market where he worked as a clown. To round out the cast, England brought in his friend Ehren McGhehey, a fellow Oregon resident and extreme stunt participator. Tremaine drafted his friend, director Spike Jonze, to get involved with the show, and together, he, Jonze, and Knoxville served as executive producers. The idea show was pitched, and the cast was initially given an offer by Saturday Night Live to perform the stunts weekly for the show, though the offer was turned down. A bidding war eventually occurred between Comedy Central and MTV, which MTV eventually won. It was then that Jackass was born. Controversy Since the first episode, Jackass frequently featured warnings and disclaimers noting that the stunts performed were dangerous and should not be imitated, and that recordings of any stunts would not be aired on MTV. Such warnings not only appeared before and after each program and after each commercial break,
3.6.Structure As the scale of the company is really miniature there is no defined structure per se. The head of the IT department who is also the product owner and, effectively, the head of the company and a chairman on board of directors presides over vast majority of large-scale IT projects the company is involved in. All other employees of IT department report to him. Interning students, if present, get attached to one of the two programmers and do their bidding and operate under their guidance and tutelage. The programmers generally have certain long-standing projects attached to them and deal with further developments and user support in their respective areas of responsibility. All the IT personnel are involved in advancing the WebMountain platform. People from other departments of the company, if bidden to perform some tasks from the realm of IT department, are reporting directly to the head of IT department, unless he places their
17 fabrication and construction of complex steel structures have emerged from a review of these industry publications. The following excerpts illustrate these themes: • Time – WSP Cantor Seinuk, an internationally recognized structural engineering firm based in New York, has been using BIM models as a basis for their bidding documents. When all steel bidders are given a 3D model of the structure, they automatically have an accurate tonnage and piece count. Moreover, at the time of the contract award, a fully developed model is already available and time is not wasted on creating a model based on 2D plans. The positive feedback from bidders has confirmed that this process expedites bidding and the creation of shop drawings.
team. 13 In the first chapter of the "BIM Handbook" (Eastman, Teicholz, Sacks, Liston 2008), the authors gave a critical assessment of existing DB and DBB contractual models and finally proposed the kind of model which would best support the implementation of BIM. The two major benefits of the DBB model are competitive bidding to achieve the lowest possible price and less political pressure when selecting a given contractor, while the benefits of using DB are the fact that the responsibility for design and construction is consolidated into a single contracting entity and the simplification of the administration of tasks for the owner (Beard et al. 2005). These benefits aside, there are disadvantages connected with DBB and DB as well, as shown in the figure below.
that it would never again enter into an auction situation." Even more instructive are the remarks of Diller's rival, Robert Wood, then president of CBS Television, who nearly lost his head and outbid his competitors at ABC and NBC: We were very rational at the start. We priced the movie out, in terms of what it could bring infor us, then allowed a certain value on top ofthatfor exploitation. But then the bidding started. ABC opened with $2 million. I came back with $2.4. ABC went $2.8. And the fever of the thing caught us. Like a guy who had lost his mind, I kept bidding. Finally, I went to $3.2; and there came a moment when I said to myself, "Good grief, if I get it, what the heck am I going to do with it?" When ABC finally topped me, my main feeling was relief. It's been very educational. (MacKenzie, 1974, p. 4)
came to the point, so little liked her going, that he told her to write to him, and almost promised to answer her letter. The farewell between herself and Mr. Wickham was perfectly friendly; on his side even more. His present pursuit could not make him forget that Elizabeth had been the first to excite and to deserve his attention, the first to listen and to pity, the first to be admired; and in his manner of bidding her adieu, wishing her every enjoyment, reminding her of what she was to expect in Lady Catherine de Bourgh, and trusting their opinion of her--their opinion of everybody--would always coincide, there was a solicitude, an interest which she felt must ever attach her to him with a most sincere regard; and she parted from him convinced that, whether married or single, he must always be her model of the amiable and pleasing.

organisatsioon rendib teiselt töötajaid, sealjuures ise nendega otsestesse lepingulistesse suhetesse astumata. Allhange on vahend, mille rakendamisel antakse teatud tööde tegemine lepingulisel alusel teisele organisatsioonile. Organisatsioonisisese värbamise vahendiks on töökohtade pakkumine ja omandamine. Töökoha pakkumine (job posting) on protseduur, mille käigus informeeritakse töötajaid vabanevates kohtadest ning töökoha omandamine (job bidding) on tehnika, mis lubab nõutava kvalifikatsiooniga töötajatel saada pakutavat tööd. 218 Töökohtade pakkumine ja omandamine peab olema igas organisatsioonis üksikasjalikult läbi mõeldud. Töötajad peavad teadma, kust saada infot ja kelle poole pakutava töökoha saamiseks pöörduda. Viimastel aastatel on kiiresti arenenud organisatsioonisisesel värbamisel ka elektrooniline ehk nn internetivärbamine. Ka Eestis on suuremates organisatsioonides loodud spetsiaalsed elektroonilised
T h e Greek hero Perseus, portrayed in the movie Clash of the Titans, must undergo many ordeals or his beloved princess Andromeda will be devoured by a sea monster. Other tales put family members in jeopardy like the father who is threatened in Beauty and the Beast, T h e hero Belle has a strong motivation to put herself in a dangerous position at the mercy of the Beast. H e r father will languish and die unless she does the Beast's bidding. T h e stakes are high and clear. Scripts often fail because the stakes simply aren't high enough. A story in which the hero will only be slightly embarrassed or inconvenienced if he fails is likely to get the " S o what?" reaction from readers. M a k e sure the stakes are high — life and death, big money, or the hero's very soul. Their three-group experiment looked like this: the rst group received $15 and was told the $15 would be taken back if they lost a subsequent auction; the second group was told they'd be given $15 if they won the auction; and the third group was a control with no incentive. The rst group routinely overbid the most. Participating economist Eric Schotter explained the results: Participating economist Eric Schotter explained the results: Economists typically attribute excessive bidding to risk aversion, or the joy of winning. What we found is that the actual cause of overbidding is a fear of losing, a completely new theory from past investigations. This is not a depressing realization. It's a useful one. Knowing that potential loss is a greater motivator than potential reward, we can set you up for success by including a tangible risk of public failure. Real weight-loss numbers support this.
