Irish history

From this period on, sectarian conflict became a recurrent theme in Irish history. The overthrow, in 1613, of the Catholic majority in the Irish parliament was realised principally through the creation of numerous new boroughs, all of which were Protestant-dominated. By the end of the seventeenth century all Catholics, representing some 85% of Ireland's population then, were banned from the Irish parliament. Political power rested entirely in the hands of a British settler-colonial, and more specifically Anglican, minority while the Catholic population suffered severe political and economic privations. In 1801, this colonial parliament was abolished and Ireland became an integral part of a new United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland under the Act of Union. Catholics were still banned from sitting in that new parliament until Catholic Emancipation was attained in 1829, the principal condition of

He ruled nine years and then he died. The next monarch was George V, who ruled for 26 years and was confronted with many crises, including World War I, Ireland's fight for (and winning of) independence, women's battle to secure the vote, the General Strike of the 1920 and the Great Depression of the 1930s. During the World War I, he changed the name of the royal family, which used to be Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, to Windsor. The white settler colonies of British Empire had always enjoyed considerable self- government and in the first decade Canada, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand were all allowed to draw up their own constitutions to become dominions. The non-white colonies were not so fortunate. World War I started in 1914. It was between France, the UK and the British Empire, Russia and the US (known as "the Allies") on one side and Germany, Turkey and Austria- Hungary on the other

the largest city in Western Australia and home to threequarters of the state's residents. The city is also the fourth most populous urban area in Australia. The metropolitan area is located in the south west of the continent between the Indian Ocean and a low coastal escarpment known as the Darling Range. The central business district and suburbs of Perth are situated on the Swan River. Founded in 1829 by Captain James Stirling as the political centre of the free settler Swan River Colony, Perth has continued to serve as the seat of Government for Western Australia to the present day. Traditionally, Perth and the Swan River have usually been viewed and photographed from Kings Park, situated on a hill to the southwest of the city or from the South Perth foreshore. The historical record of the view shows clear river banks close to the city and a low skyline through to the 1960s. The temperature usually never goes under the freezing level.

Merel riikusid ringi NSVL laevad väidetavalt otsiti Poola allveelaeva.
