Mediterranean Basin

Surrounding the Mediterranean Sea, the hotspot's 2,085,292 km² also include parts of Spain, France, the Balkan states, Greece, Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia and Algeria, as well as around five thousand islands scattered around the Mediterranean Sea. West of the mainland, the hotspot includes the Macaronesian Islands of the Canaries, Madeira, the Selvages (Selvagens), the Azores, and Cape Verde. The basin's location at the intersection of two major landmasses, Eurasia and Africa, has contributed to its high diversity and spectacular scenery. The region boasts mountains as high as 4,500 meters, peninsulas, and one of the largest archipelagos in the world. The climate of the Mediterranean Basin is dominated by cool, wet winters and hot, dry summers, and rainfall ranges from as little as 100 millimeters to as much as 3,000 millimeters. Although much of the hotspot was once covered in evergreen oak forests, deciduous and conifer forests, eight thousand years of

products including honey, game meat, hides and ivory. o Ecosystem services - Rainforests play an important role in maintaining biological diversity, modulating precipitation infiltration and flooding, increasing scientific knowledge and in the spiritual well-being of humans. Boreal forests Boreal forests are also known by name Taiga. The largest areas of boreal forest are located in Russia and Canada, but also in the extreme northern continental United States, in Eurasia (most of Sweden, Finland, inland Norway), northern Kazakhstan, northern Mongolia and northern Japan. These forests are occupying about 17% of the land and make up 27% of the world's forest cover. Temperature in these forests is usually low, as the canopy allows very low sunlight to penetrate. Low penetration of light along with low temperature is responsible for limited under story.

further benefits such as improved cross-border infrastructure and strengthened institutions. Since the creation of the union, trade among the three countries has doubled. The increase has been caused mainly by post-crisis recovery, but also by reducing non-tariff barriers and to some extent by common tariffs. Benefits of regional economic integration: 1. Lower tariff and non-tariff trade barriers should increase trade and enhance consumer choice. In the case of the Eurasia Customs Union, the immediate "trade creation" effects would mainly reflect the elimination of administrative barriers as customs checks are removed from internal borders (since most trade between the member countries was already subject to zero customs duties). 2. Producers within a regional integration grouping can benefit from increased market size. Market size, in turn, is an important factor facilitating innovation, the fixed costs of
