Book report/review "The Snow Child"

blessed, even though the girl Fauna never really was their biological child. The main characters, Jack and Mable, are very humble and loving. I felt like Mable was a bit more emotional and complicated than Jack. She was very naive in a way. Jack, on the other hand, was a very masculine type. He was a hunter and had a very strong character. He was responsible for the survival. They both completed each other. In my opinion the book was very enchanting and beautiful. The way the author describes Alaska, is very magical, because she has lived there her whole life. When I was reading the book I felt like I had been to Alaska, the writer really knows how to use the right adjectives to make the reader feel the cold and dark Alaskan winter. In my view, the book achieved its goal perfectly. The author knew exactly what kind of a message she wanted to bring to the reader and I believe that she succeeded. One

Old Tallinn

Kunda Gymnasium Rait Türkel Old Tallinn Report Instructor:Teacher Kristi Aron Kunda 2012 Introduction Like most cities with an eight-hundred-year-old past, Tallinn is a patchwork of historic areas. The city's pride and joy is without a doubt its Medieval Old Town, but equally enchanting is the Kadriorg district, a throwback to the time when Estonia was ruled by the Russian Tsars. Tallinn is the capital and largest city of Estonia. It occupies an area of 159.2 km2 with a population of 416,470. It is situated on the northern coast of the country, on the shore of the Gulf of Finland, 80 km south of Helsinki, east of Stockholm and west of Saint Petersburg. Tallinn's Old Town is in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. It is ranked as a global city and has been listed among the

water was soon undrinkable due to the sacrifices. How did Kiek in de Kök get its name It is said that at the medieval times the cannon tower was so high that the warriors on top of it could see, how housewives and maids were cooking lunch in their kitchens, thus the name, meaning "peek into the kitchen". Conclusion It was very interesting to write this report, because before I wasn't aware that there are so many enchanting legends about people, buildings, sights and objects in Tallinn. Thanks to this report I have discovered some new stories that are not so famous, but yet so fascinating. One of these is the legend about the Cat's Well. I hadn't heard nothing about it before and now it's is definitely going to be a tale to tell my foreigner friends. Writing this report I have learned that almost everything in Tallinn has its own story. References http://et.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kalevipoeg_(eepos), read on 23

Estonian holidays, festivals, cultural events

Festivals and events dedicated to the consumption of beer are a lot of fun, but if you want to get the true feel of the country, you need something a little more ethnic. Like a town fair. Just as July becomes August, the seaside town of Haapsalu will host a grand spectacle of rural Estonian entertainment. The White Lady Days is a summer celebration filled with amusement for all the family. Held in and around the remains of the Teutonic-knights-era castles, the fair combines enchanting medieval legends with modern countryside charm to create a comprehensive experience of Estonia beyond the big cities. But the legend of the White Lady of Haapsalu, which is at the heart of the festival, is perhaps the most famous tall tale of the many that are so abundant in Estonia's folklore. It is the story of a poor girl who falls in love with the son of the village elder, and disguises herself as a choirboy in order to sneak into the castle

TARTUFFE (inglise keelne)

To hear such words from lips we dote upon; Their honeyed sweetness pours through all my senses Long draughts of suavity ineffable. My heart employs its utmost zeal to please you, And counts your love its one beatitude; And yet that heart must beg that you allow it To doubt a little its felicity. I well might think these words an honest trick To make me break off this approaching marriage; And if I may express myself quite plainly, I cannot trust these too enchanting words Until the granting of some little favour I sigh for, shall assure me of their truth And build within my soul, on firm foundations, A lasting faith in your sweet charity. ELMIRE (coughing to draw her husband's attention) What! Must you go so fast?--and all at once Exhaust the whole love of a woman's heart? She does herself the violence to make This dear confession of her love, and you Are not yet satisfied, and will not be Without the granting of her utmost favours? TARTUFFE

ESTONIAN SYMPHONIC MUSIC-THE FIRST CENTURY 1896-1996

doc

ESTONIAN SYMPHONIC MUSIC. THE FIRST CENTURY 1896-1996.

1 The first theme is reminiscent of a slow polka; there is no swing but a good dose of humour and rollicking: Example 78. The second theme is a lyrical waltz forming the centre of the dance. The variants of the first theme progress in unexpected harmonic transitions and varying metrics (2/4, 3/8, 3/4, 2/4, 5/8, 3/8). The alterations are evoking an archaic spirit (the lowered II and VII, the heightened IV degrees). All of this music is enchanting with its metrical plasticity. In the fifties it was a fresh phenomenon in Estonian music. The third dance is vigorous, the somewhat gloomy first theme pulsates: Example 79. The second, subsidiary theme sounds like a vivid and plastic Estonian waltz. In the development section a new theme is introduced. It sounds like restless questioning; yet it makes a central axis for further treatment. The recapitulation is oppressive.

His dazzling face was friendly, open, a slight smile on his flawless lips. But his eyes were careful. "My name is Edward Cullen," he continued. "I didn't have a chance to introduce myself last week. You must be Bella Swan." My mind was spinning with confusion. Had I made up the whole thing? He was perfectly polite now. I had to speak; he was waiting. But I couldn't think of anything conventional to say. "H-how do you know my name?" I stammered. He laughed a soft, enchanting laugh. "Oh, I think everyone knows your name. The whole town's been waiting for you to arrive." I grimaced. I knew it was something like that. "No," I persisted stupidly. "I meant, why did you call me Bella?" He seemed confused. "Do you prefer Isabella?" "No, I like Bella," I said. "But I think Charlie -- I mean my dad -- must call me Isabella behind my back -- that's what everyone here seems to know me as," I tried to explain, feeling like an utter moron. "Oh." He let it drop
