FELIX BAUMGARTNER Felix Baumgartner, born April 20, 1969, grew up in Salzburg, Austria where he dreamed of skydiving and flying helicopters and was inspired by astronauts on TV. He made his first skydive at age 16. After sharpening his parachute skills as a member of a Special Forces demonstration team for the Austrian military, he supported himself by repairing motorcycles before becoming a proffesional in skydiving. Eager to test the limits, Felix set a record for history's lowest BASE jump (from Rio de Janeiro's Christ the Redeemer statue), twice set world records for the highest BASE jump from a building (Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur and Taipei 101 tower), and even landed his canopy inside a cave in Croatia.

Leonardo da Vinci imagined and sketched the first parachute in the 15 th century. He didn´t invent the clock, but he did design a more accurate one, which had two separate mechanisms: one for minutes and one for hours. Leonardo da Vinci is also believed to be the inventor of scuba gear. Many of his inventions didn´t became well-known until the famous Codex Atlanticus (which is a twelve-volume, bound set of drawings and writings (in Italian language) by Leonardo da Vinci). Consider the following sets of examples: a "She dropped a stitch"; "She dropped her hem-line; "She dropped her book"; "She dropped a friend"; "She dropped her courses" (Ross 1981: 33); "She dropped her eyes" (Kittay 1987: 154). Each occurrence of "dropped" in this list means something at least slightly different (and we may add the further noun forms "letter drop," "parachute drop," and "drop of blood"). messages from isolated Russian units. One encircled group radioed that they were burning their papers and were going to shoot their last horse for food, and that this was their final message. Silence followed, and soon thereafter the Swedish cryptanalysts learned that the Finns had crushed them. Another Russian battalion sent a coded message that they were desperately short of supplies and would build three fires in a triangle to show the Red Air Force where to parachute desperately needed food and ammunition. The Swedes solved it and gave it to the Finns, who built a triangle of fires and watched with bitter satisfaction as the packages floated down into it. Swarms of Russian Air Force cryptograms were downed by the Swedish codebreakers. Many were orders to bomb Helsinki, and often these were solved before the bombers took off from airfields in Latvia and Estonia for the 20-minute flight to their target. Finnish authorities thus

Don't screw it Ready to give it a shot? If you have a phobia of swimming, you're almost there. Don't screw it up by choosing the wrong gear or the wrong pool. Some closing recommendations: 1. Gents, don't swim in board shorts. I tried this in Brazil and it's like swimming with a parachute behind you. Terrible. Get some Euro-style Speedos and streamline. Be cool on the beach and opt for efficiency in the water. 2. Get good goggles. I tried them all, from Speedo Vanquishers to Swedish swim goggles. In almost all tests, I needed to tighten the various straps every 100125 meters to prevent chlorinated water from blinding me. I now use nothing besides the much-acclaimed (and rightly so) Aqua Sphere Kaiman goggles,
