composer Arvo Pärt and “Four kings” (“Neli kuningat”) marking the place where four Estonian kings were executed before the historic Jüriöö riot. • A traditional limestone festival takes place every other year in Paide, attracting different sculptors and artists and enriching Paide with new limestone sculptures. Thanks to its unique location, Paide has always been a popular choice for large fairs and festivals. This is a tradition cherished through centuries, right up to modern times, so when you are planning a trip to Paide, try to combine it with the Jürilaat, fair of the Masters, the Kreisilinna fair, the Christmas fair or The Winds of Times festival. Visit a fair or festival and if you are lucky, you will meet the “four kings” in person: each year, Paide selects four kings from among its inhabitants to keep the legend of the four Estonian born kings alive.  Never Let Me Go (2005)  The Buried Giant (2015) The Remains of the Day (1989)  It is a story about an English butler who has dedicated his life to the loyal service of Lord Darlington. The novel begins with Stevens receiving a letter from a former colleague, Miss Kenton, describing her married life, which he believes hints at an unhappy marriage. The receipt of the letter coincides with Stevens having the opportunity to revisit this once-cherished relationship, if only under the guise of investigating the possibility of re-employment. Stevens's new employer is a wealthy American named Mr Farraday.  As the book progresses, increasing evidence of love between Stevens and Miss Kenton, is revealed. Unfortunately they fail to admit their true feelings towards each other. At the end of the novel, Stevens instead focuses on his future service with Mr Farraday. A Pale View of Hills

plays and writings. Oscar Wilde was born on 16th October 1854 in Dublin, Ireland. His parents were well known and attracted a degree of gossip for their extravagant lifestyles. Oscar Wilde proved to be a student of great talent. He was awarded a scholarship to Trinity College Dublin. Here he studied the classics, in particular developing an interest in the Greek philosophers and the Hellenistic view of life. He also really cherished his youth, which probably was the inspiration for the book The picture of Dorian Gray. "To get back my youth I would do anything in the world, except take exercise, get up early or be respectable." - Oscar Wilde The picture of Dorian Gray This book talks about a young man called Dorian Gray, who doesn't age. Instead a portrait, which is painted of him shows all the changes Dorian is going trough. That is

Blandings Castle kokkuvõte

Blandings Castle by P.G. Wodehouse Wodehouse was an acknowledged master of English prose admired both by contemporaries and by modern writers. He has been called "English literature's performing flea", a derogatory description that Wodehouse cherished and adopted as the title of his autobiography. Best known today for the Jeeves and Blandings Castle novels and short stories, Wodehouse was also a talented playwright and lyricist who was part author and writer of fifteen plays and of 250 lyrics for some thirty musical comedies. Wodehouse took a modest attitude to his own works. In Over Seventy (1957) he wrote: "I go in for what is known in the trade as 'light writing' and those who do that

INDEPENDENCE Czechs had no interest in fighting for their Austrian masters in WWI, and neighbouring Slovaks felt the same about their Hungarian rulers. Many defected to renegade legions fighting against the Germans and Austrians. Meanwhile Tomás Garrigue Masaryk, Edvard Benes and the Slovak Milan Stefánik began to argue the case - especially in the USA with President Wilson - for the Czechs' and Slovaks' long-cherished dream of independence. Wilson's interest was in keeping with his own goal of closer ties with Europe under the aegis of the League of Nations (the unsuccessful precursor 9 to the United Nations). The most workable solution appeared to be a single federal state of two equal republics, and this was spelled out in agreements signed in Cleveland in 1915 and then in Pittsburgh in 1918.

His death is imminent. Levin grows depressed and takes comfort in the fact that maybe his work can save him from death. "Levin said what he had genuinely been thinking of late. He saw nothing but death or the advance toward death in everything. But his cherished scheme only engrossed him all the more. Life had to be got through somehow till death did come. Darkness had fallen, upon everything for him; but just because of this darkness he felt that the one guiding clue in the darkness was his work, and he clutched it and clung to it with all his strength." In this way, work is life itself for Levin. Part 4, Chapters 1-15 These are the chapters where Vronsky and Karenin finally come eye to eye, both knowing what they know

insensibility she instantly resolved to be false; and his account of the real, the worst objections to the match, made her too angry to have any wish of doing him justice. He expressed no regret for what he had done which satisfied her; his style was not penitent, but haughty. It was all pride and insolence. But when this subject was succeeded by his account of Mr. Wickham--when she read with somewhat clearer attention a relation of events which, if true, must overthrow every cherished opinion of his worth, and which bore so alarming an affinity to his own history of himself--her feelings were yet more acutely painful and more difficult of definition. Astonishment, apprehension, and even horror, oppressed her. She wished to discredit it entirely, repeatedly exclaiming, "This must be false! This cannot be! This must be the grossest falsehood!"--and when she had gone through the whole letter, though scarcely

1 Its manifesto called for reforms from the tsarist regime and for limited autonomy for Estonia. (1866-1942), opened their studios in Tallinn and Tartu. Both are regarded as the founders of national art life. Impressionism had exerted an influence on the works of Konrad Mägi (1878-1925) and Paul Burman (1888-1934), their works express the richness of colour in nature. Exhibitions were organised, Estonian folk art was cherished and collected into the archive of Eesti Rahva Muuseum (Estonian National Museum) founded in 1909 for research and popularisation of Estonian history and culture. In spite of the lack of badly needed funds, Estonian society demonstrated its selflessness by supporting the establishment of schools, cultural societies and theatre buildings. In drama at the turn of the century several permanent amateur theatre companies were established

CHANGE YOUR THINKING CHANGE YOUR LIFE

To resist the tendency toward homeostasis, you should be willing to abandon your old ideas when someone can prove that there are newer, better ideas available. One way to escape the mental trap of homeostasis is for you to be willing to admit that you are wrong. The mark of the superior per- son, in a time of rapid change, is to always remain open to the pos- sibility that one’s most cherished ideas are incorrect. This takes tremendous courage and maturity. But it stimulates more ideas and insights. ■ WRONG DECISIONS According to the American Management Association, at least 70 percent of your decisions will turn out to be wrong in the fullness of time. This 70 percent figure is an average. Some people will be wrong even more often. But you can assume, as a rule of thumb,

Either would be better for you." Gideon cupped my face and pressed his forehead to mine. "Neither is an option. Whatever it is, we'll figure it out." I pushed up onto my toes and pressed my mouth to his. Our tongues stroked and dipped, the kiss wildly passionate. I was vaguely aware of the multitude of people milling around us, the buzz of numerous conversations, and the steady rumble of the ceaseless midtown traffic, but none of it mattered while I was sheltered by Gideon. Cherished by him. He was both tormentor and pleasurer, a man whose mood swings and volatile passions rivaled my own. "There," he whispered, running his fingertips down my cheek. "Let that go viral." "You're not listening to me, you crazy stubborn man. I have to go." "We'll ride home together after work." He backed away, holding my hand until distance pulled our fingers apart. True heroism is shown in stories when Heroes offer themselves on the altar of chance, willing to take the risk that their quest for adventure may lead to danger, loss, or death. Like soldiers who know that by enlisting they have agreed to give their lives if their country asks them to, Heroes accept the possibility of sacrifice. T h e most effective Heroes are those who experience sacrifice. T h e y may give up a loved one or friend along the way. T h e y may give up some cherished vice or eccentricity as the price of entering into a new way of life. T h e y may return some of their winnings or share what they have gained in the Special World. T h e y may return to their starting point, the tribe or village, and bring back boons, elixirs, food, or knowledge to share with the rest of the group. Great cultural Heroes like M a r t i n Luther King or Gandhi gave their lives in pursuit of their ideals. HEROISM IN O T H E R A R C H E T Y P E S
