around the issue; how close the people stand to each other when they are talking--all of these and many more are rules of politeness which differ from culture to culture. Third factor is "emotional constraints." Different cultures regulate the display of emotion differently. Some cultures get very emotional when they are debating an issue. They yell, they cry, they exhibit their anger, fear, frustration, and other feelings openly. Other cultures try to keep their emotions hidden, exhibiting or sharing only the "rational" or factual aspects of the situation. All of these differences tend to lead to communication problems. If the people involved are not aware of the potential for such problems, they are even more likely to fall victim to them, although it takes more than awareness to overcome these problems and communicate effectively across cultures. In my opinion different cultures are blessing. Different cultures motivate people to learn other languages and the rules of courtesy

pool of voluntary members of RHS committees from which around 150 judges are selected for Chelsea. As might imagine, to be picked is an enormous honour, end every year the RHS brings in new judges to keep the process fresh and lively. 21 The annual Chelsea miracle of having flowers in May, which have normally see in January, June or November, needs the experience of actually exhibiting to understand how difficult (or easy) this can be. Obviously judges must look high quality, well grown, and fresh looking plants, which are carefully displayed and accurately labelled - but some others RHS criteria are more starling. The judges for example, are told to ignore the source of the plants, so that an exhibitor who bought his plants from others has same change of success as one who has cultivated everything himself. Judging of the show gardens take place from 7

Bridges presentation

Bridging rivers, gorges, narrows, straits, and valleys always has played an important role in the history of human settlement. Since ancient times, bridges have been the most visible testimony of the noble craft of engineers. A bridge can be defined in many ways, but Andrea Palladio, the great 16th century Italian architect and engineer, hit on the essence of bridge building when he said "...bridges should befit the spirit of the community by exhibiting commodiousness, firmness, and delight." In more practical terms, he went on to explain that the way to avoid having the bridge carried away by the violence of water was to make the bridge without fixing any posts in the water. Since the beginning of time, the goal of bridge builders has been to create as wide a span as possible which is commodious, firm, and occasionally delightful. Spanning greater distances is a distinct measure of engineering prowess.

society. In 1939 several exhibitions of Estonian art took place in foreign countries: 76 artists exhibited 212 works in Rome, Budapest, Warsaw, Krakow and Antwerp. A major achievement in Estonian progressive symphonism is the First Symphony (in modo Mixolydio) in 1936 by Heino Eller. This mode is, in the opinion of Eller, akin to the mood of Estonian folk tunes and by using it the composer wished to create a large-scale work with national countenance.1 Eller is exhibiting his lyric-epic manner of expression, common to his shorter works, yet here it is able to attain magnificence. As the central subject of this work, the main theme of the first movement radiates manliness. It progresses towards the grandiose: Example 36. The typical fourth-fifth relation comes to the fore also in harmony, becoming an essential “building block”. All harmonic aspects are fresh; Eller avoids the D function as much as possible

for my ears. 18. THE HUNT They emerged one by one from the forest edge, ranging a dozen meters apart. The first male into the clearing fell back immediately, allowing the other male to take the front, orienting himself around the tall, dark-haired man in a manner that clearly displayed who led the pack. The third was a woman; from this distance, all I could see of her was that her hair was a startling shade of red. They closed ranks before they continued cautiously toward Edward's family, exhibiting the natural respect of a troop of predators as it encounters a larger, unfamiliar group of its own kind. As they approached, I could see how different they were from the Cullens. Their walk was catlike, a gait that seemed constantly on the edge of shifting into a crouch. They dressed in the ordinary gear of backpackers: jeans and casual button-down shirts in heavy, weatherproof fabrics. The clothes were frayed, though, with wear, and they were barefoot

to the comforts of cold ham and chicken. Elizabeth now began to revive. But not long was the interval of tranquillity; for, when supper was over, singing was talked of, and she had the mortification of seeing Mary, after very little entreaty, preparing to oblige the company. By many significant looks and silent entreaties, did she endeavour to prevent such a proof of complaisance, but in vain; Mary would not understand them; such an opportunity of exhibiting was delightful to her, and she began her song. Elizabeth's eyes were fixed on her with most painful sensations, and she watched her progress through the several stanzas with an impatience which was very ill rewarded at their close; for Mary, on receiving, amongst the thanks of the table, the hint of a hope that she might be prevailed on to favour them again, after the pause of half a minute began another. Mary's powers were by no means
