Ajalugu Sulgpallisarnaseid sportmänge on ajaloo vältel harrastatud Hiinas, Indias ja Kreekas. Tänapäeva sulgpall tekkis aga 1860. aastal Inglismaal. Esimest korda mängiti seda Beauforti hertsogi valdustes Gloucestershire's. Oma ingliskeelse nime 'badminton' sai ta hertsogi residentsi (Badminton House) järgi. Rahvusvahelise Sulgpalliföderatsiooni (International Badminton Federation; IBF) asutasid 1934. aastal 9 riiki. Tänapäeval on IBF-il 147 liiget. 3. mail 1977 peeti Malmös esimesed maailmameistrivõistlused sulgpallis. Olümpiaalaks sai sulgpall Barcelonas 1992. See on kaasa aidanud ala populaarsuse tõusule nii Aasia maades kui ka Suurbritannias ja Skandinaavias. Suur osa tänapäeva tippsulgpallureid pärineb Ida-Aasiast,
kiiremale taastumisele, vähendades seeläbi treeningutest ja võistlustest puudumiste arvu. Vigastuste vältimisele peaks jõu- ja vastupidavustreeningute sooritamisel kindlasti tähelepanu pöörama. My family has practiced many different sports. My brother started with basketball four years ago and he is still playing. My mother played basketball too but it was years ago and she has been in athletics too. My father played volleyball and he have been cycling.
