Sherry Turkle: Connected, but alone?

Sherry Turkle: Connected, but alone? In this video about socialmedia usage the author states that people are using more and more their mobile or other devices rather than talking to people in real life. According to Sherry Turkle we have a new expression alone together. She shows a picture where three girls are hanging out in the same room but they all are in theirs mobile devices communicating to others or each other. The author claims that when people are on the internet they get to present themselves as they want to be by editing and deleteing while writing a text. I agree with the author´s view about people not wanting to communicate in real life. Alessandro Acquisti: Why privacy matters The main point of this video is that any personal information about you on the internet can be sensitive information. Based on his research what showd that if you make a random picture of a university student, the computer identyfies people in the...

and find out what makes a felon tick. What forces an individual to commit crimes against others? Are we too humane and lenient? When looking for the reasons why people commit crimes I can only say what I believe to be sure of, and it is that individuals go against laws because they choose so, as criminal behaviour is a matter of choice. Today, there are many excuses cloaked as reasons for criminal behaviour. The misguided nature of these assertions has a serious impact upon crime control strategies. The classical approach holds people to choose freely among alternatives in behaviour. In this view, the perpetrator plans his or her actions before carrying them out. The social environment in which the person is amidst of, is a key factor in causes of criminal behaviour, with weak or broken bonds to family, school, and religion being the catalyst of criminal behaviour. They may not see the benefits of adhering to conventional

If you decide you would like to stock our product, we will work with you to establish a time and day which it would be best for you to recieve the stock at your store, as we are very flexible in terms of delivery of our stock, and if you would like a working sample to test the veracity of our assertions about our product, then we can arrange a time and day to suit you for a representative to come to your store to show you the product. Thank you for taking the time to consider this proposal and I hope that this will be the start of a good business relationship. Kiisu OÜ

It should come as no surprise, then, to find that people who are inclined to one or the other camp are occasionally inclined to look upon what the other side is doing as irrelevant if not downright wasteful. How to write a Design Report

Writing Level Technical writing must communicate information clearly, effectively and succinctly. The language must not be excessive or complex and any company-specific jargon must be defined. Typically you write at an 8th grade level. This does not mean that you are dumbing down your engineering, but rather means that you are sticking to plain writing. Engineering writing is also fact-based, so be sure to back up any assertions you make using credible sources. Separating Ideas Divide your information up into small, manageable chunks and use headings to categorize the information so people can easily find it. Include only one idea in each paragraph and state that idea in the first sentence. It’s OK if the resulting paragraph is short. People would rather read several small blocks of text than one big block. Page 7 of 9

that in a discourse, where he pretends to confute the erroneous principle of man's natural freedom, he should do it by a bare supposition of Adam's authority, without offering any proof for that authority. Indeed he confidently says, that Adam had royal authority, p. 12, and 13. Absolute lordship and dominion of life and death, p. 13. An universal monarchy, p. 33. Absolute power of life and death, p. 35. He is very frequent in such assertions; but, what is strange, in all his wholePatriarcha I find not one pretence of a reason to establish this his great foundation of government; not any thing that looks like an argument, but these words: To confirm this natural right of regal power, we find in the Decalogue, that the law which enjoyns obedience to kings, is delivered in the terms, Honour thy father, as if all power were originally in the father

the parlor game; none of the players has said or asked or requested or sug- gested . . . that anything at all. There is something missing. We are playing a game, and using tokens according to a set of conventional rules, and engaging in a social practice that may not only be fun but have some larger point; it might even be in some way vital to our way of life. The things the players in these various games have done may have significance in some sense, but nobody has made any assertions or asked anything or advised anyone to do anything. Inferentialism At this point it is tempting to make some serious concession to the Referential Theory. But that would be to overlook the most recent incarnation of Sellars' Inferential Theory: Brandom (1994), a 700-page monsterpiece, which at least has the potential for evading some of the foregoing objections. Brandom develops a particular conception of "use," a normative conception accord-

expression of civil disdain accosted her: "So, Miss Eliza, I hear you are quite delighted with George Wickham! Your sister has been talking to me about him, and asking me a thousand questions; and I find that the young man quite forgot to tell you, among his other communication, that he was the son of old Wickham, the late Mr. Darcy's steward. Let me recommend you, however, as a friend, not to give implicit confidence to all his assertions; for as to Mr. Darcy's using him ill, it is perfectly false; for, on the contrary, he has always been remarkably kind to him, though George Wickham has treated Mr. Darcy in a most infamous manner. I do not know the particulars, but I know very well that Mr. Darcy is not in the least to blame, that he cannot bear to hear George Wickham mentioned, and that though my brother thought that he could not well avoid including him in his invitation to the officers, he was excessively glad to find
