The 22nd Summer Olympic Games were hosted in Moscow in 1980. As inland Moscow had no suitable venue at which to stage the sailing event this task fell to Tallinn, the capital of then Estonian SSR. Apart from the main venue for the sailing event, Pirita Yachting Centre, a lot of other sports and entertainment facilities were built during preparations for the Olympics. One of them was V. I. Lenin Palace of Culture and Sport, which was later renamed to its present name - Linnahall. A large concrete structure, architect of Linnahall is Raine Karp. There is also a monument to the centenary of the song festival (unveiled in 1969) and a stone wall carrying memorial plaques for all the festivals. Pirita Pirita is a picturesque area situated about seven kilometres away from the centre of Tallinn. There is a beautiful sandy beach stretching for two kilometres. Pirita is also a yachting centre and a place for motor-cycle races. One of its attractions is the ruin of St. Birgitta's Convent. The founder of the convent was the Bridgettine Order whose principal house was at Vadstena in Sweden. The convent was dedicated to Birgitta Gudmarsson who was canonized in 1391. The construction was started in 1407 and it was sponsored by wealthy citizens and the knighthood of the provinces of Harju and Viru as well as by some rich people of Sweden. The Winter Games feature sports practised on snow and ice, both indoors and outdoors. Many new events have been added, such as basketball, baseball and beach volleyball. The Summer Games are held in various months and last for 16 days. Sports with separate men's and women's event include archery, badminton, basketball, canoeing, cycling, fencing, gymnastics and several others. Men and women may compete in the gymnastics same team in equestrian (horse riding) sports and some yachting events. Only men compete in boxing and modern pentathlon. The host country must provide a large stadium for the opening and closing ceremonies, the athletic events and football. Many host cities build special facilities for various Olympic events. Nii mõnigi kord kaeti sein tervikuna puupaneelidega ning sellise kujunduse juurde kuuulus ka sissehitatud mööbel (sellist laadi nimetati Yachting Style.) Kuna juugendile omased esteetilised põhimõtted välistasid ühetaolisuse ja iga interjöör pidi olema kordumatu, tuli iga uue ruumi kujundamisel kogu kujundus, kaasa arvatud mööbel ja selle lisandid, sh valgustid ning ukse- ja aknakäepidemed, trepikäsipuud (söögitoa puhul ka nõud) jne kavandada iga kord uuesti..
