NORTHERN LIGHTS LIINA VIROLAINEN 12A CLASS KEILA KOOL NORTHERN LIGHTS Northern lights is a common name for the Aurora Borealis in the Northern Hemisphere. Where can we see the northern lights? The Northern Lights, as the name suggests, are especially related to the polar regions. They occur most frequently in a belt of radius 2500 km centered on the magnetic north pole. This so-called auroral zone extends over northern Scandinavia, Island, the southern tip of Greenland and continuing over northern Canada, Alaska and along the northern coast of Siberia. How often can you see the Northern Lights? In Troms and Finnmark, we can see the Northern Lights every other clear night, if not even more

the Norwegian way of wishing `Merry Christmas'. A unique tradition in Norway relates to the Christmas tree that Norway gifts to England every Christmas. The tree is basically an annual present to the United Kingdom, to honor the help rendered by the British people to the natives, during the Second World War. The tree is made to stand in Trafalgar Square, in the middle of London. Hundreds of people, from around the city, come to watch the gifted Christmas tree, when the lights are turned on. Read on to know more about Christmas traditions and celebrations in Norway. Christmas Celebrations In Norway While there are many customs and traditions linked to Christmas in Norway, there is one long- standing and very popular tradition that includes a little gnome Nisse, who guards the farm animals. It is believed that he plays tricks on children, if they forget to serve him a bowl of special porridge.

Never put a child in a car or booster seat in the front passenger seat or other seat with airbags. Children should generally be 12 and older when sitting in the front passenger seat.6 6 Keep your car and its accessories in good condition. Keep the tires properly inflated, the brakes adjusted, and the windshields and windows clean. Replace windshield wiper blades when they begin to streak, and all make sure all the lights are working properly. 7 7 Use your signals properly. Always use your signal, even if you think no one is there. When changing lanes on the freeway, don't signal as an afterthought or during the lane change. Signal at least a couple of seconds in advance so others know what you're going to do before you do it. (Ever notice how most of the skid marks along the highway are just before an exit ramp? - this is where you have to be the most careful.)8
MODES In its initial state, the system is functioning in Automatic mode. By turning switch 3 on the main controller, Manual mode will be enabled on both of the crossroads. At this point, each of the crosswalks can actually be toggled between Democratic mode and Main Street mode. AUTOMATIC MODE Automatic is the default mode. In this mode, the sensors are not active, and the lights switch automatically back and forth after fixed periods of time. In this release, the time periods are equal, but it is possible to give lower-priority roads a smaller time window. This mode is suited to be used in busy hours of the day. To activate Automatic mode: Put switch #3 on controller 1 into off position. DEMOCRATIC MODE Democratic is the default manual mode

Her name was Jules. She was also afraid of the quiet, and of the cold. So she always left on the lights, the TV, and stereo even when she had her I-Pod earbuds on. She took lots of very long, hot showers. She never walked anywhere, but got rides from her mom in a big SUV. She couldn't be happy unless she was using all the energy she possibly could for all the stuff around her. Her friend, Les, didn't like to use any energy at all. He walked to school, read books instead of watching TV, played the trumpet instead of Guitar Hero, and turned off the lights anytime he left a room.

The temperature is rising due to air pollution, which is caused by smoke from factories and of rising levels of CO2 . As a result, smog and soot causes health problems. Also, a big problem is deforestation. Due to the fact that it is causing destruction of the rainforest, it contaminates the water. To solve these problems, we certainly should use renewable sources of energy and we need to avoid dangerous gases. For example, we should switch off lights every time when we leave a room. Moreover, we should take public transport more often and stop using CFC's. We can solve environmental problems only if we follow certain rules. that it is causing* ; renewable energy resources*; Therefore, we*; when we leave a room*; Moreover, we should take..* and stop using CFC's* We can solve environmental problems only if we follow certain rules.

was used as a memory aid. The gifts listed in the song are hidden references to Catholic dogma. Lighting Candles: Candles are placed in windows to light the way for travelers on Christmas Eve. Today people use electric candles for safety reasons. The "light in the window" welcomes family and friends coming home for Christmas, but it also symbolizes the welcome for the Holy Family. Every window in the house is garlanded with lights. The Christmas Tree The tree is decorated with tinsel and baubles and lights and gifts are put underneath. The gifts are opened on Christmas morning, not before! Here is a nice collection of Christmas ornaments and decorations from Ireland. Gift Giving: Presents are a big thing in Ireland. One need only visit the cousins to find that nearly anything that is admired is offered. The usual politeness must be abandoned. It's acceptable to tell another that a scarf, for example, suits them,

and acting very strange. He was barking at their garage. The family at first thought it was a cat or some other small animal; the father turned his attention to the garage. The whole family then went to see what was going on, when they opened the old squeaking garage door; they saw an old lady who was sitting in a chair rocking back and forth very slowly. The father went to the car and directed the cars headlights towards the lady, they saw nothing, when he turned the lights out again, and the lady appeared. He did it again, same thing happened. The family was stunned and scared. They drove away as quickly as they could and never went back to that house. They later found out that in the 19th century there lived a happy couple, but when the husband died, wife had gone crazy.
The Golden Gate Bridge, completed after more than four years of construction at a cost of $35 million, opened to traffic on May 28, 1937 at twelve o'clock noon. One of the most interesting Golden Gate Bridge fact is that only eleven workers died during construction, a new safety record for the time. One of the bridge's safety innovations was a net suspended under the floor. This net saved the lives of 19 men during construction . There are also 128 lights installed on the bridge roadway. It makes it beautiful at night-time. The avarage crossings are about 41 million per year, counting both north- and south crossings. The Golden Gate Bridge's paint color is orange vermillion, also called international orange. Architect Irving Morrow selected the color because it blends with the bridge's setting. People say that it is a must see for anyone who visits san francisco and it is the best bridge in America. I would really love to cross that bridge
celebration of the year. This celebration lasts for 3 days. The main party in celebrated at two days on 24 th and 25th of December. The Christmas is celebrated mainly for two reasons: because of the J. Christ's birthday and the darkest time of the year. People usually celebrate Christmas at home but there are also some street parades and parties at work or school. They decorate their homes with lots of shiny, colourful and bright lights. They also get the Christmas tree, clean up their house and make or shop for presents to gift someone. During the Christmas people visit their relatives and there's a Christmas Peace all over the world that means that you have to do good things and be nice to everyone. On the Christmas Eve morning some people go to the church. On the Christmas Night they usually have dinner of pork, potatoes, some boiled cabbage and sausages. After that they go to the living room to wait for Santa
Environmental problems Many environment problems are caused by human actions. 1. Air pollution. Use public transportation instead of your own when going to work. Air pollution is also drastically reduced by conserving energy. It is the little things, like switching off fans and lights when you are not at home. Electricity causes the burning of large amounts of fossil fuels, which in turn pollute the air. Solar power is a fantastic solution. Now that solar radiation is at a climactic peak, we can reap power from the sun using solar panel systems. These range from home systems to larger scale systems powering entire communities and cities. 2. Deforestation. While individuals can rarely have a personal impact on the
We had lots of fun and we were all prepared for sleep over. We had our sleeping bags, tooth brushes and everything we needed for sleep over. But suddenly I felt really bad pain in my head, I thought it would go over with few minutes but it lasted a while so I decided to go home, it was midnight and i called my parents, they were already sleeping and I didn't have money for taxi so I went on foot. I packed everything and started walking home. For some reason street lights didn't work and therefore I didn't see anything at all, it was really scary. I decided to call my brother, I told him to meet me halfway, he agreed. I started listening to my music because I thought this would make the fear go away. Out of nowhere somebody hit me and grabbed my bag, I couldn't catch him because I was wearing heels, I panicked and called my brother saying that someone stole my bag and that mugger was running towards him, my brother told me to stay calm and go straight home

In the meanwhile Alice had made a new friend Sheila. That was the woman's name she'd met earlier. When the lights went off, Alice and Sheila went to the performers hall. If was full of people, students mostly, but some grown-ups were at present as well. "Oh, there's Mat! My brother! I must go now" said Alice and ran off. Sheila waved and went to her band the Space Dolls. Matrix was standing, not even noticing Alice. When she was close enough, she jumped and climbed onto Mat's neck, so he automatically hugged her. When he realized what he was doing he laughed

such as coal, natural gas, and oil. Gases of acid rain Sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide are the gases that form the acid rain. Our health and acid rain Acid rain effects even our health. Breathing and lung problems in people (especially those with asthma) and have been linked to acid air pollution. Some things that you can do to make acid rain less of a problem are: Only run the dishwasher and washing machine with a full load. Turn off the lights in empty rooms or when you will be away from home. Turn off the hot water tank when you will be gone for a long period of time. Don't use your air conditioner or heater as much. Install fluorescent light bulbs instead of incandescent light bulbs. Try to reduce, reuse, and recycle as often as you can. Try not to burn a fire often. When you are going to work, you could walk, ride your bike, or take a bus. Car-pool to a place with someone else.
Other sensors can provide updates on air pollution, noise and river level. There is no need to read water or electricity meters anymore. Everything will be available in real time. This solution can also save resources. Smart cities make life safer. If there is an accident, an alert goes out immediately. Thanks to remote monitoring you can follow an instant update on the situation. Drivers can receive warnings on their GPS. Traffic lights can adjust to regulate traffic flows and prevent traffic jams. Charles Montgomery found out that the most important ingredient of human happiness is social connections. So the more trusting cities are, the more happier they are. Smart cities can make life easier thanks to different solutions like smart lighting, dynamic information, environment stations, automatic watering, park assistance, connected waste containers, flow management and so on.

Simple and small ways affect the enviroment for the better Everyone can do something for the enviroment. All of us should do something, because enviroment is very important to people. Our planet is changing and we need to help it change for the better. One way how to help the enviroment is saving energy. You should switch off anything, that uses electricity. If you’re not using it, then turn it off, it’s simple. This goes for lights, televisions and so on. Also try unplugging if possible, because even when an appliance is turned off, it still may use power. You could switch your light bulbs to LED light bulbs, because these are using less energy and even last longer. If you use renewable energy sources, you won’t cause burning fossil fuels, that causes pollution. Another way how to help the enviroment would be saving water. Turn off the water, when you’re not using it
The portion of air that changes back to a gas at -245.92°C is neon. Physical properties(omadused) Neon is a colorless, odorless(lõhnatu), tasteless gas. It changes from a gas to a liquid at -245.92°C and from a liquid to a solid(tahke) at -248.6°C. Chemical properties NEON Neon is chemically inactive. So far, it has been impossible to make neon react with any other element or compound. Uses Neon has relatively few uses. The best known use of neon gas is in neon lights. Today, neon signs of every color, shape, and size exist. A neon light consists of a glass tube filled with neon or some other inert gas. The gas contained in the sign tube determines the color of light given off. The color given off by neon itself is reddish-orange. Neon lighting was invented by French chemist Georges Claude (1870-1960). Claude displayed his first neon sign at the Paris Exposition of 1910. He sold the first neon advertising sign to a Paris barber two years later.
Chapter Sixteen Epoch Unable to find something to wear to graduation thanks to the fact that her red blouse was stolen, Bella mopes around her room until Alice shows up with a new outfit. Alice makes a comment about the thief followed by a comment about the activity in Seattle. Hearing the two placed together like that makes something click in Bella's brain. She realizes that the two situations the thief in her room and the newborn vampires in Seattle are related. I hated that I had left my mobile phone to home to be in privacy, I needed it. I was tired to death of running. I was watching back all the time and eventually I didn't see him anymore but I kept running. When I reached home I thought that I was safe but I didn't dare to switch on lights. I let the street lighting shine in. I found my mobile but of course it was discharged, like always, when I needed it. Then I heard a horrifying knocking on the door. He had followed me. You may ask how we as individuals can have an impact on the environment. Our actions can help to increase the problems highlighted above. For example turning off lights that are not being used helps to reduce global warming. Until recently, concern about the environment revolved almost exclusively around local and national problems. He thought that there was something strange about the House of Shaws. He began to worry. He walked on. Soon, he saw a large house. It was the House of Shaws. The house was very old and in bad condition. There was no gate or entrance. It looked empty. It was dark when he arrived at the house and there were no lights on. He knocked once on the big wooden door. Nothing happened so he knocked again. David heard someone inside so he became angry. He started kicking the door and shouting for Mr Balfour.
