are now collaborating more closely, with architects either supplying the geometric rulebook to consultants and contractors who then build their own three-dimensional models or, alternatively, architects providing the model and database directly to the team, hence assuming more control and risk for what happens from that point on. 1.7. Fabrication With complex buildings, the speed of 3D modeling becomes a major asset. According to Rob Schoen, director of operations for Action Steel Detailing, Inc., the increase in design- build projects, especially those involving more than 10,000 tons of steel, is creating “insane” detailing schedules – a situation where 3D is the only logical answer (Weisenberger, 2007). Difficult operations like complex end cuts of tubular steel sections – executed so laboriously 15 years ago by spline curves set out on cardboard templates that were

Traf-O-Data develops a primitive microcomputer based on Intel's 8008 microprocessor for recording automobile traffic flow on a highway. 5 1/4 inch diskettes first appear. Xerox decides to build a personal computer to be used for research. Project "Alto" begins. In 1971 Ray Tomlinson of BBN invents email program to send messages across a distributed network. In 1972 Ray Tomlinson modifies email program for ARPANET where it becomes a quick hit. The @ sign was chosen from the punctuation keys on Tomlinson's Model 33 Teletype for its "at" meaning. First computer-to-computer chat takes place at UCLA, and is repeated during ICCC, as psychotic PARRY (at Stanford) discusses its problems with the Doctor (at BBN) Two important programming concepts introduced:

Ideas radiate from the authors mind and collide with other minds, triggering new waves that return to the author. These generate further thoughts and emanations, and so it goes. T h e concepts described in The Writer's Journey have radiated and are now echoing back interesting challenges and criticisms as well as sympathetic vibrations. T h i s is my report on the waves that have washed back over me from publication of the book, and on the new waves I send back in response. In this book I described the set of concepts known as " T h e Hero's Journey," drawn from the depth psychology o f Carl G. Jung and the mythic studies o f Joseph Campbell. I tried to relate those ideas to contemporary storytelling, hoping to create a writer's guide to these valuable gifts from our innermost selves and our most distant past. I came l o o k i n g for the design principles of storytelling, but on
