy street a dark corner a deep sea a tall basketball player a large bed It is windy. In the days that followed, the 32 ships that were to compose the force slipped, one by one, out to sea and vanished. Far from any observation, they headed north to rendezvous in a bay of barren Etoforu Island, one of the chill, desolate Kuriles north of the four main islands of Japan. Behind them the ships left their regular wireless operators to carry on an apparently routine radio traffic in their own "fists," or sending touch, which is as distinctive as handwriting. As the force was gathering, the Foreign Office, which knew only that the situation was tense and was never told in advance of the time, place, or nature of the planned attack, prepared on open-code arrangement as an emergency means of notification. Tokyo sent Circular 2353 to Washington on November 19: Regarding the broadcast of a special message in an emergency. In case of emergency (danger of cutting off our diplomatic

In comparison with the previous themes it remains somewhat dry. The Seventh Symphony is a sound picture of town life, but at the same time thoughts about countryside and its nature are present. The composer has said: Every author inevitably shapes his individual handwriting and it is impossible to break away from himself. Sure, during a longer period changes are possible. Due to my inability to change myself sufficiently, I have perhaps been too one-sided both in the means of expression and emotions. 1 In comparison with Tamberg Rääts possesses less psychological refinement and profound emotion. of the word or about someone else's understanding of the word (or a reason- able belief about somebody else's bizarre understanding of the word). But in the case of what I am calling conveyed meaning, there is no pathology; it is a perfectly normal conversational phenomenon. Suppose you ask me whether Smedley is a good philosopher, and I say: (1a) Smedley summarizes texts pretty accurately and has very nice handwriting, or, less subtly: (1b) Smedley is very good at ping pong. Clearly, what I am conveying to you is not what my sentence literally means. What my sentence means may or may not be true, but that is immaterial. What I convey is something different, that Smedley is very bad or at least not very good at philosophy. My hearer should grasp that immediately; and indeed, competent hearers do grasp such conveyed meanings without ever realizing that that is what they are doing.
I paused by the breakfast bar, my brows lifting at the massive arrangement of red roses on the counter. The fragrance was divine and I inhaled it with a deep breath. "What's this?" "They came for you about an hour ago. A Sunday delivery. Pretty and super pricey." I plucked the card off the clear plastic stake and opened it. I'm still thinking about you. Gideon "From Cross?" Cary asked. "Yes." My thumb brushed over what I assumed was his handwriting. It was bold and masculine and sexy. A romantic gesture for a guy who didn't have romance in his repertoire. I dropped the card on the counter as if it'd burned me and fetched a mug of coffee, praying caffeine would give me strength and restore my common sense. "You don't seem impressed." He lowered the volume on the football game he was watching. "He's bad news for me. He's like one giant trigger. I just need to stay away from him." Cary
The loo-table, however, did not appear. Mr. Darcy was writing, and Miss Bingley, seated near him, was watching the progress of his letter and repeatedly calling off his attention by messages to his sister. Mr. Hurst and Mr. Bingley were at piquet, and Mrs. Hurst was observing their game. Elizabeth took up some needlework, and was sufficiently amused in attending to what passed between Darcy and his companion. The perpetual commendations of the lady, either on his handwriting, or on the evenness of his lines, or on the length of his letter, with the perfect unconcern with which her praises were received, formed a curious dialogue, and was exactly in union with her opinion of each. "How delighted Miss Darcy will be to receive such a letter!" He made no answer. "You write uncommonly fast." "You are mistaken. I write rather slowly." "How many letters you must have occasion to write in the course of a year! Letters of business, too
As a commitment device, a written declaration has some great advantages. First, it provides physical evidence that an act has occurred. Once a prisoner wrote what the Chinese wanted, it was _ Chapter 3 COMMITMENT AND CONSISTENCY very difficult for him to believe that he had not done so. The opportunities to for- get or to deny to himself what he had done were not available, as they were for purely verbal statements. No; there it was in his own handwriting, an irrevocably documented act driving him to make his beliefs and his self-image consistent with what he had undeniably done. Second, a written testament can be shown to other people. Of course, that means it can be used to persuade those people. It can per- suade them to change their own attitudes in the direction of the statement. More importantly for the purpose of commitment, it can persuade them that the author genuinely believes what was written.
