Nende teed läksid lahku, kuidas armastas kestis. Kuuldes teineteise surmast hiljem, surid nad mälemad kurvastusse. Nende armistice märgiks istutati puu. Trrubaduurid ülistasid sõda ja arrmastust. Sirveteese kasutati. See kõlas nagu muusika. territory. Only in November when the Red Army had beaten the Russian "Whites", it could once again press the front over to Estonian territory. The fiercest battles of the War of Independence took place in November and December 1919 on the Narva Front. The Soviet Command sent two armies (altogether 160,000 troops) against Estonia and Estonia answered with the maximum she had 85,000 men. By the end of 1919 the strength and morale of the Red Army had collapsed and Moscow agreed with armistice. It began on January 3, 1920 that is now celebrated as the Memorial Day of the Fallen. On February 2, 1920 the Tartu Peace Treaty was signed. Russia declared to give up all claims against Estonia and unconditionally recognized the independence of the Republic of Estonia. The price of victory had been 5,000 Estonian soldiers.

rebuild their city. Barbican Centre The Barbican takes its name from the ancient fortifications that used to surround the City. (A barbican is a watchtower that hangs upon a gate.) It remained an upper-class part of town for much of the 17th-century, but by Victorian times the working class had taken over. Due to its proximity to the docks, it suffered plenty of punishing raids in the Blitz German bombs demolished a third of the buildings. When the armistice came in 1945 the area north of St. Paul's resembled a square mile of rubble. The high cost of reconstruction work delayed the diggers for a decade, and it wasn't completed until 1982. The resulting wash of concrete has been much derided down the years, but the original plans were of considerable note. They planned 2,000 apartments for 6,500 people some in tower blocks over 400-foot high (the tallest in Europe at the time). They also included a Museum of London, the Guildhall School of

Within a few weeks, the final German thrusts did come, but they had run out of steam, and the French parried them. Soon the initiative passed to the Allies, bolstered by the Americans, and their powerful counterstrokes drove the German armies back and back until the Kaiser, his militaristic dreams wrecked, abdicated and fled while his generals signed the Armistice at Compiegne. The World War was ended. For Painvin, who had lost 33 pounds while simply seated at his desk, there was a long leave of convalescence. Afterwards, he engaged in an immensely successful business career, becoming president and director general of Ugine, the chemical giant of France, president of a phosphate company, vice president of a commercial credit firm, administrator of a mortgage society, honorary president of the Union of Chemical Industries
