What is
it?
· New generation coming
from prosthesis
· Unlike prosthesis, bionic
limb is tied with brain and
spinal cord through sensors
Origin
· Research started in 1960
- Scientists made sure that
signals from living brain could
be fed into a computer
· Experiment in 1990s
- Group of people in Duke
University Center for
Neuroengineering
experimented with
microwires, a hair-thin
sensors
· Work in past two
decades
- Once implanted, the
sensors can detect signals
from frontal and parietal
Critical
Breakthrough
· 2011, two monkeys learned to control
virtual hand with thoughts
· This program allowed to
train animals to feel virtual
object...
...And paralyzed
humans to regain full-
body mobility
Why?
· To allow paralyzed and
disordered people preform
normal, even super-normal
tasks
· To do dangerous jobs
from safe distance
How it works?
·Artificial limbs are connected throught
micro/nano sensors with brain and
controller
· Recording cube as
main sensor
· algorithm in
controller remembers
signal types
· Limb acts according to
signals
Future of bionic limbs
· In 2014 first human with thought controlled
artificial limb may be presented in Brazil
· Artificial limbs will help people with
disorders such as parkinson's
· Robots for work controlled with
thoughts
Conclusion
· Science has reached point where bionic
limbs are not fantasy anymore
· From 2014 first bionic limbs
will be available
Thank you for attention!

Linda Morfoot, 65, of Long Beach, Calif., blind for 12 years, says she can now toss a ball into a basketball hoop, follow her nine grandchildren as they run around her living room and "see where the preacher is" in church. "For someone who's been totally blind, this is really remarkable," said Andrew P. Mariani, a program director at the National Eye Institute. "They're able to get some sort of vision." Scientists involved in the project, the artificial retina, say they have plans to develop the technology to allow people to read, write and recognize faces. Advances in technology, genetics, brain science and biology are making a goal that long seemed out of reach -- restoring sight -- more feasible. "For a long time, scientists and clinicians were very conservative, but you have to at some point get out of the laboratory and focus on getting clinical trials in actual humans," said Timothy J.

PSYCHOLOGY PART 1: CORE Biological level of analysis Outline principles that define the biological level of analysis. 1) Behavior can be innate, because it is genetically based. Evolution may play a key role in behavior. 2) Animals may be studied as a means of understanding human behavior. 3) There are biological correlates of behavior. Cognitions, emotions and behaviors are products of the anatomy and physiology of our nervous and endocrine system. Explain how principles of the biological level of analysis may be demonstrated in research. 1) Correlational studies: Study by Buss, who hypothesized that across cultures, men will prefer to marry younger women because of greater reproductive capacity and women will place greater value on a potential mate's earning potential to provide survival advantages. This evolutionary hypothesis was tested in 37 cultures by sending out questioners. 2) Twin studies (type of correlational stud

Big data in cloud

And the part below is comprised of the database and algorithms designed to process the data and send it to the appropriate user. Now, as we have those premises clear, we can finally understand and appreciate the opportunities of big data and the feasibility of it being stored within the cloud. Opportunities Academic essay (ITI0103) 2019 spring Due to the recent data revolution, new data formats and databases with unimaginable scales have arisen, and artificial intelligence including machine learning greatly benefiting from it. Artificial intelligence requires tremendous quantities of data for it to be exact, and big data is exactly that. Some game including machine learning examples are: - AlphaGo, a software developed to play the Chinese board game Go [4]. - Stockfish, an open source chess engine [5]. - Deep Blue, an older chess-playing computer which beat Kasparov [6].

Psychology – Gleitman

Psychology Gleitman Blood flow in the brain during different activities: the rate of blood flow is measured by special radiation counters that are placed at various points of the skull and that monitor radiation from mildly radioactive gas injected into the bloodstream. Blood flow pattern depends on what the patient does ( different pattern is found when person is reading aloud, yet another when he watches a moving light and so on). Ambiguous sights and sounds: The way ambiguous figures are perceived often depends on what we have seen just before. For example, if we are first shown an unambiguous figure of a rat, the ambiguous picture will be seen as a rat. If we are first exposed to an unambiguous face, we see the ambiguous figure as a face. What holds for visual patterns also holds for language. Many utterances are ambiguous. If presented out of context, they can be undestrood in several different ways. For example, ,,The mayor ordered the police to stop drink

Photographic camera

2 Photographic camera & photography (SEBA)  Photographic camera is an equipment used for taking photographs (usually consisting of a lightproof box with a lens at one end and light-sensitive film at the other)  Photography is The art or practice of taking and processing photographs. 3 Context of the creation of the camera (CARLA)  The camera has been used since before Christ. The impact in society the emergence of the camera was important and shocking because it helped us capture important moments in time that can no longer be repeated and helped a lot in the field of communication. The first models of cameras were used in the years before Christ where they were used to see closely objects. After its emergence was marked a before and after in history because thanks to this artefact can capture exact moments in which a event happened. Advancing in history have improved the types of cameras, passing cameras that took several min

Reasons why human beings are unique

Reasons why human beings are unique

"I am become death, the destroyer of worlds." So said the physicist Robert Oppenheimer, who helped to invent the atomic bomb. The two bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945 killed around 200,000 Japanese people. No other species has ever wielded such power, and no species could. The technology behind the atomic bomb only exists because of a cooperative hive mind: hundreds of scientists and engineers working together. The same unique intelligence and cooperation also underlies more positive advances, such as modern medicine. But is that all that defines us? In recent years, many traits once believed to be uniquely human, from morality to culture, have been found in the animal kingdom (see part one in this two-part series). So, what exactly makes us special? The list might be smaller than it once was, but there are some traits of ours that no other creature on Earth can match. No animal can get close to the devastation humans can cause (Credit: Thinkstock) No animal
