of sanitary protection is guaranteed. Georgian legislation imposes some restrictions on foreigners wishing to participate in the priva- tization of State owned agricultural land. In this case, only a Georgian citizen or company regis- tered in Georgia are entitled to purchase such land. A branch of foreign company is not consid- ered a Georgian company. Foreigners are also prevented from participating in the privatization of forests of former collec- tive and Soviet farms situated within the borders of a settled territory (artificially planted specific forests that are located within the borders of settlements and which were originally planted in order to later be cut down). Furthermore, this type of forests may be acquired only by a Georgian citizen or group of citizens residing (registered) in the respective settlement. This means that a company registered in Georgia may not acquire such property.
A typical example would be a 64 Analog Interfacing to Embedded Microprocessors safety hood that must be closed before the machine can start. The idea is that all the dangerous moving parts are under the hood, so if the hood is closed you know the operator’s hands are out of the way. You could use a slotted optical switch and a flag that blocks the light path when the hood is closed. You then connect the phototransistor emitter to ground and pull the collec- tor up with a resistor. When the flag is blocking the sensor, the transistor is off and the output is high. The problem with this approach is that an open or disconnected LED would appear the same to the system as a closed hood. The system might then try to start with the hood open. In a case like this, use a flag that unblocks the sensor when the hood is closed. A bad LED then looks like an open hood and everything is safe.
participate in a marketing survey. For the American students, the best predictor of their decision was information about how often they, themselves, had agreed to marketing survey requests in the past; this is in keeping with the primarily individualistic point of reference of most Americans. For the Pol- ish students, however, the best predictor of their decisions was information about how often their friends had agreed to marketing survey requests in the past; this is in keeping with the more collec- tivistic values of their nation (Cialdini et aI., 1999). ~ Chapter 4 SOCIAL PROOF READER'S REPORT 4.4 From a Former Racetrack Employee became aware of one method of faking social evidence to one's advantage Iwhile working at a racetrack. In order to lower the odds and make more money, some bettors are able to sway the public to bet on bad horses. Odds at a racetrack are based on where the money is being bet. The more
